When I first got into the Transformers, all the Megatrons I knew were idiots, mindless brutes or too vain, barely with any character. I always preferred Starscream because he was more interesting and seemed more intelligent (yet undercut by his own personality) Then Prime happened, and I saw a competent, scheming, anticipating Megatron Then Animated, and there was a smooth talking, seducing yet brutal and immovable Megatron Then IDW happened And I don't think I will ever see a Megatron that is more thoughtful, gripping and awe inspiring than that incarnation.
Beast Wars Megatron was pretty good too. The guy almost rewrote history by using time travel and managed to conquer Cybertron on his own and was able to rule it for a long time during Beast Machines until he got defeated by Optimus Primal. But Aligned Megatron and IDW Megatron are the best ones by far.

I once told optimus I killed for the sake of killing. I wanted to make him hurt me, you see because when he hurts others he hurts himself. Just Call Me Whatever's Gamer Channel and the only version where Megatron realizes his faults and sees his mistakes, even though he has good ideals, he is just not good on executing them.
And his name (for good or bad) will be Remember and Hear through all the Universe, for many, a Tyrant, for other, A revolutionary leader, but at the end...........A legend who would never die.
Take your favorite character that hasn’t been written to this level of depth and try to create a heartfelt story for them. Creation can grant you the freedom you’ll never find through consumption alone.
I think the reason I empathize with Megatron in the IDW comics is because we get to see the perspective of his ideals, of what he really wanted and how it got corrupted into something else because of anger, hatred, and insecurity. The other iterations we only saw glimpses of his past self, and in Prime we only got to see his old ideals and change of heart come about after he was subjected to Unicron’s control. MTMTE was the best out of all in my opinion, because we get to see how he does care for his comrades and his former faction. And it had one of the best endings for him if im being honest.
I wish we get to see something like this with Sentinel Prime someday because he was a hero who freed Cybertronians from the Quintessons in gen 1 and a hero in other iterations. I'd like to see when and how he became corrupted too.
@@zoefurlong8031 In the bayverse it was out of pure desperation to revive Cybertron. In TF1, they just made him power hungry. In the games he dies during the war like a war hero I think, iirc.
The Autobot conversion seemed initially very weird but his conversation with Ravage implied he was physically, mentally and emotionally much wearier than he appeared on the outside and kind of over it, as normally he has a reservoir of inner rage which he tapped into for the last time when confronting his T Cog addicted fanboy.
Y'know, when you look at the earlier parts of the story from Megatron's perspective, you can actually sort of understand his motivations, especially when you're looking at the Aligned Continuity and the comics. He was given the short end of the stick from the day he was built, and all he's really wanted was equality for himself and all others on Cybertron. Is that really so much to ask?

This really changed my perception on the decepections. Thrown into been an outcast because of his alt-mode, his friends killed by the higer ups, made him work mindlessly. Megatron only vision was for a better Cybertron where everyone is equal before his mind got consumed by his tryanny side Also, the Autobots weren't any better either before optimus got the matrix. All the higher-ups were full of courrpt bots.
I never read the IDW comics but I’m going to. Megatron as a penitent Autobot is such an unusual direction for the character but a beautiful redemption story.

The issue with Megatron, is somewhere along the line he lost what his original purpose was, he became the very thing that he swore to destroy, a slave turned tyrant He said it himself "i didn't think i meant them, but i soon realized i did" referring to his taunts against Optimus regarding his heinous deeds, he WAS fighting for the right thing, till he became convinced that all means are justified for HIS end, the promised future that he never achived because he was too busy with his running rivalry with prime.

MTMTE/Lost Light kind of does? It has 2 endings and in both Megatron’s redeemed.
the previous AMV with the Overlord OP feels like the Epic finale to the series while this is the more Emotional Character-focused Epilogue

The issue with Megatron, is somewhere along the line he lost what his original purpose was, he became the very thing that he swore to destroy, a slave turned tyrant
He said it himself "i didn't think i meant them, but i soon realized i did" referring to his taunts against Optimus regarding his heinous deeds, he WAS fighting for the right thing, till he became convinced that all means are justified for HIS end, the promised future that he never achived because he was too busy with his running rivalry with prime.
