Northern Lights at Icy Strait Point, Alaska, on the MV Royal Princess Cruise Ship Sept 16/17, 2024

Some green came out last night. It was hard to see with the naked eye, but at times you could make it out. My iPhone was able to capture more with its electronic eye and with the help of time-lapse, you can really see the colors dance. The decision was made not to make a shipwide announcement because it was difficult to make out the northern lights other than with the aid of a phone camera. I support this decision.
At night I will sometimes bring out my laser pointer to show passengers planets, stars, and other astronomical sights. You can see the light beam blink at the end of the video.
It is important to know that ALL laser pointers can do eye damage if handled improperly. It is also VERY IMPORTANT not to use them at night if any aircraft or moving ships are in the area. I have a laser pointer onboard because my job requires it and take the use of the laser very seriously. Laser pointers are prohibited from being brought on the ship by passengers.
