Your style of reviewing is so straightforward and has no unnecessary ruffles. It's really refreshing to watch and listen to. You also select extremely unusual and interesting books. I enjoy listening to you, even if my taste in books doesn't exactly overlap with yours 😊
I lived in Alabama for a while and can confirm that they often used brand names to describe a product in general - like you'd go to a restaurant, order a coke, and then they'd ask "what kind" and you'd specify Mr Pibb. I've definitely heard someone ask for "a Kotex" like we would ask for a kleenex or a ziplock while just meaning a tissue or sandwich bag.
Thank you for this list! I really liked the way you summed your books up, whether you liked them or not and added a ton to my TBR. Looking forward to your July round up!
Great review. I love that you read a lot of short stories and novellas. I read foster this year and loved it. I love claire Keegan’s writing and will try to read more of her books. I loved the employees a lot but then, I love sci fi. Thank you for your review
I'm so glad I found your channel. I absolutely love your book taste and commentary, but this will definitely get me in trouble with more book haul spending!
@@frankiesshelf if you're enjoying like short magical realism-adjacent books i cant recommend crooked plow by itamar vieira jr enough!! looking forward to your next post
The citations in the footnote is typically how history writing is done but omg it hurts my research heart that he didn’t cite things more than links 🤢🤢🤢
truly he’d say like “a study showed that so and so” and the source would be a buzzfeed article titled “TOP TEN CRAZY FACTS ABOUT SO AND SO YOU WON’T BELIEVE”
my library has a system that tells me what books are similar to ones i like!! any way of doing that works for me, goodreads also has a “readers also liked” section that’s great. i find it hard to find lists on goodreads that have stuff i actually wanna read, one i found is called “women vs the void” here: www.goodreads.com/list/show/153845.women_vs_the_void and basically all of them look interesting to me other than that i just go in person to the library and read the blurbs of a bunch of books :) that’s definitely the most difficult way though
@@frankiesshelf thankyou so much ill check that list out!! and love your videos, its hard finding someone with similar book tastes but all ur recs look so good!!!
yeah i can’t disagree on any of that. it was one of the first danish translations i’ve ever read so i forgave a lot of the simplistic language because of that because some languages are HARD to translate to english ! but i’ve read some more now and i’ve realized it was just a bad translation of a bad original
@@frankiesshelf lmao. savage! I read this last year (or maybe two years ago) so take what I say with a grain of salt as my memory is already garbage and some time has passed. The main character wasn't well-written. I remember her being unlikeable, which is fine, unlikeable characters can make great focuses for media, but in a way that didn't... do anything? There was no commentary being made. And she (can't remember the main character's name) didn't feel complex. It felt like a book where an author was trying to write a complex character study while exploring obsession, censorship, and social media but failing. And the residue of those concepts/themes is present in the book which lends a faux layer of "oh shit, this is talking about real issues" to ultimately say nothing. And as a person with mental illnesses (including OCD) I don't think the author did anything interesting with the concept of obsessiveness of the book or the way it can manifest itself behavioral. But, ultimately, what made me hate the book, was the ending. What was reading it like for you?
@@frankiesshelf Also, unrelated, are there any mlm books similar to Milk Fed that you've read? I'm looking for a mlm, friends-to-lovers (NOT opposites attract) book where two guy friends realize, "holy shit I might be in love?"
I picked up Ghost Wall and I’m so intrigued by the premise but did you find that the author needed a better editor? There are so many “he said”, “she said”, “I thought” and “said mum”
i didn’t notice that but i totally believe you, i’d think it might be because of the lack of quotation marks ? there’s definitely better ways to make that make sense though lol i hope it doesn’t bug you too much id love to hear your thoughts if you finish it !!
I hope you continue making book reviews. This was a good round up.

Loved your review!, Claire keegan is amazing
i lived through it i do NOT want it in my escapism
Look for a film called The Quiet Girl. It’s an adaptation of Foster by Claire Keegan. It’s a mixture of Irish & English with subtitles.
just watched the trailer and it’s shot so beautifully it looks great !!
@@frankiesshelf it was Oscar nominated
By Irish do you mean Gaelic or just Irish dialect.
