As someone from the UK, who lives and works in HK. I can honestly say Hk'ers are some of the friendliest, most hardworking and cleverest people, I have had the pleasure of working with. Fantastic policy from the UK, to offer HK'ers freedom and a choice to make their own lives as they see fit. Hope they are getting a warm welcome in the UK, and settling in nicely to their new homes and futures. Wishing them all the best. Gau yau.

Regardless of the intent of Hong Kongers seeking refuge in the UK and across the West, they are bringing White erasure. Britons are already threatened by antiwhite immigration policy, and this is only making it worse. Though I stand with Hong Kong, Hong Kongers should seek, once they are able to, to migrate to Taiwan (easier said than done, I know) or Singapore rather than occupy the West where they will also suffer collateral damage from White erasure (ie South Asian and African knife gangs, Islamic terrorism, etc.).

I cannot in good faith and conscience continue working in HK, I felt complicit in the city's systematic political suppression, having to pretend everything's fine when even a children's book about sheep is deemed seditious, when people are trialed without jury and by hand-picked judges, some ending up with 10+ years behind bars for a social media post.

It's not quite 1984 yet but it might be in decades or so when its unique functions can be replaced by mainland cities.
HK is an international city for finance, the business interests here are quite strong and they definitely don't want to scare their clients away, so they like to maintain the status quo and avoid anything extra except when it's deemed necessary, e.g. cracking down the protests because it's bad for business. Given the quasi-fascist nature (corporativismo: a heavy government hand in the market and close corporation with the companies in service of the interests of the nation, often at workers' expense; long working hours, few workers' rights or welfare, etc.) of mainland China, it's unlikely they will ignore these business interests and be rough about it with whatever nationalist goals they have in mind, yet, if the difference of the calculation tilted one day, these businessmen just meant nothing to them.

Both Japan and South Korea experienced such a period before and South Korea is still experiencing it. Tell me then, under the so-called neoliberalism order, how could a later coming country without any advantage in capital and talented technicians overcome higher and higher patent barriers and build up high value-added industries, hence becoming genuinely rich? Do you think this can be achieved at no price? Hongkong as a single port may simply prosper from re-export business, but sorry, as a country with 1.4 billion people, there is always a price to pay in this real world to achieve development. The developed countries in this world didn't create an environment for later comers to easily catch up.

That's why we called the exploitive nature of how developed countries do business in developing ones neo-colonialism. Just because something benefits the nation and you don't have much a choice, it doesn't mean it isn't morally questionable for a workers' state selling out the workers for the benefits of the state. It's so harsh, people literally jumped off the roof for it. It's a bit like dealing with the devil, really.

To explain, in china the financial sector and stock market is an absolute shit show, so normal people who dont have insider knowledge cant make any long term money from it. This has resulted in normal people turning to property as a way of long term investing, and this mentality is I think what the HKers have brought over. So what really needs to happen is who ever is helping these people intergrate needs to tell them that the UK has a wealth of financial services and that they do not need to put all their money into property like they do in china.

I am from Hong Kong, born and raised there. I’m now living in the UK, and I’ve been for a year now! Everything went downhill during the end of 2019. I hated it. It was horrifying seeing the horrible protests, bloody faces of those who were hit and attacked, broken windows and police with shields and weapons. I was very traumatized just by watching television, and soon enough we weren’t able to go out during weekends because roads and stops were blocked off because of the protest. The more time went on, the worser it got. In 2020, COVID began, and the protests died down. It had started to stop gradually, but China’s control was never going to end. Things continued to get worser each day. Last year, 2021, August, me and my parents moved to Uk for my education. For my future, we planned to stay here for me to finish high school or university, and I’m hoping to study in Japan for university.
I miss Hong Kong, it’s my home country. I miss when I was young and happy in the streets full of candy shops and markets with bustling people. I believe there’s hope for Hong Kong. Things will change, even if it’s good or bad. Maybe one day, I’ll live in Hong Kong again. Please wait for me, HK!

As a Hongkonger, it was a very difficult decision to leave my home, but I feel like it was the viable only choice left. The Beijing government does not even acknowledge that people have legitimate grievances with them after witnessing a city wide protest, instead choosing to label anyone with a dissenting point of view as unpatriotic, vandals and rioters, or in more honest words, traitors, assigning collective guilt to a vast majority of the population owing the rash actions of a few. I did not ever expect to have to make the UK my new home, but I am relieved that this is a possibility, as I do not want to really wait and see what punishment awaits me for simply speaking my opinion under the new regime, a regime that has been demonstrated to abduct and vanish people that happen to object to them in even the smallest way.

Ah, the recruitment lady 10:18 I watched about her migration story with her family. She's done a very good job to hold her family together when they first moved to UK, while her husband was not as realistic as she. I remember there were a lot of comments said that she had 3 kids to look after (the husband being the 3rd one 🤦🏻‍♀️) Hopefully he has finally grown up!

In that video, the producers explained how the husband is just as hard working (e.g. Doing house chores, connecting with the kids etc.), although he's way more optimistic than the wife. (which kind of shows the couple's opposite personalities balance out, good for the growth of the family tbh)

Back when Hong Kong was still a British Crown Colony many Hong Kongers sent their children to boarding school in the UK to have a British education. These children have grown up in both the UK and Hong Kong and have realised the value of a true British democratic society which upholds their freedoms and rights. Many have been educated here and have now made the UK their home now. It is sad to see how much Hong Kong has changed, democratically, over the past 25 years. Unfortunately those who were born shortly after 1997 do not have the choice to move to the UK.
