Please show the ECM swap, and whether the car runs better post computer change.

ECM swap is easy. The problem is that most of the refurbished units go out very fast. I replaced two under the warranty within a year

One of my car things I've collected in my 42 years of life car wise is a tpi setup. ( intake, runners, injectors rails , harness, pcm) Man times were so different back then. Awesome video

I appreciate your teaching and sharing good information. I was always a good wrench man, but tend to dread diagnostics. Regarding the original symptoms I was reminded of a similar aged GM car that turned out to be a leaky intake manifold gasket, but I have no doubt that you're a guy who is experienced enough to know the full range of possibilities.

GM OBD1 wow what a blast from the past. I still remember code "22" being 'diagnostics ready' or something to that effect when you short the diag pins. Don't ask me how I remembered that after 30 years. I recall that the ECMs themselves are pretty goddamn simple, not very difficult to rig up a "replacement" from a whole different model altogether so long as you've got the original ROM code from the specific model you're working on. God it's been forever since I've done that

My 84 Firebird had ECM problems. Sometimes it run fine but other days it had missfires. One chip on the board was soldered only from the bottom but not on the top. Soldering it fixed the problem.

Is it possible the ECU has a bad capacitor? My 88 Foxbody Mustang GT was having idle and drivability problems. Turned out to be two bad electrolytic capacitors on the ECU board. One was bulged and the other was just starting to leak. I caught it just in time. Replaced the two caps and all was as good as new. Bulging and leaking electrolytic caps are very common with any computer or electronics of this age.

OBD II was such an upgrade (especially for the DIY'er) in the repair field. That being said, even it isn't infallible. But a definite help.
I remember having to do this trick to an old 90 Horizon I had when I was younger to diagnose and fix a problem; I do miss the days when you could actually see the road from the top of the engine bay.

You're like a couple of great professors I had in college back in the last century that made me learn.
On my 88 corvette, the left front rotor gets a little hotter than the other side. All new pads & clean fluid. What do you think?

Check that the ECU gets 12 volt on all the Vcc pins (and grounds too for good measure). If not it will not be able to blink the fault codes.

Hi Ratchets I have an Audi a4 1.4 tfsi 2016 model. And the car is shaking between 1000-2000 rpm only in 1st gear if I accelerate gently. If I step on the gas more than half it won't happen. Can you please help me with this. I couldn't find it on any website I don't want to waste tons of money by going to a Audi garage with a problem like this.

What u don't have the massive case of pre 96 obd diag. Kit. With about 300 different connectors. What a joke that kit is. Takes up more room than 10 impact cases. And all it does is exactly what u said a series of flashes.
