    Great video! I have struggled with this trick for a while. Just getting the hang of it now. I'm a big pop shuvit and back 180 guy (my 180s look like yours), and trying to train my muscles to go back to that beginner style back 180 and NOT aim to land on the front trucks (i.e. for pivoting) has been oddly tough. Four things id like to mention:
    - I've noticed that people with good bigspins basically land in fakie, particularly for flatground ones. What I mean is they land rolling backwards with their head and shoulder positioned as such.
    - Miles has his back foot in treflip position. Some people scoop it this way, with others being adamant they can't hang their toes off. There's probably a few things in play as to why Miles board doesn't flip. If you watch his flatground clip, his front foot catches the board and stops it flipping. It's hard to tell, but watching it in super slowmo it looks like the board IS rotating around the kickflip axis slowly. In fact, the board is almost sideways (primo) when he makes contact with it, preventing it from flipping. Also the way you pop is a factor. Me personally, I find most success with popping with toes not hanging off. Maybe when I get better I can play around with it
    - Relating to the last point, I see some pros roll their front ankle for bigspins. Meaning their front leg does the 'dragging' motion i.e. in an ollie or ugly bs 180. Not only does it look cool, it might help to catch the board, and lock in your body into that ugly 180 position. Joe I recommend trying bigspins and rolling your ankle with that ollie-dragging motion, I'd like to know if it helps in any way for you
    - A good tip for popping this trick that helped me was from CoyoteRob, where he says pretend to draw a half-moon on the ground with your back foot when you pop. I interpret this as not pulling your back leg up too quick, kind of let it hang down there and scrape the tail as you pop.

    A tip I can give with big spins is you want to pop your 180 straight up instead of popping your 180 in front of you. Once you can do that practice scooping a pop shuv it till you can do a pop shuvit the same way by popping it straight up. Combine those both and it will make your bigspin easier and cleaner.

    I think of the scoop the same as treflips and back 3s.

    I get what you're saying. what I don't get is Miles' back foot position. He hangs his toes quite a lot for the pop, which can make the board flip sometimes, but that doesn't seem to be a pb for him aha.

    • @SchwappSchwopp
      @SchwappSchwopp 7 місяців тому +1

      you have to push forwards, kinda impossible style, don’t try to scoop like a tre flip

      He keeps his heel down at the point of contact so the board still pops flat

    I don't want to hate on you but you actually misunderstood his bigspin. The reason his bigspin looks like an "ugly" bs 180 is because you catch a tweaked pop shove it with your front foot and the nose (actually tail) tweaked upwards. But he still pops and executes the bigspin like a regular tweaked bs 180 otherwise he couldn't pop it over stuff or down like 15 stairs. You can see what I'm talking about in the catch: Compare his bigspin at 0:41 to yours at 7:00. He catches the shove it before his hips even start to turn 180 while you catch it almost fully turned. It's impossible to catch the shove it before turning if you do it like an ugly bs 180. Your weight has to be on your front foot when you catch the board and start turning. That's also the reason why he doesn't travel toe side. The key to a proper bigspin is to execute the turn in the shoulders and hips excatly like a tweaked bs 180 while doing a pop shove it. That way you catch the pop shove it at the moment you would start to turn your tweaked bs 180 (around 45 degrees). It doesn't matter that the board tweaks in the opposite way it still sticks to your feet. You turn 180 with the shoulders and the hips not with your feet. But you have to scoop slightly more than a regular pop shove it otherwise it's hard to turn full 180. I really encourage you to try it that way and see if you'll get a higher, more controlled bigspin. Btw english is not my first language so it's kinda hard to put in words.

    If you can't skate to that level you're just going to end up confusing everyone because you don't know what it feels like to be on point on your skateboard. There's subtleties going on that you cannot see but the skilled skater can feel. I know because I know thousands of tricks and can do them all consistently.

    yeah dude it looks like a back 180 that's so cool! I could probably get a free bs big spin on flatground but I respect it because I feel like board will shoot out if I'm just messing about with it. I should get good ones! for me, with pop shuvits I like to scrape the tail before the pop. POP it sideways if you prefer, it should do the trick, but also wind up your arms or coil your shoulder, these are not nuances, but key points. flips can occur if you hold foot down a second longer, hence 'pressure' flips... as for me, i keep back foot stompin kickflips and breakin' boards so boardless, but I can throw it down a ledge now lol. ordered a blank board with clear grip and they actually sent me a banana yellow top ply, its not my week. spray painted it a darker color to grip tomorrow. @localjoe
