I beg to disagree on this being the only Commodores instrumental tune. Also on that same album (their debut) on the same side (side 1) the last track is also an instrumental - Rapid Fire. On their 3rd album Movin' On, there's an instrumental, the last track called Cebu. So, kabayan, the total number of instrumentals of the Commodores (with Lionel Richie in the line up at least) totals to 3.
This jam and Outta Space by Billy Preston is so similar in some ways..on the Futuristic Funk level anyway! Keep in mind,.. these recordings came out way back in the early to mid-70s!!! 🎹
As a teenager I ran a discotheque with a friend, did weddings, etc. This record ALWAYS got the crowd dancing! And I mean always! It was embarrassing how easy it was. The only skill was WHEN to play it. You had to feel for when was the right time!
Bro, this track was a Super Smash in the Phil in the mid 70's. It was so big that, for the first time in Phil radio history, they started to feature this in a 30min non-stop play to the delight of all dance afficionados (very early stage of Disco) and even just for the pulsating, synth magical sound! Incredible track! Then the Commodores held a sold-out concert to the Filipino people. Loved them!
this is leaning music, in your ride, with systems on blast pockets full of cash. down low in your seats creeping on those streets, listening to this beats, with a freak in you seat.
Who here in 2020....DANC'D to this in the early Mid-70's...fresh from the Press? And Spun their ASS like a TOP on the Clubs Dance Floors?...Can I have a 'Heeeeeyyyyyy!''? ..LoL
Historic first single by The Commodores in 1974. They had just come from a worldwide tour opening for the Jackson 5 in 1973 when they finally convinced Motown to release this Super Jam that lit up all dance floors nationwide. Oddly Motown was seeking a lead singer for the group and quickly went to Lionel R. who was not really a part of the group or the tour with J5. The drummer and the lead quitar player, in my opinion were very good lead singers but Lionel was given the lead nod. Go figure.
It was a good move putting Lionel as the lead. Their would be no 3 times a lady, Easy, fancy dancer and just to be close to you. Lionel wrote a lot of the commodores hits. Gotta give Lionel his props.
In college radio I read announcements and other nonsense while using this as bed music. It had to be looped because the original is under three minutes, so it went on a cart that just ran and ran. One day someone called up and said "Play the damn song!!"
I hear the music Pops, Rock, Hard-Rock, Heavy-Metal, Jazz, Classic-music in usual. however I got hear many many a lot of takusan other genre of music. it's study, practice and learn for playing guitar. I like this song's funky rhythm guitar(0:20~0:37). I try to play rhythmical and cool like this. Sorry to write my poor English text from Japan.
DARN STRAIGHT ,,this is when music was more kick ass ,,back in 1972 ,,,commodores first one ,,,ol lionel on the keyboard ..good job on the video ragelt
I get angry when I hear in the beginning there were naysayers who tried to quash this single. Thank God catz just ignored The haters. Grew up with this on Radio 5 in Johannesburg. How Blessed??
Imagine. Track number 1 on album number 1, back in 1974. What best way to say 'Hello world. We're the Commodores.' They entered the musical stage like a machine gun.
Sometimes you just wanna feel the beat and instruments and don't feel like hearing someone rap or sing. Memo to Rappers. You would get more older fans if you'd put out a instrumental version of your songs. Rap fans would buy the rap version but older people would buy the instrumental version if it has a great beat. Just FYI. Old school rappers use to do that.
Got a copy of this song upon.its release on 45 rpm it was the most requested song during my younger days at 68 still I love this song very still I could dance to the best so electrifying
Me recuerda mi adolescencia en la ciudad de Bogotá. Una cadena radial utilizaba éste tema de cortina para identificar la estación FM Stereo era la novedad para la época ! Saludos desde mi bella VENEZUELA !
This would be great to use with my music videos that I play, except for the clip of Stevie Wonder. Maybe someone can mix in this version with the Commodores performance from Soul Train, or from the live performance they did on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. Though the video quality on both of those are sketchy
If you’re still listening to this in 2020 we are automatically friends...

Many people today don't know that this is a Commodores' song! It was actually their first big hit and their ONLY instrumental song. It's a nice jam.

You didn't need the clip of Stevie wonder. Why not use the clip of the Commodores performing machine gun on Soul Train.
Hi. I have your channel I like this 🎶 so I will put it in my library so keep the jams coming your.no.1fan
Not bad! The original makes its points and gets off stage, but it's nice to hear a version that sticks around for a few more bars.
This is the original imo, the other one is the radio edit.
@@andredeketeleastutecomplex No, the album version is 2:43. This is just lengthened by repeating a couple of riffs.
This is as top shelf masterpiece....Period
