I had the original Metalhead figure before his cartoon debut and thought just like the Super7 guy did. My 7 year old imagination saw him as the 5th Turtle, so the cartoon portrayal felt like a totally different character. What a time to be alive when both versions are available in modern toy form!
My Metalhead is not that loose. I love your TMNT reviews. I finally caved and subbed after I caught myself rewatching your reviews for a second or third time.
I don't know why, but I had this idea of Metalhead being bigger than the Turtles. But then I went back and looked at some clips of Turtles in Time on UA-cam, and he's actually around the same height as the Turtles.
Great review! I agree on the legs--those calves being so bulbous really make his whole leg feel like a tree trunk. I wish they would have read between the lines a bit more on other aspects of his design, too. I'm pretty sure his neck was only gold on the original because it was all one vac-metal piece--the design itself seems to imply that just the shell should be gold, and his neck and collarbone area could have been gray like the rest of his body. Just nitpicks, though--the figure overall looks great! And the legs on mine aren't loose, luckily.
You’re lucky! It seems like some people just get unlucky. I remember some Raph’s were pretty loose for people right out of the box. Mine was pretty good so I didn’t know how bad it could be. Now mines become more loose over time.
I've got the same leg issue. He gives me anxiety since my initial Foot Soldier broke both arms off pretty easily...so I'm really not messing around with his legs too much. Got him posed, and he is probably going to be staying that way for the long term.
My Foot Soldier arm had that problem. I accidentally creased it so I’ve been extra careful so I wouldn’t break it. I never made a review of him because I was waiting to get a second foot soldier I preordered from my comic store, but then my preorder got cancelled and now I’m waiting for bbts to get more in stock.
Promo images for this figure made me start collecting. Thanks for reviewing all those details! I'm actually a little disappointed in the eye glowing feature, as the playmates light piping is far superior. S7 just made the base plastic translucent and painted over it. When I shine light at it paint gaps are illuminated. I do understand the lack of vac metal but I feel like the 2 biggest gimmicks of the playmates toy were cheapened in this new figure. But I do echo your sentiment that as many nitpicks as can be made this is still a great figure!
Seeing as i'm probably not going to find a Neca Metalhead I've debated grabbing this. The way the brain allows light into the eyes is cool I get why they didn't have it chromed out like the original. That chrome or any of the 80s and 90s chrome is worn out.
I think your critique is 100% justified, the shoes/feet for me are just as bad if not worse than the proportions on the biceps. If all the things they could change they decided to make flimsy wires limit the knees...
I'm from Europe and was always oblivious to the fact that Metalhead's hand could be swapped with the robo-nunchuk (I think the feature wasn't brought up in the European cardback). Learned about that a lot later. Same thing with the backback, I always thought it was for serious business only, not for video games and sodas!
Yeah I didn’t know about the fun stuff either. It was written on the card here, but I was probably too young to read or pay attention to it. Did the robo chucks have a different name there? They probably censored it.
@@razrentals8897 that would be interesting to know! Gotta keep an eye open for an European card for Metalhead to check that. The first wave of figres had the weapon lists completely dropped off the bio cards over here, but from Metalhead's wave and onward those were included as well. I came across the Rappin' Mike cardback, and the word nunchuku was present, so at least in some cases the chucks slipped on through!
I always found the vac metal to be somewhat glaring. The new paint app is much softer but I wonder why they didn’t go all out and paint the details on the front of the torso? Too intricate maybe? Anyways, awesome video and an awesome figure!
That would have been awesome. They could have painted them to look like glowing lights and what not or like separate pieces of metal on top. They probably wanted to keep it all uniform because that’s what most people think when they think metalhead. If someone made a movie custom figure they could paint all those details to make him look more real.
I'm sure part of the reason for not using vac metal was because it flakes off. It's funny (and tragic) how the paint they used comes off easily too. Just because of issues like that, this is the weakest of the wave to me. April was surprisingly satisfying.
@@razrentals8897 it's the proportions and cartoon head sculpt that do it for me. She works as both a Playmates tribute and a cartoon version. Then they gave her more accessories than any other figure.
@@benjaminwiseman6567 the newer head is really great. I’m sure there has to be someone who will display her with the 88 head, but I don’t know why haha. I should have my April review up in two days.
You need to return that one. Mine is super tight so you def got a dud. Hope you get that sorted. Also hope you do a walkthrough of Wave 6 now that it’s been revealed.
Man I’m glad to hear not all of them have that leg problem. Wave 6 looks amazing. I don’t know if I’ll be able to explain wave 6 like I did 5 when it was announced just because of time. It looks amazing though, I love how awesome the weapons racks are becoming. Sewer Mikey and Ace Duck have really awesome and inventive racks. Just every figure looks fantastic. Mikey and Slash are probably my favorites. I love the new Ace Duck head. They really stepped things up with wave 5 and 6. I think it’s because waves 1-4 have a lot of the 1988 figures which were more subdued than the later releases. I don’t have Scratch so I’ll have to use shots of him from tmnttoys to make my comparison haha. I remember thinking he was expensive when he was $300. Have you seen his price lately? It’s crazy!
@@razrentals8897 Agreed and Scratch is the primary reason I never started collecting the vintage line. I knew I could never pay for him and so m at others now are just through the roof. This line has allowed me to go back without having to drop so much money. I can’t wait to see Chrome Dome or Krangs Android body. I think there are even greater waves coming which is nuts considering how awesome 5 & 6 are.
@@jamievaughn1485 Krang’s body will be huge. I need to measure the original and figure out how big the super7 one will be haha. I’m glad Slash looks larger than the guys. I was hoping they wouldn’t make him shorter like the original. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Tokka. Reuse the Slash body or make something new. I hope wave 7 has Scumbug and I’d love to see Hothead!
@@razrentals8897 That Ultimates Slash is so amazing! I'm hoping he'll be a bit taller for the final figure, though--even though he's much bulkier, the promo images (which are just 3D renders composited in Photoshop, so probably not totally accurate) make him seem only a little taller than the turtles. HIs original card said he was 6', so I'm hoping he'll be closer to Shredder's height. I think that'd be perfect! The shortness of the original figure was a huge pet peeve of mine.
Darn, that’s something I should definitely keep in mind in the future. I probably didn’t show muck man next to them either, but it’d be cool to have that giant trash battle the much smaller 88 turtles.
I’m ok with it not being vac metal. I just wanted him to be bigger like he was in the arcade game. Also the alternate head could’ve been different & his weapons aren’t painted that great. I know the originals were all green but they could’ve added more colors. I’m very disappointed with the quality of this wave
I feel like this is the perfect size. I’ve played tmnt turtles in time n metalhead is right there with the same height as the turtles . Unless your talking about another arcade game. If that’s the case my bad 😅
Would you say Rocksteady is better than Metalhead? Rocksteady is like $40 rn and Metalhead is $43. Would like to get Rocksteady, but Bebop is up there in price. One of these would actually be my first Super7 figure.
No he’s pretty easy to collect. Turtle bot is probably the most obscure so getting one complete can be tricky. I just bought mine solo without weapons.
I would probably bat for Super7 every time just because I prefer the original toys over the cartoon, but I do agree some of their figures have faults. It seems like everybody has been really happy with Muckman. I would also pick Mutagen Man, Bebop, Slash, and Baxter as for sure winners at Super7. With Neca I’d probably pick Shredder, Rocksteady, and Leatherhead.
Man, this makes me appreciate the paint apps on the old MH so much. I’d never really noticed how great they were until watching this.
I never noticed when I was a kid that metalhead is essentially the yellow ninja turtle!
