Hell yeah Joe ! ❤
The wheel hop being experienced typically occurs on many high performance cars with aggressive steering geometry. It's called the Ackermann effect, and like you said is normal. It typically is experienced at slow speeds, full wheel lock, and cold tires.
I agree happens on my current G81 and also happened on my old X3M
Absolutely. Happens on my A45S. Sounds chuffing awful!
Cayman GTS did that too. It was annoying on the PZero4, but 80% fixed by fitting Michelin PS4S 😮
@@DontPanicDear Did you have the geometry checked/changed as well when switching tyres? Changing the tires shouldn't eliminate the Ackerman effect. My Cayman did it on cold greasy days with PS4S on full lock without fail. It's inherent to the way the suspension is set up on them.
@@stevecade857changing types absolutely can eliminate it. My wife’s AMG came with Continental sport contact 5 and changing them to Michelin pilot sport 4s eliminated it. Same thing happened on my different AMG when I changed the tyres from the sport contact 6 tyres that it came with.
Looks better with the stock rims in my opinion. Awesome spec!
BMW really did something with all the color options. My favorite are the frozen colors and the light blue one. This looks amazing aswell. They all are so good
Watched something recently (cant remember where) saying those frozen colour paints are difficult to look after. I would like to know more on that. Whatever it was I watched said its cheaper to get one of the gloss colours and apply satin ppf.
Big step-up from a normal paint to a full Individual colour
It does feel more special, similar to owning an ALPINA I could imagine 💚
@@JoeAchilles1 Lovely car and spec , but IMHO that non OEM steering wheel is naff , prefer new standard M wheel .
@@JoeAchilles1absolutely, a special car!
BMW really did an amazing job with all the colors they offer. I like the frozen colors and the mexico blue the most so far. This one is definitely up there. They all look so good it would be very hard to choose
@@JoeAchilles1almost 😉#teamalpina lol
LOVE the British Racing Green! 🏁👍🍻
Thank you 👍🏼
12 seconds in. The drift 👌👌
Honestly feels so balanced on these tyres, dances across the surface 🙌🏽
Love to catch up with your progress from time to time all the best and thank you for the great content over the years
Thanks for stopping by 👌🏽
Just stunning, Joe!
Thank you!
Very interesting and informative as usual 🙌🏻
Totally agree on changing to winter tyres in the cold, wet and snowy months.
Living in Scotland, I currently have Pirelli Sottozero fitted to my 335d Touring and they have been excellent during the past few winters. Also the safety factor they provide when I’ve got my grandson in the car, is very reassuring. Stunning car you have there.
Interesting as always, Joe, and love the steering wheel! Gorgeous! I also enjoy my heated steering wheel throughout the colder months… a brilliant invention! Cheers, Tom
Absolutely beautiful car!! Love it!!
I ordered my first “real” car yesterday. BMW M240i. Your videos are really helpful and informative. Looking forward to coming to the event and saying hi 🚗💨
Great to hear man, love the M240i :-) See you on the 15th!
That green looks absolutely amazing!!!
Thanks!
I've got a '97 Z3 2.8 roadster in Dunkelgrün II and I might have to wrap it to try and get a similar look 😍
My 2019 X3 got the exact same Michelin winter tires 3 winters ago. Absolutely love them!
Great to hear!
Fantastic video fantastic car. Thankfully you are feeling better now.
Looks amazing mate and as always great film 😇👍
The first time they charged me for the running in service, it pissed me right off, still does actually, I'd never been charged for it before, they pretty much rinse you for these cars now, so I think an FOC running in service isn't too much to ask.
Here in asia, bmw asia does not hv a running in service for M cars. Because asian customers refused to pay, so they can continue driving it to 12000km before it is service. No issue, engine can last till the warranty period and then they can fleece the second buyer😂
Good to see you dude! As you know I don’t really like the modern stuff much but have to say this M3 in this colour and spec does look awesome!
Lovely to briefly bump into you bro! Once I'm back from my travels, we will make that lunch happen ❤️
Solid argument for good Winter tires from one driver that actually drives alot. Aka good advice you can really on.
Thank you 🙏🏼 Just wish I had done this video months ago 🤣
Overall I like the feeling of summer tires even 5 degrees Celsius upwards. Overall dynamics is not good with winter.
Let's gooooo 😊 congrats again
I have these tyres on my M2 CS, i’ve driven in minus 14 and they just keep on gripping, they work amazingly in the cold AND wet too, making a BM genuinely useable in winter…totally recommended !
Thanks for the hop👍 I get this on my M240i pilot sport 4.
It was an honour to meet you today, Sir. Love the paint and yellow headlights. Gives it a little bit CS vibe.
Joe is the man ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It’s a beauty mate! You have good taste. You are one of the best, arguable since Jeremy Clarkson in car reviews. It’s the detail and how you bring the viewer to the driving seat! Getting my money right to get me one of these! Appreciate your work!!
Thank you 🙏
Joe,
Thank you that you're so specific about your michelin wintertyres
It's a nice option for me actually to have under my car
That color British Green is stunning!!😍😍😍😍 I love it. Keep up the good work mate 👍 👍
Your correct on the tyre scrub in the cold
Even my puma st with Michelin ps4s does exactly this
Amazing car Joe congrats to you enjoy 💪🏻
Thank you bro!
love the col it looks perfect for the body. ive had Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV on my X5 45e since end Nov running up and down UK and across the alps to Turin a few times - bloody brilliant winter tyres. (agree with heated steering wheel.. there's no going back :)
Love color Joe. Also like the carbon fiber shift paddles!!
Cheers man!
I am pondering the BMW M2/M4 cars, And now I need to go look at the M3 Touring. That Green Joe ! Stunner
Cheers man!
M3 Touring is just an epic looking car! I usually dont like green but this one looks really good on the M3!
That British Racing Green on that M3 Competition is just perfect, perfect, perfect.
Love your content, Joe and absolutely love this color!! And now I want green… 😂
Awesome Joe! Tell your friends at BMW that we want the *M3 Touring* brought to the United States 🇺🇸 asap.
Fits you soo much better than the Dravit one honestly! Also like the OEM wheels w bit better. Great vid Joe!
Love the subtle rotation in every corner. I'm on my 4th new car and every one of them have been 10-15 min driving from the dealership to get the engine warm and then I do full pedal to the metal lol. No M-level cars unfortunately though, but they've been holding up fine for the 3 years ownership at least.
Haha cheers man, love the feeling winters give me in slippery conditions :-)
I’m a big fan of how it looks on the standard wheels. BRG looks great, subtle yet different
This colour is so much better imo. I am also a sucker for green cars. You have chosen wisely 😃👍😁
Haha thank you!
Joe is back !
Almost spring time.
Hey Joe, we have this autonomous driving package on our M40i X3. And you are correct you can let go of the steering wheel for a brief second in the car will steer in the direction of the turn. You can also rest your hands on the steering wheel, which is what Bmw recommends if you remove your hands from the steering wheel too long, the steering wheel will flash at you and disengage and warn you, but it’s advised not to let the car drive for you.
You sound much better now Joe, enjoy the car and keep well for us.😎
Joe I think you have been hacked mate.
Your a great ambassador for Michelin 😎😎😎👍.... Great choice of materials for the new steering wheel Joe 👏👏👏🫶
Thank you, I'm grateful to be partners with them for another year 💙
I think you've set a record for the most new M3's...
I must be up there....
Best without a V8 😉
Love that colour Joe. I agree about winter tyres but my mileage these days does not warrant the expense.
Cheers Peter! See you on the 15th 👊🏽
Wish they brought this to the states
Were you able to buy bmw star marked alpin 5's? Do star marked tyres matter in your experience?
Almost looks like a M3 Touring "CS" in BRG with those yellow DRLs... Admittedly I sit firmly on the Audi side of the fence (albeit I adore the M5), but there's no denying you have a super sweet ride Joe 👍
I do find it strange running in process on a boosted car, na i understand, but with a turbo motor, u want to seat the piston rings asap. i would say 200 miles light loads, then send it 😉 but hey, got to keep bmw happy and your warranties. I'm glad to see you back top quality video as always 🙌🏿😎
Seriously Joe that BRG is just fantastic. I picked up my M4 in IOM a few months ago (just had my running in service 🍾) and I adore it but your green just pops - jealous! 🤣
Anyway, seriously I totally agree with you about tyres. I really don’t think we Brits really get just how important tyres are. My daily is an A4 Allroad with Michelin Cross Climate 2s and it copes with anything the U.K. can throw at it. But, a few years ago I had an E46 2wd touring, yet with winter tyres it was clear that it coped with snow & ice so much better than any 4wd on summer tyres.
Keep the great content coming & stay well.
Sorry Joe did you want to speak to me??
What a combination...the body, wheels and headlights, sexy!
Curious if I can get those tyres for our x3. I went with cross climates and they have been really solid
Really digging the beamer greens of late. Must be an age thing.
I do have to admit Joe that I was initially convinced that new nano paint technology was being introduced! Nice colour though, looks really good on the M3 Touring.
I live in the North part of Norway, here we use winter tires with dubbs/Spikes in them. It is almost the only winter tire you can use here where i live because of ice and very icey roads. Do you know the performance of these tires on ice (not snow) on a car like this?
Dream car.
Really pleased with it!
Be very interested how jack managed to remove padding in that wheel when it has a heating element? I have asked him numerous times to do this to my M5 and G82 M4 and he has stated it is not possible as he lays the Alcantara over the leather due to the heating element and not damaging it.
Taking my f80 to La Thuile for a ski trip very soon.
Brilliant video Joe. Please ask them to make Michelin Alpin 5’s for the M5 in 20” size for the style m343 wheels. Couldn’t find them anywhere in the UK.
Time to take it to the Alps then!
Yes 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
What brand and model are the bronze wheels shown being taken off to fit the winter wheels/tires? Thanks!
My dream car
Hope they are star rated tyres
Thoughts on the Michelin Cross Climate 2s?
Hope you're feeling much better now. Always looking forward to your content and the next Drive Torque podcast.
What was wrong Joe ??
Thanks buddy, much better!
Only BRG can make that snoz look better.🤭 The long roof does really help also. Overall a really desirable sportwagon but for one thing, that ridiculous long flat dash display. Your last M3’s cluster and buttons was about perfect. 🍺
Thanks Joe, I’ve had winter tyres on my current 320D for several years now and I’ve got a M340i on order and this information is certainly something to bear in mind for next winter. Where did you get your steering wheel retrimmed?
Awesome to hear man! Wheel was done with Jack at Royal steering wheels in Aylesbury 👌🏽
Which car is better, your BMW or Audi RS6? Also, are both cars good for track days?
Where can I get one of those exact Michelin caps? Link please
Best wagon on the market right now 👌
Agreed!
Have you tried the RS6, that's a beast. And yes i am a BMW fanboy ;)
Better rims now Joe 👌
What colour is that? Is it a wrap or ordered from factory? Stunning.
Where can I get the phone holder can it work on all the phones which is it
One comparison video I'd love to see is comparing the Pilot Alpin 5 to the Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires, and not on snow and ice, but on cold dry and cold wet. In my experience, the All Seasons are better on cold dry and cold wet, but I'd love to see a sciencey comparison.
I believe that the PS AS 4 tire is for the North American market only. They’re my go-to tire for many of the same reasons that Joe mentions, but because of the extended operating range, I find them to be an excellent summer tires as well. Snow performance is good, but you’ll give up some deep snow traction and stopping distance.
Have had the heated steering wheel in my G21 330e and M340i and often find it too hot, even on a pretty cold day. Perhaps just the way my body works. Still appreciate it though.
Good to see you and the car at Swift. grillez is looking superb. How do you keep the Alcantara clean, my steering wheel is a nightmare to keep clean.
Not easy! Steaming and scrubbing with a dedicated type of brush is the only real way to bring one back.
I have a 911 with Alcantara (Racetex) and now use very thin fine leather fingerless gloves. Better grip and a 100% perfect wheel.
I must say, I do think it’s an overrated material on a road car wheel.
Winter tyres are instantly transformative. The unfortunate thing is the market is small here and it is hard to source the best tyres, especially for large wheels. So hard, I wonder why I bother. But you did well to find Alpin 5s.
Do BMW require BMW-approved tyres like Porsche and their "N-mark"? Adds to my grief.
BMW recommend their * marked tyres, but I believe it's far less important with winter tyres compared to summers 👌🏽
@@JoeAchilles1 I'm told that by fitting non-Porsche-approved tyres, the warranty on parts, e.g., transmission, could be invalidated.
Wait, you guys pay for your run in service in the UK? In the US it's included.
What suspension do you have?
Looking awesome, wheels are a little too much for me personally but great taste overall!
Hi Joe look like this’s an awesome colour。 I driving a G 80 M3 X drive, front brakes very squeaky. Only done 11,000km only. Any suggestions to get rid of this? Really annoying.
Come on big guy, BLACK CALBER’S on that gorgeous British Racing Green.
I thought this was the same car but just wrapped green? Or is it now a new one?
Where is that front split from?
so jealous I wish we got these in the US
This car will be in my garage one day.
I still can't believe it's in mine 🙏🏼
New steering wheel looks great IMO. Interesting though that I had just watched a Chris Harris video where he says that alcantara has no place on a steering wheel unless you are using gloves... I've never tried myself...
Is it necessary to do the Run-In service in a m240i?
No buddy, only M cars 👌🏽
did you lose your warranty due to the exhaust?
Lovely car although I would stay with the standard M wheel I like chunky feel..although most reviewers seem not to..
Please get the CSL grill, it would look perfect
They look great, but open up the radiators even more and I'm not willing to take that risk
What happened to the brayyyynnn wheels? Looks like they've been sprayed black?
No idea what they are? But the winter tyres are on the OEM wheels, my Edelweiss have the summers on them.
Love the car Joe! Small question: what wheel spacers did you have installed? Cheers!
Cheers Paul, I have 8mm all round with my winters and nothing with my Edelweiss 👌🏽
@@JoeAchilles1 Can I ask what brand?
Awesome machine. Regarding the running in period. Can you elaborate on what it means to not putting the engine under load?
High gear low rpms?
Sustained rpm regime?
Cheers
‘Under load’ in that context, would mean requesting a high torque output.
Foot hard down at low rpm, even if below running in limit. Not advised in new cars.
@@DontPanicDear thanks for clarifying! Cheers
Definitely not a fan of green BMWs. Green only looks good on vintage Range Rovers. But the British Racing 🏁 Green looks well suited in the UK 🇬🇧, it just works. 👍🏻
I’m sorry but anyone who needs a heated steering wheel in the UK in a petrol car which hets up fairly quickly must be a complete woos 🤣😂🤣. Sorry to hear you’ve been poorly Joe, seems you’re well on the road to recovery now! Stunning car 😀👍👏 ps glad to see you’re still enjoying the GS! 🏍
“..subtle rotation in the corners..”, that’s cold summer tire slippage right?😉
