Thanks for taking another Journey with us Across the Plains! YOU are an ambassador of the hobby, make sure you make the hobby look good and practice making the "Perfect" Plug!
Excellent information. I take pride in making it extremely difficult for anyone to tell that I've detected there. I tend to make a big plug for two reasons. Its harder for it to dry out and its harder for small animals to flip them up. When I first started, I was detecting my yard. About a dozen of my plugs were flipped out the next morning by a critter I'm guessing a skunk. Thanks for sharing, good luck, happy hunting and take care.
Thanks Shawn! Absolutely right about the critters. I've found 6x6 is a great way to go, but as long as you can keep the plug together and hidden, absolutely nothing wrong with it!
Well sead Tom, I normally don't use my shovel during summer, I only pop modern coins and stuff that's only a few inches down... unfortunately I've been in lockdown all winter so summer is coming up here in Australia , for instance today is 30 degrees Celsius which is around 85 degrees in your terms lol , GO THE MATEIC SYSTEM LOL... but your right don't dig deep plugs where it's bone dry, thanks for sharing mate ATB GL&HH Jim.
Thanks for watching Jim! I'd take any australian coin any day lol! But really, I'm hoping this reaches new people to the hobby so they can help keep the hobby going for years to come
Definitely a great way to go, I like making a little more round version because it's harder for me to mess up the corners, if I can see where I've been it really bugs me.
I'm new to detecting and I watched lots of videos on how to dig a good plug. But some of mine were getting brown after a few days. Your the 1st one(at least from the ones I've seen) that says if its dry it doesn't matter how you dig plugs.. they are gonna turn brown. thanks for making this video and helping out a newbie!!

Great information for new detectorist
Thanks Jamie!
Great info video. I cut my plugs exactly this way. I always worry about the dead spots I leave during dry weather. Thanks for sharing. *Chris*
Thanks Chris! I'm hoping this video reaches enough people to help the image of our hobby!

Lol true that Reed! I like digging in pastures and fields for that exact reason!
