Young People’s Role in Adapting and Mitigating to Climate Change [Voice on Climate Episode 3]

Having become the major discussion in climate negotiations, It is undeniable that climate change has a detrimental contribution to extreme weather events. Therefore, it creates a bigger impact on vulnerable residences with little readiness and infrastructure in adapting and mitigating climate change related disasters (Nature, 2022). Adjusting to the current and future effects of climate change, and making the impacts of climate change less severe by preventing or reducing the emission of greenhouse gasses (GHG) into the atmosphere is pivotal (IMF, 2021). Therefore, mitigation and adaptation are the two major pillars to combat the climate crisis.
By featuring Ruqia Abdullah who work with the United Nations World Food Programme (UNFWP) on adaptation projects and as a Max Thabiso Edkins Climate Ambassador 2023 Cohort, this podcast will attempt to reveal: 1) Impacts of climate change to human and biodiversity; 2) Understanding mitigation to reduce climate change impact; 3) Understanding adaptation pathways to address climate change impact; 4) The role of young people in adapting and mitigating climate change.
