- I have been working at Erasmus Kinderziekenhuis for 2 months now, and the time has come for me to have my intensive week learning the Dutch language. I currently work as a Verzorgende (Nurse Assistant) as I obtain a high enough level of Dutch to obtain my BIG Verpleegkundige registration here in the Netherlands. This is part 1. I plan to post part 2 at the end of the week with clips of my progress through the week, and more video of the Institute. This is also an update about how I am acclimating to starting work in a Dutch hospital.
Especially for adults it is important to use Dutch as much as possible from now on. Knowledge gained fast will fade fast if you don't use it daily. I have seen a youtuber from Australia who married a Dutch man and they had an understanding that for three months he was not allowed to talk a single word of English to her when they arrived in the Netherlands. She was fluent within a year. I still find that admirable of her. Message is: Use Dutch from now on as much as possible in your daily life.
Please can you share the youtube channel?

@@ronaldderooij1774 Dank je 😊
Did she speak//know any Dutch already before they moved, though, or none at all?
@@RH-ro3sgI think she knew some Dutch. They traveled together in Australia and Asia for a long time before they moved to the Netherlands.
That's a renkowned institute to learn Dutch ! Great choice to learn the language. Veel Succes.
I "studied" Spanish there for 6 months, but that was 44 years ago. I lived at a 30 minute drive from Vught and went twice a week. Useful? No. First they asked me where I was going and I told them Mexico. Apparently that kind of Spanish was not on their menu. The first day in Mexico I had breakfast and ordered "zumo de naranja". The head waiter had to come over and explained that I wanted "jugo de naranja". Total failure. So I got myself a Mexican girlfriend (later my wife) and learned Mexican Spanish in 3 months. I've been living in Mexico for 43 years now.
(I expect you to understand the above text in a week 😉)
You look fragile, so I'm sending virtual hugs. Yes,. the language is hard, but the culture is a threshold too. It will come, in time. If you had moved within the US from one state to another there would be a learning process too. Getting to know the local memes (like the song Flappy), get a feel for what motivates people and what they deem normal, it is always hard. I think eventually you will be really happy here, but adjusting is a hard process, always. I *am* glad you miss nursing when you see people doing what you want to do. That feeling is universal and will help you a lot getting through the rough parts of moving and adjusting. And your daughter will help too. The Netherlands is very much aimed at family, and I'm convinced she will grow and that will help you adjust too.
Regina Coeli is the best! Geloof in jezelf Diana! It will be a hard but fun week! Good luck and have fun!
break the word into pause ver...pleeg...ster 😌🤫
That is known to be the best place for none Dutch to learn Dutch quickly and at a high level. Good choice
Good luck, its usually older people who don't speak a second language so in a hospital i'd expect being able to talk the native language to a certain level is fairly important but i'm sure you'll fine as there's no better way to learn a language than living in the country were its spoken, it just takes time. Also speak the language as much as you can regardless of the level your at as locals will appreciate that your at least trying to speak their language.
Not to shabby for a convent😀

If the hospital is sending you to the nuns the see you as a nurse. They see that you are more than just an aid.
Veel succes bij de nonnen! Oh ja, les 1: Biertje is ook: pilsje, goudgele rakker, kouwe kletser, gerstenat, pintje… 👍🏻
Ok, de nonnen van Vught! Famous institute indeed!
You are a delight. 😄
It is great that the hospital gave you the chance to go to the nuns. Please from this moment speak Dutch all the time and if people speak English back ask them to use Dutch. In this way you will learn the language. In the library you have language groups. If you still live in the markthal you can go there and see if you can find an langage mate who will speak with you in Dutch. Try it an sucess.
Succes met leren! 😊
I'm sure you'll have a great week. Couldn't have a better place for your language studies. I guess after this week we'll have to comment in Dutch ;o).
Success in your journey learning Dutch....What a beautiful building... So you had a klein biertje, not to many kleine biertjes or you will be talking double dutch soon, haha
Fantastic what you are doing. One tip....don't be to hard on yourself!! You do what you need to do but things take time. Give yourself that time. In one year time you will see a huge difference. But still give yourself time and don't forget to have some fun enjoy the progress. You definitely will get there and try to take things with some humour to. Anyway good luck and keep us posted.
Happy for you that u get this opportunity. Good luck with studying.
I understand that u wanna go back to helping people as a nurse. Maybe good to keep in mind that u are still helping people as a "verzorgende". The small things u do for others can mean a lot.
Wish u the best
Quite the journey you are on. Hang in there, you’re doing really well. ❤ good luck this week and veel plezier!
How brave of you! Veel succes and I am curious to see your progress next time. :-)
Wat is het mooi daar. Smaakvol ingericht.
Hallo, in zo'n instituut wil ik ook weer Nederlands leren, in such an instituut I would like to learn Dutch again. En ik ben Nederlander. Good luck Groetjes.
Wow intensive, you really go for it, i wish you all the luck at learning our language, you will speak fluent Dutch in no time.
By this time next week you'll pick up more rabbit jokes for sure, so don't worry ! Succes met de cursus !
Geweldig!!
What a great opportunity! Love that for you, good luck and enjoy!
