  • Today video is showing you how to combat the thick fumes from a DTF printer. I was starting to get headaches and this is probably the best way for my setup

my man had the solution all along! I got excited when you showed all the electrical work at the end. I'm in a townhouse duplex and my 200amps are split between both house so I sit at 100 amps... I can't wait til the day where everything can have its own dedicated circuit.

Rhy, you're definitely smart in adding to your protection. Hey, even if your garage door was open you'd still be at risk without the air cleaners. Good for you and your family's health. Also, wow, so lucky with your Father in Law's skill and help !

When you heat press do you also get fumes. If so do you think something like this would work as well when heat pressing. Thanks

I haven’t noticed any similar fumes when heat-pressing. And yes you definitely use the vacuum extraction for it

Do you have glycol oil issues?

    • @RhyBeats

I do. Just have to be diligent in cleaning before and after

Wait till you start dealing with the liquid that comes from that smoke. That stuff gets absolutely everywhere and your entire floor will be a giant oil slick if you leave those extractors inside, and it's practically impossible to wash out of carpets. That includes under the oven, you'll probably need a large drip tray.
Get yourself an air quality monitor and put it over the oven, to see how much of the fine smoke is still escaping, because it's really hard to see it without a beam of light illuminating it. That HEPA+Carbon combination works well for soldering fumes because that smoke has large particles in it, DTF fumes are much finer, so if you stick a flashlight underneath the filter, you'll still see a lot of fine smoke coming out, and also the oil that's coalescing from the fumes.

You know I was thinking about that the other day. That it will solidify in some sort of liquid or sticky gel. I gotta pay attention to that. Thanks man!

@@RhyBeats Sticky gel would be easy to clean up, unfortunately it will be a clear oil slick, and only a tiny part of it will actually be caught by your filter. The rest will be in a very fine mist that will eventually coat all of your shop in a fine layer of oil, and (MOST IMPORTANTLY), your LUNGS.
Unfortunately, the type of coalescing filters that work with DTF printers, cost more than the printers, and you'll still need to exhaust the rest of the fumes outside. The only difference is that with a coalescing filters, you'll be able to drain the liquid away separately, whereas if you just exhaust all the smoke outside with an exhaust fan, you'll end up with large puddles of this oil residue outside, killing your lawn, unless you send it into a drain (which you probably shouldn't).....
There's a lot that these new DTF companies fail to tell their customers..... The main reason for that being that their Chinese manufacturers straight out lie to them and tell them that "everything's fine, don't worry about it". Gonna be a lot of lawsuits down the line...
Can you imagine an Epson printer making smoke like this, and Epson just tells you to buy a "welding fume extractor" to deal with it??? We have different liability laws in the US, and China's taking full advantage of it.

Yep I just cleaned up that gel at the exhaust . I’ll find a better way to exhaust. Thanks Eugene!

@@RhyBeats Keep in mind, that same oily goo is in the air of your garage as well. Cleaning oily carpets and walls is a pain, but getting permanent lung damage would be a fucking tragedy. Get yourself an air quality meter and you'll be floored at how bad the air actually gets. It's like being in an airport's smoking section (when they used to exist), and seeing every wall covered in a brown film.
Leave a smoke detector on top of the printer and you'll hear it going off pretty regularly.
