I started homeschooling my son last year due to covid too. I live in Ireland so once we register to homeschool and have an initial meeting to discuss our plans, we are left to our own devices and have no further input from anyone after that. I ended up liking homeschooling more than I thought( although we had many challenges!)so we are continuing with it this year too. This is all great advice. Thanks for the video ❤️
I couldn't agree more! I thought it would be much more of a challenge than something I enjoyed but I was thankfully wrong! That makes me so happy to hear and you'll do awesome momma!
Sending love and hugs momma! I know it weighed heavy on us last year and still some this year. It's not easy sifting through all the ideas and options but I hope you find whatever is that you're most comfortable with!
@@MommaAlia Thank you so much! Seeing as out Governor has now issues our state.. with "State of Emergency" due to covid once again I'm pretty positive we are homeschooling. I'm just not willing to chance my girls health! It's a decision I think I can live with! Can't wait to see your new curriculum choices for the upcoming year!!!
Was so lovely hearing your thoughts Alia. As I keep hearing in homeschooling groups and from experienced homeschool moms is to teach the child in front of you. I believe that has been important to us too because I tend to forget that little nugget of wisdom and worry about a lot of extraneous things. Great video, really enjoyed listening to you !
I just stumbled upon your channel and I needed to watch this. I’ve been wanting to homeschool for a very long time, and I am ready to get on board. Thank you for your honesty!
I love your ideas!!! And I'm totally the same way... I get so so overwhelmed and pressured when I have too much (an entire lesson plan) on my plate! I had a complete light bulb moment literally yesterday all about if I don't need it now, than I don't have to worry about it. I tried my hardest trying to get every single thing organized, that I completely fell out of love with why I started in the first place! Education, inmy opinion is really (really) important!! Thank you so, so, so much. Much love to your fam! X
Yesss! Exactly! That's what I was experiencing too. It sucked a lot of joy out of last year. And the farther we got into the year, the more disorganized it all got because of the constant sorting through the year. I'm so eager and hopeful that this will help avoid that this year and I hope so for you too! Thank you so much for all your support Hannah🥰
When you have to change curriculum, I like to think of it as, well... you're getting to know your children better! The amazing thing about homeschooling is that it is SO personalized to your children - something they can't get at public school. I was using BookShark for Kindergarten and First Grade. Now, (after knowing my children better than any public school teacher ever could) this year I feel more comfortable branching out - we're doing Singapore Math (lots of math games!), Story of the World (also a ton of fun activities), All About Reading, Spectrum Spelling (I don't mind using a workbook for Spelling), and we will be in a co-op doing a Charlotte Mason Science program, Exploring Nature with Children. This year I'm putting in a TON of planning beforehand. It's important to think about what your vision is for your kids' education at home. Love that you are sharing your REAL learning experience with homeschool, would love to see a DITL in the fall or something! ❤
Thank you and I have so much for you! Last year was a time none of us could guess what would be next but we still showed up and did our best for our kiddos regardless. That's everything!
The social media tip can just be applied to motherhood in general! People don't tend to post their rough mornings, or their kid being a sassy pants, or the "hangry" meltdowns. But those are all normal occurances for all of us.
Aw thank you so much! I do! I recently got into gel polish and have slowly been learning how to do them. I have everything I use linked in my Amazon storefront (link to it in the video description) under "momma faves"🥰
I did a very relaxed play preschool with my kiddos last year because of COVID. Now my oldest is kindergarten age so I am looking into more substantial curriculum. Its so overwhelming! I've been majorly procrastinating settling on something. How were you able to sift through all that is out there to find what you liked? I am a christian so I thought that was something I wanted for our curriculum, but I also want the material to be accurate and not white washed. Now I'm not sure. Thanks for your video, it helped me feel a little more relaxed lol.
Totally valid momma! It can be SO overwhelming, especially getting started. As far as the type of the curriculum, that's gonna come down to what feels right to you. Like I mentioned in this video, over 90% of our curriculum is from Teachers Pay Teachers, all of which is secular. I also went that route because I've found more creators on there that are progressive versus traditional curriculum. I've found some really good resources for that this year! Maybe you could pick more progressive curriculum where it feels right in whatever subjects and your faith can be its own dedicated time or included in subjects in ways you see fit? Just trying to brainstorm! I have their curriculum videos filmed and ready to go for next week! So stay tuned and I hope it helps (:
Highlights has fun activities In their magazines, Brain Quest has Language Arts , Have your daughter Sophia do a few of those they have fun cards. Word Girl is visual . Math Cyber Chase . I love the realness of this video lol. Trying homeschool for the first time with my kindergarten son. Thanks for sharing
Always!🥰🖤
I think the off days packs are an amazing idea. I know this video is 1yr old but that is a great idea!!

I love this.. I'm on the verge of trying to decide what's best for my girls this year with school. My husband & I are really considering homeschool.

Yes!! Aw, that makes me so happy to hear! I definitely plan to share some of those videos when we're back in the swing of things(:
I have nothing but admiration. I handled virtual Kinder as well as we could but I would not do this voluntarily.
Virtual for any age or teacher is difficult so i give you props for getting through last year! 👏 all the respect for you!

Aw, thank you so much Melanie!(:

Her name is Sophie(: but I know I talk incredibly fast so it could be me running words together lol! Thank you!!
