Incredible creation, all around. He gave off a very comforting vibe to us fans. And I feel very lucky to be able to sit and listen to his work, any time I want.
I never realized that music companies played favorites. When Jimmy and David started the group they were suppose to share the writing duties. Somehow Jimmy got the short end of the stick. Why? Jimmy songs were just as good and I think very promotable singles!
Early on Bread's record label apparently decided that David's songs were more "commercial" then those written by James and Rob Royer and designated David as Bread's front man. They apparently weren't willing to take a chance and put one of Jimmy's songs on the A side of a single.
@@owensclock They only won an Oscar for "For All We Know'". I liked David and his songs but if you listen to all their albums you should realize that James songwriting skills were up to par with David's. The bean counters didn't hear things the way you and I did.
I wonder if the AM/FM radio split had something to do with this. Jimmy could certainly do soft, as with this and the Oscar-winning "For All We Know", but David was a true master at that, and the AM stations had no use for "Fancy Dancer" and "Mother Freedom" and perhaps the label didn't want to straddle the divide between that and the FM stations who wouldn't play "If" and "Aubrey">
when I was young... I thought David gates sang this song... Rip James (Jimmy) Griffin, mike boots and Larry knechtel... and God bless to those two... Rob royer and David gates

A wonderful ballad that brings back memories of a simpler, happier times.

Love this song. James had an awesome voice and was an excellent songwriter.
James Griffin sings this great song with such feeling. My favorite Bread song.
This is really amazing. I wonder why this is not better known? I'm thankful for finding this.
Best vocalist of Bread
Is David Gates

Graduated HS in '72. They were the bomb at that time. Tenth reunion, that's all we played. Fiftieth, none.

This beats the studio version by a mile. Should have been recorded just like this.
The ever unsung 🤔
Patrick Swayze looks like him
No comparison. Sorry.
Well, let's say that kind of reminds of Patrick a little bit.
This increíble song, was a "b" side. Bread s record company, and the band, missed a hit single.
