Hey Mike, let them run down river until they turn and start back up the river. When they turn back up river usually meant they’ve swallowed the bait. Then try and set the hook. Hope it helps on your hookup rate.

Awesome video. Wow that was a huge pig. Just a suggestion with the gar, wrap the bait with yarn. Their teeth get caught in it and you won't lose them. Hope it helps. Love your seasoning by the way. Thanks for sharing another great video, take care and stay safe.

You should try brining the hams. Get a 5 gallon bucket with lid, 1 cup of kosher salt, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/8 cup black pepper, 1/8 cup paprika, 8 or so cloves of garlic, 1 sliced onion, 4 sliced apples, a handful of your favorite fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano, sage, etc) and 2 gallons of apple juice or cider. Put 1 gallon of the juice in a pot, add all the seasonings, apples, garlic, herbs and onion; heat until everything is dissolved, let cool (you can add ice to speed it up). Put the butt in the bucket, pour the pot of brine over the butt, add the other gallon of juice over it, fill the rest of the bucket with ice. Let that soak for atleast 24 hours while adding ice every 6 to 8 hours depending on how fast it melts. When you’re ready to smoke it, rinse it off and pat dry with a paper towel, rub it down with your favorite seasoning, and smoke it low and slow. 👌🤑

Thank you for explaining about the hunting from the boat, I always wondered how that works since most of the property in Texas is private property. Ive heard of a lot of people taking pigs while fishing.

But I cant find anything in the tpwd about being able to shoot hogs anywhere but on public lands with a permit or with land owner permission. Would really like to know the full details of how this works.

I always smoke Wild Hog to 145 degrees and then wrap in foil and finish to 205. Pulls really well and is tasty.
I have always heard you need to cook wild hog to at least 165 to kill any diseases they carry.
I have never had bad wild hog. Prefer to domestic for sure.

Hey, animal scientist here. Just wanted to chime in on the possible bad taste on boars since it's kind of interesting. In industry a lot of times it's called boar taint and doesn't occur in all uncastrated animals, but can be very potent for some people. I say some people because the majority of the population is actually genetically incapable of detecting the chemicals that comprise boar taint. This is also incidentally why back in the day that boars were traditionally used for pepperoni an other strong flavored cured meats as it would mask the flavors. Love the channel, keep up the good work.

The clean kill is the difference in good tasting and bad tasting meat

    • @Spooqi
      @Spooqi 2 роки тому

Exactly. A quick clean kill drops the animal quickly and greatly reduces the amount of adrenaline that pumps through the meat. Always good to see people making these clean kills

    Thanks for sharing this.
Sir, if you know to, you could turn its skin into pork cracklings. You must shave it first, cut it into any size you want, then boil these for 30 mins. at least, with salt, drain, and dry in the sun until it becomes real hard, maybe a couple of days. Then deep fry it. It cooks real fast in high temperature so better not leave it alone.
I hope you'd try it. It's great for snacks. We even use the knuckles for soup.

I was taught when gar fishing when they start taking the bait and taking line let them keep going till they stop moving once they do it mean they have stopped to eat the bait and then you set the hook I do this when gar fishing and it always works

I have smoked enough boston butts and pork shoulders on the traeger and the camp chef to know that your ham was not cooked long enough to pull meat from the ham to have pulled pork. I feel as if you found blood around the bone when you cut down in to it. I cook mine between 225 and 250 degrees for about 10 hours to reach the point of it completely pulling off the bone for pulled pork. You and yours may enjoy sliced pork and that is fine for y"all . Happy fishing and hunting.!!!!

Dang that hog was thick and healthy, he has definitely been eating from someone's feeder he just slipped up and needed a drink you are exactly right if you take care of the meat properly and let it set in cooler for about 3 to 5 days and keep changing the water and ice until the blood is all out and the meat is pink as long as he hasn't been fighting a bunch and breeding most of the time they will not be stank lol

I have had boar hog that wasn't good to me but I know others that could eat it just fine, so maybe it's individual taste? I have also heard that they only taste bad when they are, or recently finished servicing sows, and that in a little while the strong flavor of hormones will go away. I realize that pigs reproduce year round but that doesn't mean it isn't cyclical where the boar can settle between peaks.

I will shoot a big boar and process it just like a sow. Not trying to sound like some pro gar fisherman as I was texting you shot and it made me jump but the gar sometimes you just have to let them go and they will sit somewhere and nibble and finally swallow it and give a little tug if it is still there pull it tight and you know what to do then set it to em and the fight is usually on because they are not like Bass or bluegill but you know what I'm saying thanks for SHARING Brother
