Born in 69 this was a HUGE part of my childhood! Waiting for my Dad to be off work at Midnight, from a long GM work week. Friday nights he would grab an Arts Pizza... me and Mom would be up watching Sammy and just waiting on Dads headlights to pierce through the front window so we could pour him a cold Coke and wait for our pizza. Great childhood memories i will always cherish! Miss my Mom everyday and so glad i can reflect on found childhood memories.. Thanks Sammy. " Bob"
We used to watch his show every Friday night while eating a Bob's Tu Your Door pizza. I was rarely scared by the movies, but Sammy Terry always scared me to death. When we moved to TN in 1977 I really missed getting to watch his show, there was nothing like him on the air down here. Watching this brought chills to my spine again. His goulish laugh is all that it takes.
Nothing like a classic B horror movie to scare an eight year old! Evert Friday night! Loved it! Moved to Ga. in 75 and experienced the same withdrawal symptoms Kevin!
Never missed a show with my mother as a young man . His wife Mrs Carter was my first grade teacher and he would often come in the class room to see her. Bless your family and you Bob Carter. I mean Sammy Terry.
Wow...I was born in '57 and know all of these characters. I'd forgotten about Cowboy Bob and the rest but Sammy Terry..no way. Loved watching him on Friday nights back in Crawfordsville Indiana. Don't miss the snow though. :)
I remember watching him in the 80s! I would hurry up to make sure I was home to see him with my friends, also I should say that when he came on Friday Night at Midnight I always was able to make sure that the lights was out in my room! Indiana lost a legend a few years ago but he will never be forgotten.
I BARELY remember turning off the TV even Soul Train came on. Maybe I should find the opening to THAT and use it to get me to sleep from those childhood habits 😴
This may seem tame by today's standards, but when you're 7-8 years old in the 80's, and you want to be like your big brother or big sister and stay up late on Friday nights but then they watch this in an upstairs bedroom, with the lights off, away from your parents, usually on an older tv that might be black & white or just poor reception, this scared u to death!! LOL The 80's were the best
Someone just compared me to this cat, due to his laugh....had no idea he even existed, so I had to look him up, and I must say, his presentation is 💯 on point! Severely talented spook! Imma pour one out for him 🫗 RIP🪦 you ghastly ghoul. Respect! ✊️
I remember staying overnight at my grandmother's house when I was a kid. She lived out in the country and at night I would turn on the TV there and watch Sammy Terry. His laugh gave me chills and he was so mesmerizing. Couldn't wait to watch whatever creature featured he was showing. Geez, what great memories. I'm 61 years old now and I miss those days!
I was born Halloween night (many moons ago) and my mother watched Sammy Terry while she was in labor, she had me at 11:45pm making me the official family goblin :) Good ole Sammy scared me many, many Friday nights and I loved him for it.
Growing up and going to school I was always happy when Friday arrived. It meant no school for two days and it was time for Sammy Terry in the evening. I loved his show and still have many fond memories of watching. It's sad that kids today no longer care about this. They see so many things now on movies with all of the sex, blood, and gore that they don't have to have an imagination. Perhaps that's why all we get from Hollywood anymore is just movies are about past TV series or old movies. Those running Hollywood lack any imagination so they have to show everything and reboot all of the old stuff along with 5 sequels to one hit movie.
Sammy Terry SCARED the jeepers out of us back in the early 70's in Brazil, I was ok until the "laugh" then the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, (and they actually just did just now) I got to meet "Sammy" as an adult 1989/90 and I must admit, I have met rock stars, a few movie stars, even a President of the United States of America, and never once became "star struck" until I met Sammy Terry. Friday night Sammy Terry, Saturday night Science Fiction Theater ......ohhhhhhh the horrors LOL, Thanks WTTV 4. Sammy & George fan for LIFE !!!R.I.P Mr. Carter
Some of my favorite memories of growing up in the 80's in Indiana were staying up Friday nights to be scared by Sammy Terry then waking up Saturday morning to watch cartoons. Awesome times
A lost treasure for sure. Sammy was my go-to babysitter every Friday night. I was never too crazy about the movie that followed. It was all about Sammy's set up of the movie that was the "show."
R.I.P. Bob Carter. Like many kids in Indy back in the 80s, I trembled with fear every late Friday night when I heard that wicked laugh. Thanks for scaring the living crap out of me and thanks for the memories.
I took my wife to meet Sammy Terry(Bob Carter) back when he owned and ran Carters Family Music Store in Indy. He was very gracious and incredibly friendly. We were both around ten when Nightmare Theater began in 1962 and it turned out that we both never missed his show. Rest in peace Mr. Carter and "pleasant nightmares".
Watching this brings back fun childhood memories in the 70's growing up in Peru, Indiana. On Saturday nights we all would go to my Aunt's house and all my cousins would come over to eat pizza, siiting on the living room floor watching Sammy Terry while our parents all played euchre in the dining room.
To a twelve year old spending summers at his grandmother's house in Anderson, for summer vacation, Sammy Terry made my weekends eerie and chilling. I've never forgotten him. Loved every minute.
I grew up on this. Kids today have no idea what they are missing. The only time i got to stay up late was to watch Sammy Terry. i have so many fond memories of this character.
I wasn't always allowed to watch his show (or be up so late), but this brings back so many memories. I can still hear his closed-mouth laugh and his sneering "Good evening." Makes me smile.
This reminds me of a better time and place, and my discovery of my love for scary movies and staying up late. Sammy Terry will always be a total classic in my book. One of a kind. Unique and amazingly well suited for the time and the market. This video is awesome.
Love, love this shows B movies. I met Bob years later as Sammy and was most disturbed that his gloves were Playtex Living Gloves, yellow no less. Still brings back wonderful times of being a kid scared to go to bed. Now, I'm just scared to do dishes.
I watched Sammy on my local Channel 4 station Fridays and Saturdays in my formative years. I even remember catching some bloopers from his show on Bloopers&Practical jokes some years back. I miss Sammy, he was always fun and campy, like Elvira. :)
Sammy Terry used to scare the crap out of me back in the 70s--more than the movies sometimes! His acting was impeccable. When someone can make you believe they are actually the character they are portraying... Thanks for all the frights ST. You were the best!
Hahaha! Check out the Playtex dishwashing gloves! Sammy was one funny man. Does anybody remember the halloween special sponsored by Bob Catterson "Noooo-,body" Buick?! Absolutely hysterical! Im still laughing about it 50 yrs or more later. Are there any videos of Bob Catterson saying "Noooooo Body"?
I remember watching this w my brother scared shitless one night I went an seen himat the hills shopping center in Columbus Indiana crazy how time flies
Sammy was always the best. He didn't just play it for yuks; he was actually really pretty scary sometimes. Growing up in the 70's I never missed his show. He played all those old Universal horror films and great stuff like 'It! The Terror from Beyond Space' and 'Night of the Demon.' I actually wish someone would compile an episode list of all the movies he played over the years. Always the best.
I grew up in Paris IL and Nightmare Theater was never missed. I so miss those days back in the early 70's. I just wished all of those shows had been saved on tape. Such a classic treasure was Bob Carter. Truly an original.
He was a special guy who could scare us all half to death! LOL. I wonder how many people were watching Friday nights as I was. I would lay on the floor right in front of the tv with one arm propping my head up, just waiting to be scared! Thanks Sammy Terry for all the childhood memories you provided me with! I've talked about you with others countless times, as they too recalled their memories of watching. You were one of a kind!! RIP and we will miss you...
OMG!!!! Thank you so much for this. Back In the 1970's every Friday night we would watch Sammy Terry and my little brother and I would be so scared. LOL! This brought back so many great memories.
I grewup watching Sammy Terry as a boy in the 60's. I remember when his show first aired...it was the best show on Friday Nights. How I wish every child had a chance to watch this great performer. He was believable in his shows. RIP Bob and thank you for a childhood memory that has lasted with me all these years. I am now 57 and I still love to see old clips of your shows. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,,,,you will be greatly missed my friend.
I used to watch him when I was a boy back in the 80`s.....I got the honor of meeting him a few years ago at Harrodsburg Haunted house just south of Bloomington Indiana....he was Great !!!! I will miss him...
Sammy Terry was some of the best parts of my childhood. :) Every Friday night I would watch his show, never missing the commercial breaks when he was on. I know Bob Carter's son has taken over the part but for me, there is only one real Sammy Terry. Rest in peace Mr. Carter, you've left an indelible legacy for us to remember and enjoy here on UA-cam.
As young boys, my brother & I hardly ever missed an episode of Sammy on Friday night. We loved him & he gave us a good excuse to get to stay up real late, lol. That squeaky coffin and his unforgettable ghoulish laugh! May you R.I.P. Mr Carter, thanks for the memories. I sure miss that time in my life, I loved growing up in the 80's. It just seems everything was so much better!
He scared the hell out of me when I was 4 and my grandpa would let me stay up late. I would shake and feel sick to my stomach, I was so scared. But I watched anyway.
His laugh had me absolutely spooked when I was little. I had to cover my head with a blanket and everything. Thanks for posting this! It brings back a lot of memories.
He was truly a one of kind Horror Host and one of the very best things about growing up in Indianapolis during the 1960's and 1970's. You are and will ever be missed Mr. Carter.
The mother of an old school buddy of mine worked P/T at WTTV-4 and she used to tell this story of how one night she was working late (and she THOUGHT alone) in the copy room typing up some copy. So she hears this soft-spoken voice saying "pardon me" and tap her on the shoulder. She jumps a little and when she turns around, there in full costume is Sammy Terry. Well.. after letting out a blood-curdling scream, "Sammy" explained that the fellow that usually operated "George", (Sammy's spider) was unavailable and asked if her she would mind manning the cane pole that George was suspended from. She said she wasn't sure who was more scared, her or Sammy!! 😁
Watching Sammy Terry on Channel 4 on Friday night was something I always looked forward to while growing up in Indiana. Thanks for the pleasant memories.
I love Sammy Terry it was so much fun to be able to sit up on Friday nights with all your snacks and your drinks watching those good old scary movies and loving to hear Sammy Terry talk miss those days wish we could go back and and live it all over again and we can't forget George 🙂👍🙂👍
Born in 69 this was a HUGE part of my childhood! Waiting for my Dad to be off work at Midnight, from a long GM work week. Scared the shit out of me when I was young but when I grew up and it didn't scare me anymore the nostalgia always brought me back.
Grew up with Sammy. It was the best!
Used to sit in the dark and watch Sammy with my dad, pizza, candy, and all the pop you can imagine, the good old days.
Those days were the best we just didn’t know it Sammy was the best
I remember watching him in the 80s! I would hurry up to make sure I was home to see him with my friends, also I should say that when he came on Friday Night at Midnight I always was able to make sure that the lights was out in my room! If you could stay up past Sammy Terry you'd be treated to a kung fu flick or a Soul Train re-run. Loved growing up in the 80s
I BARELY remember turning off the TV even Soul Train came on.
Maybe I should find the opening to THAT and use it to get me to sleep from those childhood habits 😴
Such a great part of my childhood memories. At 66-years old I still love watching him on UA-cam! Thank you Mr. Carter and WTTV!
