Sometimes I get in sort of a rhythm with the videos, and I really wanted to get through these early installments before I moved on to some of the other products they put out that weren't part of the subscriptions.
When I first played the DM ruled using gold to buy your experience. I realized later on that he definitely did not use the standard generation for treasure; it was reduced by a considerable amount. With expenses of room/board, equip, etc. it took a few adventures to save enough gold to level up. Interesting insight on the personal side of the business with wages and employees!
Most of our DMs allowed us to level up to 3rd before having to spend money on training. Few of us players would spend money on repairs for armor and weapons and equipment. And I honestly can't remember a single time when somebody took a bath 😂
I think we just followed the rules as written for XP originally, but at some point a good DM is going to look at that system and modify it I think. Not one of the best rules/concepts Gary came up with-- although I think in his view at that time, going into dungeons to come out with treasure was the point -- you needed all that gold to build your stronghold, pay for your soldiers and maintain your barony. As the goals of players change the XP system needed to evolve to fit.
"Pay to level up?? What?" I remember the first time a DM mentioned that - I had to go find the rule. Definitely was not part of our routine as kids. Nor were baths for that matter. We did always buy ale and food - I guess that shows teenage priorities :)
It's all free no copyright music from UA-cam's library. If you go to the info about a video (where it says "more ..."), down at the bottom it should show you the music being played in that video.
You are really putting these out quick!!

Loves me sum Judges Guild products! The Bledsaw Blitz!!
JG is great, especially the early stuff. I think Bledsaw has been a bit underappreciated in the history of the hobby.
I have the Village Book I but bought mine separately. It really is a nice product and very useful.
I agree. Many of these early products from JG were really helpful, and creative ideas that a DM would get a lot of use out of even today.
I've been meaning to ask, what is the music that you use in the background of these videos?

I never gave XP for gold myself.
We didn't get XP for gold either but it may be that our DMs gave us extra XP for the dungeon and how much we did and took out.
I honestly don't remember how we got XP back in the day. I think we used monster, magic items and coins for XP.
