    2 amp fuses are a pain in the butt...My old Chevy truck took a 2 amp in the back of the radio but after replacing it a few times I got a different radio that didn't require that damn fuse...Now if you can get the drivers to check that fuse it the head unit goes out it will be a major accomplishment...Have a great day...

    great info on the thermo king unit clay...when i find a blown fuse i like to put my fused amp meter in series in place of the fuse to measure the draw on that circuit at start up and while operating. while doing this i like to inspect and move the wiring harness from one end to the other looking to reproduce the fault. i also look for any shorts / abrasions / or splices in the wiring harness that would cause an over current or short to ground. sorry for the long winded comment but i love electrical problems.

      @KoonTrucking  6 років тому +1

      J.C. SMITH PROJECTS 99% of the time it’s caused by vibration on the controller box fuse. There’s a ton of vibration In the head unit and there is a thermostat similar to a house thermostat and that’s usually the culprit on the fuse being blown. I have had to change no less than a hundred of those rascals. They will usually last about two years then the driver will call and say the head unit is off again. It’s really surprising with all the vibrating and rough roads there isn’t more issues with that circuit board inside the main unit but they are pretty tough.

      i hope that didnt come across as i was saying that is what you should have done...that was not my intention...i just enjoy talking about electrical issues and finding them just as you do. i just wanted to share what i do when i find a blown fuse. my apologies if it came across like that. i agree....if a fuse lasts 2 years and it is that easy of a repair....a new fuse it will be!

      J.C. SMITH PROJECTS oh no I’ve just spent so many hours trying to find out why they have blown before and nothing can ever seem to be traced down as to why other than age ? I don’t bother if one does blow again soon or right away I will go to hunting for them. I guess I should have explained that in the video but with 14 apu units I have learned a bunch of short cuts to them. I didn’t take it as you were trying to tell me how to do it. I just have stressed over finding the issues before and went as far as changing out a head unit and everything else but can never find it. It’s like a phone cable that runs to the control box.

      @@j.c.smithprojects little late on the comment but your absolutely right. No disrespect to clay and not saying he did anything wrong but I would of put a amp clamp of some sort to read to amps. I've never seen a fuse fail on its own especially being inside.

    I hate working on APU units! It's weird you did this video because today I replaced glow plugs and an altinator on one. It's been so cold up here that I figured hell froze over. -43C last week with the wind chill. Lots of guys run APU's and Wabastos. It's good for my service truck though, I was boosting non stop over the holidays.

    Good stuff, I have replaced a ton of those 2amp fuses, the vibration of beating up and down the road under the bunk stresses those small filaments of the fuse. No biggie, swap it and carry on.

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  6 років тому

      Diesel Doctor Matt I have tried to find the reason why. I’ve spent hours looking and never find anything. I’m like you I think it’s the vibration caused them to blow.

    I flip the switch on the actual Apu, and it won't start up. Everything inside the sleeper is working, etc. But the unit outside won't start. It's just using the air that's already in the system to cool the sleeper. Any suggestions as to why the engine/APU won't start?

    I only have one? What made the fuse blow? Two anp I know is enough for the controller but why did it blow? 🤔🤔 Great video thanks I always hated the under the bunk. I had to replace a heater core under one once. I got mad and wanted to throw the bunk board out. Pain in the head every time you bumped it and hard to keep from falling back down and prop up. Thanks for the video see you in the next one

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  6 років тому +3

      Scott Pearson a good prop works great for holding the bunks up. I have no idea but they will blow sometimes. Usually be fine after you replace them.

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  6 років тому +2

      Scott Pearson I have replaced no less than 100 of them. Spent hours looking to never find anything. Even changed it head units. They will last about two years then go out. I think it’s just vibration.

    May be obvious, but it bears repeating...a blown fuse is NEVER the cause of a problem (as was errantly stated in this video). It is a sign that something else is amiss. Further investigation is necessary to uncover the actual cause.

      BIll A I have no clue after a year or so they will blow sometime. I think it has more to do with the vibration breaking the filament vs a wiring issue. There plenty of shaking and vibrating going on under the bunk.

    • @KoonTrucking

      Travis Hunter it could be a broken wire from under the bunk controller to the controller head itself. It may just be a bad controller. If you can check the wires with a ohm meter to make sure they are good. If they are then it’s probably the control head
