    i think when most people say NV2 they actually mean "another obsidian-made fallout, please" or "another fallout in the same story-is-the-setting vein as NV"

      That's certainly what I mean when I say "New Vegas 2".

      Hey, fair enough. I've never heard it phrased like that, I think that's quite apt.

    The point of “wah why would you want a game taking place in the same setting? It would ruin player choice in the previous game!” Is a completely asinine, intentional misunderstanding made by Bethesda fanboys to discredit any point made by critics. When people say they want a “New Vegas 2”, they mean they want another fallout game that has the same, if not better quality of new Vegas rather than the brain melting slop Bethesda is hellbent on shitting out year after year.

    • @speedingoffence
      @speedingoffence  Рік тому +4

      What Bethesda fanboys? Who's out there discrediting what critics? Critics of what? I'm not sure what it is exactly you're trying to defend.
      The big thing is 'you can't force a good game', perhaps I could have put more emphasis there. Any game billed the next New Vegas, whether meant literal or not, would face the same unrealistic expectations.

    • @EmperorAmbrose
      @EmperorAmbrose Рік тому +9

      @@speedingoffence if you don’t know about fanboys, then it’s clear you haven’t paid much attention to the fandom as a whole. Either that or I’m just constantly finding myself on the toxic side for some reason. Either way, there’s a whole side of the Bethesda fanbase who constantly defend quite literally almost everything they do while shunning new Vegas. Some well known figures are Oxhorn and Many a True Nerd. They defend all the changes and retcons Bethesda makes to the fallout series. Then you have people who criticize Bethesda’s choices, calls them out for poor writing and inconsistent settings, like Creetosis and hbomberguy.
      What I’m overall trying to say, is that people who say they want a ‘New Vegas 2’ don’t *literally* want a direct sequel to New Vegas. The people who tend to say this are people who are tired of Bethesda’s constant worsening of quality, and want them to put more effort into writing better things.
      For some reason, and I have no idea why, a lot of Bethesda fans go after critics because Bethesda can apparently do no wrong.
      Also yes, while I can agree that you can’t force a good game, there comes a point where you actually need to put in effort, and if your writers seem to be completely incapable of doing so, they need to be replaced. This it reinforced by Bethesda’s lead writer, Emil Pagliarulo, almost bragging about how they don’t use design documents for their writing, and that he intentionally doesn’t even put effort into his work to begin with because “people are going to take your story, rip out the pages, and make paper airplanes with them.”
      It’s not a matter of whether they will meet expectations (despite them being so low that they’re a tripping hazard in the lowest level of hell), and that something needs to change drastically for Bethesda to actually achieve something worthy of being called an RPG, rather than the on-rails looter-shooter they have been since 2008.

      @@EmperorAmbrose I'm pretty sure you haven't watched any MATN. He's about the biggest FNV fan you can get.
      Look out over the media in response to Starfield. It's getting ripped to shreds. I'm not seeing any fanboys propping up to defend it.
      I think you're seeing an adversary that just isn't there. We'd all like more from Bethesda. I think most of us have given up hope. It'd be nice to get the Obsidian guys together to take another crack at it, because, as is so easily forgotten, they already tried once.

    • @EmperorAmbrose
      @EmperorAmbrose Рік тому +3

      @@speedingoffence I can’t really believe Matn is the biggest new Vegas fan there is considering how he constantly makes incorrect and disingenuous digs at it throughout his “fallout 3/4 is better than you think” videos, but if you believe as such, then so be it.
      I am well aware about the general consensus about starfield. I’m glad that people are finally starting to open their eyes, but the blind patriotism is still very much a thing with fallout and elder scrolls.
      As much as obsidian would be a step in the right direction for fallout, much of the team who wrote new Vegas has since left. There will have to be another company to take its place, especially since Bethesda is hellbent on trying to bury any of obsidian’s involvement in the series to begin with.

    • @speedingoffence
      @speedingoffence  Рік тому +3

      @@EmperorAmbrose I've seen those videos. Liking Fallout 3 or 4 is not the same as not liking New Vegas, nor does it make you an apologist. And trying to claim that New Vegas is without fault is, even if you discount the bugs, just not realistic.
      It's a weird cultural phenomenon of our time where people seem to think that, should you not ascribe to one extreme, you must therefore ascribe to the opposite extreme. I liked 3 and 4 and Skyrim. I also like FTL and Rimworld and Factorio and Elden Ring. None of these things detract from New Vegas because they're good at different things.

    Update NV to whatever current standard, sure.
    But NV2 will be disaster if not because all the people that made NV great already left.
    Unless NV2 brings back Josh Sawyer and Chris Avellone Im not buying it.

    "Shouldn't" I feel is flawed logic though. With that mindset they shouldn't have made Vice City after GTA 3, and so on up until 6.
    That also implies never try to make a 2 if the original wasn't so well received, when sometimes the original just need a bit more to be great and a sequel could've done that.

    • @speedingoffence
      @speedingoffence  9 місяців тому

      That's a solid point, and while I'm going to counterpoint it, it's still getting a thumbs up.
      There's a couple distinctions. The GTAs, for instance, weren't direct sequels. One could say that, when people ask for a new Fallout New Vegas, they're also not looking for a direct sequel, just a spiritual sequel... Well, that exists, and no one seems to remember it happened.
      Then you have the Mass Effect games, which are distinct because they were always meant to be a trilogy, and they don't wrap up until the third act.
      The big distinction with FNV, and it's fair to say I didn't really dive into it, is that it's been done for awhile now. The 'window' for that sequel came and went, and the game has ascended into... Something more.
      Even if that weren't the case, though, sometimes a good story should just end. Sometimes loose ends should stay loose. I think Arcane League of Legends is the best example of this, even if it is a different media- ya, those characters were fantastic, but that ending, which is nothing but loose ends, is perfect. I hope the new series will be a different story that's adjacent, but not involved with the original.
      Can you imagine if we got an epilogue about the Capulets and Montegues burying the hatchet?

    What a well-made and thought-out video. I remember a similar argument when devil may cry 5 was just a rumour. In fact Vashthebullet made a video asking how much time, money, resources were needed to make an excellent devil may cry 5. I couldn't believe how excellent devil may cry 5 was when it was released. I can't help but feel a similar sentiment when I think of the fallout series recently (especially after fallout 76 and to some extent fallout 4).
    I think a fallout new vegas 2 or an improved fallout game in a different setting is overdue. I am hopeful that in 5-10 years we can look back and say they actually did it.

  • @AlexanderKuznetsovAKASergei

    Wouldn't mind a sequel to New Vegas so long as there's a story one can come up with to justify there being a sequel. Would likely have to involve a different character and/or have it take place several years later akin to how Fallout 2 took place decades after 1 as having the same protagonist would require transferring choices from the previous game or choosing a canon ending. Or would be funny to release DLC 10 years later after the last DLC just as a fun unlikely hypothetical. The Frontier mod seemed to serve that function though it turned out to be a disappointment in terms of lore accuracy instead being as Warlockracy describes it a "an exotic spinoff, Fallout themed Duke Nukem game" and fun to watch shitposts on. Wouldn't mind a Fallout game set in a different country as i don't remember there being much info in terms of how the rest of the world is doing outside of a mentioning of Britain in 3. As others mentioned perhaps NV2 is just another way of communicating the desire for another Fallout game developed by the people who made NV or at least an installment that's similar in feel to it.

    Tim Cain has said after New Vegas that he has an entire story drafted for probably his final Fallout. It wouldnt be a "New Vegas 2" so to speak. All of the Black Isle/Obsidian Fallouts demonstrate a logical development of the world space that isnt simple a theme park of recognizable factions.

I highly doubt he will make another Fallout game, especially since Bethesda would be involved, and most likely change a lot of what he has envisioned for a fallout story. It's unfortunate
