It's going to have huge numbers because of the first film but that shouldn't be counted towards it's ability to stand as a film. It's likely to lose something without the Maitlands, which contrary to the antics of the title character, were the true focus of the film. . . there's little interest to be had without them or a new surrogate to represent them. And Lydia coming back without any significant changes or character growth is quite depressing, no? Apparently, they didn't have much of an impact on her life. It also doesn't help that Ortega has quite a few problems in the public spotlight and behind the scenes... she's still quite young for an actress and not as mature as her talent is.

This was the first movie, the first thing I went to do, while on unsupervised liberty after graduating Navy boot camp in Orlando Florida (in the beginning of June 1988). It holds a special place in my heart because of that. Please, Hollywood, don't screw this movie up.
