If anyone has any other suggestions for the can opening with a piece of paper please let us know! Perhaps we could try card? We are determined to make it work.... also our house smelt of burnt coconut hair for days after this so don't try it unless you really have to and can open many windows! You can check all the other kitchen hack attempts to date on this playlist ua-cam.com/video/jdKv_PUEL90/v-deo.html please keep the hack ideas you've found coming, some of them are genuinely amazing!
We are all so glad that you test these hacks so we don’t need to and for those that we can use thank you and for those that don’t we can just ignore. Thank you Mr and Mrs B for your consumer advice
I'd say press down hard on where the can is meant to pop open with the ring pull, sod the rubbing, it needs the pre-weakened seam breaking with pressure... :P
Is the can cold? No idea what I'm talking about but if the paper rubbing is supposed to work by creating a heat difference then maybe the can has to be fully chilled first?
That potato bit is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. Clearly authentic, you're both laughing, and a perfect punchline. I rewound it like five times. And Mrs. B catches them like a pro! So good.
I am BEYOND happy that i discovered this channel. Its been a year or two since i first came apon Barry and Mrs B and, i have not regretted a moment of it. I have watched every video on this channel 2 or 3 times. It jist makes me happy. They are such a loveable couple with amazing daughters that you cant help but be happy watching them. And i lost it watching Mrs B laugh her butt off catching the potatoes. Too funny. I cant wait to see whats next.
1: Fold the paper four times 2: Wrap the paper around an old-fashioned, lever style can opener 3: Press the rounded end of the can opener (not the pointy side) against the can lid and open the can 4: Enjoy the Coke
My grandma used to bake the whole coconut in the oven at 400 degrees F for a few minutes to get it open. She made awesome coconut cakes she used the milk inside in the cake. Also I absolutely love you and Mrs B. Thank you for being so entertaining. ❤️
The polenta one I think could be used for.lots of other things as well! Rice for example! (That would avoid you having to burn the plastic the other hack required 😬)
Whenever I buy something that's loose in a bag, like gelatin, rice, et cetera, I just use a funnel like how Barry did with the bottle, and pour it into a container. Bags might nick on something and rip, not a great storing solution. If you have funnels in your kitchen (imho a must), this "hack" is even easier because it doesn't require cutting a bottle. 🤷🏻♀️
Have you ever been in a situation where you need to chop a banana, but you don't own a knife, but you do own a fork and a pair of metal pliers? No, me neither 😂
Fold the paper until YOU CAN"T FOLD IT ANY MORE, then with a lever-like action from the middle of the can (to prevent cutting yourselves), press a corner end down on the pre-cut round drink hole. Works every time.
I'm sure the emergency services are on Mrs B's speed-dial and on stand-by for each of these 'Barry tries' videos 😂 Thank goodness emergency services are free at the point of use... The potato scene, however, is a visual representation of how I feel at the till doing my grocery shop at Aldi 😂
We are all so glad that you test these hacks so we don’t need to and for those that we can use thank you and for those that don’t work we can just ignore. Thank you Mr and Mrs B for your consumer advice
My gosh mrs. B is good at catching those potatoes! 🤣 Also the coconut hack... you can pretty easily open a coconut by first puncturing one of the holes with a screwdriver, drain the coconut water, then use a hammer to beat round the shell until it cracks enough for you to pull it apart, and finally use a spoon to get the coconut meat out.
I've snapped a few can pulls I always use a spoon and rub it on the edge to open mine hack you can always open tin can with a spoon if you don't have a tin opener
With the can opening do what u were doing but hold the paper nearer to the folded edge...you are keeping your fingers well out the way but you need them closer to the edge you are using to open it. This works...i have done it myself 👍
With the bag in the bottle neck hack, you could use an elastic band to help hold the plastic bag in place - a thick one like the ones that hold together broccoli stalks at the grocery store - that would make pouring easier and more secure! Might try that myself.
@@mrbarrylewis Update, I tried it and the rubber band worked a charm. It also helps the bag make a more open spout hole, so I put that band under the kind of flare in the bottle where the cap sits. Held it in place perfectly, no spills! Keep up the good work.
We just have a large rock outside our home where we break open the coconut. There is also a coconut opener with like a super hard substance in its center where you can hit the coconut and get it open. You get a hand held coconut grater and also a coconut "chipper", which is basically a steel rod with one end flattened to detach the coconut meat from the shell. These things are pretty readily available in India especially in the south where coconut is used in daily cooking.
Thinking of a hack, can't recall if you've already done it cos I learned it off youtube, if you are missing a tin opener, and have a tin with no ring-pull top, rub it on a flat stone surface (E.G. paving slab, brick, recently poured and cured concrete for a studio kitchen, etc.) to grind the top ridge of the rolled seam down, and then with a few gentle squeezes of the sides, the top will pop off, can also be done with sandpaper and metal files... :D
15:23 talking of old drinks, I still have a small bottle of cola in the shape of a football (unopened) manufactured as a promotional item for the 2006 FIFA Football World Cup in Germany and it’s still pretty fizzy when u shake it
I really like the corn holder one for carrots and potatoes. My 4 yr old loves peeling carrots but I'm always afraid he's gonna catch his fingers..that will keep them away from the peeler!
We cook with coconut often in our home. We just poke out the eyes, drain the water and throw it in an oven on a baking sheet until it cracks. Remove from oven, wait till it cools and the meat pops right out of the shell.
Those potato holders have always been available here in Germany, with longer handles and with three prongs Mainly used for peeling spuds boiled in their skin which are too hot to hold in the hand.
That was so funny, with the potatoes! 😂😂 If you use an apple corer, the core comes out when you withdraw the corer, thus, rendering the corkscrew redundant . . . at least, my corer works that way, and I just assumed all corers did the same? Maybe they don't? TFS 👍💖

For peeling, I always peel away from me and I do 1 half at time. Peel half, rotating all the way around, then flip and peel the other side. I've never nicked my fingers. I like the idea of the corn holder though. could make it faster :)
Should try this hack with a balloon whisk if you don't have an electric whisk. Hold the handle between both palms and run them back and forth (motion like you're trying to to start a fire using sticks) I find it works so much easier and more quickly than beating normally.... especially if you're trying to whip cream
lol me and my ex girlfriend used to watch every video you uploaded as we had our teas together 8 months later I've finally started watching you again. I missed you videos so much haha!
Barry with the can use your thumb to press down onto the paper while rubbing the entrance of the can i think the paper is there so that you dont cut your thumb because you using the downward force of the thumb .... i did that a few times
The can thing also works with a wooden stick, but maybe it is card in the video. It needs to be strong and thick and it needs to be the corner and constantly rubbing where you drink from around the rim
I have Coconut cups virtually like that from a Malibu promo, they probably used a torch or similar to make those, the science is sound though as you're using heat to make everything expand and then rapidly cooling it in cold water making it contract with the flesh cooling and contracting more due to its water content. You could feasibly do it with any heat source thats hot enough and heats the Coconut evenly so an electric hob could work, you just need a different type of ring as the one in the vid has a gap in the middle that act like a holder.

You have to keep folding the paper or card until it's hard and use it that way but I love the way you always try things I tried the can opening hack didn't work for me so I'm waiting for something to come through the post and see if that works if so I'll let ya know I love the dangerous stuff makes me laugh at Mrs B 😂😂 from UK England
you need to fold the paper more so it's more a solid mass, doesn't need to be sharp you not trying to cut through the can top, you trying to put pressure onto it to break the seal, so the more folds in the paper the better. Use the thickest corner and rub along where the seal should break, put some pressure into it
At the time i was thinking in the original vid, cardboard was being used. Don't know if i commented or not but give it a shot if you'd like. I may try it if i can be a*sed🥴🥴
I can see why the paper can opening thing might work. Some paper is mildly abrasive so you're essentially sanding/polishing your way through, however not all paper is the same, a lot of paper is waxed which will go against it in this regard (and sucks for starting fires as it doesn't burn readily) and some papers are more coarse than others. If it was a drinks can I'd just find something to push the opening in with (your thumb will work but cuts are likely unless you've got tough skin) or if it was a soup can I'd rub it on a rock/concrete (something actually abrasive) until the rim split and I could get the contents out, you'd want to be careful of metal shavings though as these could cause all sorts of issues if you ate them.
You can use a spoon to open the coke! Or the non pointy end of a fork/knife.. just take the spoon and run it around the can lid like it ridge is racetrack lol 🤣 and it should open .you need to use moderate force with this.. i don't mean with the might of Mrs b getting the coconut out 😂 just steady even pressure all around the lid of the can.
Fun fact: a screw driver also works to open up the can if the pulltab breaks off. Lol. Just wack down with the screw driver tip and it will open it up. Lol

you didnt fold the paper enough times, and you need to press down hard over the "opening"
you can just imagine Mrs B waking up in the middle of the night to the noise of Barry still trying to open a can with paper.
🤣🤣🤣
"It's actually on fire!" is Mrs.B's catchphrase at this point.

The victory lift when she finally succeeded with the coconut 🥥 💃🏼😍

Cheese slicer. Best thing ever.
