From what he said in the video I believe you can’t do this. Ours in the EU use the Linbus system and the us wiring loom he has uses a 2 relay system. He’s basically trying to take the signals from his relays in the loom to convert them into a linbus signal so the wiper motor he has for the the caddy will work. I’m guessing non of the US wiper motors would have worked with the caddy shape.
This is correct ; all Caddy Van use the LINbus system, but the USA chassis harness uses Relays. I could fit the full Caddy harness (I have two here) but then I would need to retrofit the full engine, emissions, and airbag systems to the USA style. I decided it was easier to make the wipers work on their own, than do that. But I still haven’t found the time :-)
@@JamieOrr the arduino way was a good solution too:) u can even make it whit a rain sensor if u program it right but u still need a switch for the legit right? here in the netherlands it is

So cool, after all the wiring and programming work you had to do it makes me feel like my 40 year old AC install should be a piece of cake in comparison, great job and good luck registering it
Lol, I've been frustrated trying to make the wipers on my car work but it's nothing compared to your wiper frustrations! Basically, one of the previous owners of my car had it repainted (it's a mid-sixties car, and repaints were common back in the day), and whoever repainted it did a terrible job and painted over the wiper spindles. This made the spindles larger, which made it harder to put the wipers on, so the painter reinstalled them with a HAMMER. This broke a little aluminum triangle that holds the wiper in the correct position, causing the wiper to not work properly. Of course, nobody makes reproductions of that part because you'd have to be an idiot to actually damage it, so I had to figure out a way to JB weld it back together. But now I have a little proud smile every time I use my wipers :)
I will take my hat off for you..!! I'm totally understanding why you did/doing it.. iwe done something similar (but a lot easier) in the -90-is Citroën (French car manufacturer) build the Citroën BX 16 valve "sporty" hatchback.. I wanted that car, but as an estate/wagon.. they never built it.. so a few years later when the cars here in Sweden started to be sheeper I bought a 16v hatch and a wagon.. took about a year to clone them together.. a lot of people said that you will never get the spoiler kit off the hatch without braking it, because the plastic kit was glued on to the car.. but I cut all parts out with a grinder and tiger saw, take the sheetmetal of, piece bye piece.. so after about 12 months it was ready for paint.. then it was time for the electric system, in the -90's in France they must have a big "sell out" on green and yellow cables... and I suppose that Citroën buy it all, because the whole electronic system was made of green and yellow cables.. took a couple of months to sort everything out.. but I did. Then the interior went in, I took everything from the hatch.. soo after about 2 years I went to the car inspection and get a total clean paper.. that summer I went to a lot of car meetings, was interviewed bye the Citroën owners info/newspaper.. the last thing the guy asked me was.. why? I answered..!! Because I could, and I get more excited when people on internet telling me that I never gonna get it fixed.. So even today iwe got the car Citroën newer made in my garage.. A Caddy maxi in USA is rare, keep it clean and take care. It's a really common car here in Europe, but a neck twister I USA.. 😎👍
Putting a raw caddy in a moving car is a bogus job. German engineers art. But I saw you had a white Mk3 Fiesta, these are my toys. You have my full respect for the work you have done. I'm crazy too and build cars from scratch. Greetings from crazy Germany.
Jamie, have you ever looked into the hood latch switch? This is tied into to the wiper system through the LIN-bus and if you didn't setup a hood latch switch on this vehicle given how you have built it, or you did include it but it's currently switched to "open", the wipers won't work. Check into it!
Wow! This is so cool! Why a Caddy? Why not! Man i love to watch stuff like this! And if u in a crazy way back in the time said to me strip a caddy and send me every cable and bolt i would done it haha. Good luck with the car. Greetings from Sweden 👍

99.8% has been done myself with VCDS though.
Surely the sensible thing would have been to break/bag/tag a European caddy and export the bits to the USA and rebuild it into your shell?
That was the plan originally, but...then things got out of hand, and now everything in the car is brand new, haha.
Jamie Orr 🤦🏽♂️
@@JamieOrr still the caddy is pretty cheap in the EU so it seems that it would be cheaper to buy a brand new one and ship it in parts? Any way, you do what you do, sometimes you invest too much at an early stage ang just have to commit and follow through.

Sick caddy!!! Lve all the way from South Africa
Thanks! Hello to SA!
Love it Jamie , cant wait to see it in person
Very cool project! As a german I thought it‘s just a rebuild of a Caddy :D but basically, you biult this complete Caddy by yourself from 0 to 100^^
Thank you!
I've been following since day one on instagram when you got the chassis inside the container to SEMA unveiling that was just mindblowing for me that what was just amazing for me someday this 'THING' should go to worthersee and the nordshleife keep the amazing work going Jamie Cheers !
Thank you!!!!!!!!
German engineering at its finest, great job!
I have to say that your Caddy is the coolest i´ve ever seen!
I have the upmost respect for your build!! This is verry impressive!
Awesome project Jamie!!!! Congratulations
Thank you!
I just bought a 1.6 tdi mk3 already lowered , and then added my own touches , and had it remapped, and kitted out as a mini camper.....nice work though, if a bit technical for most ......even a qualified mechanic. 👍🇮🇲
Thank you ! Can be a bit of a hassle but worth it ❤️
You're amazing. God you spent tons of time. Congrats man... I own a 2007 caddy btw... It's in my opinion the best European small van, having worked on peugeots and Citroens, they're nothing alike... They really are like lego, but quality and we'll built legos! Lots of aluminum and sheet steel welded control arms instead of the cheap stamped steel ones you see everyday on french cars. Gotta love VW!!!
How much work? IT DOES NOT MATTER BECAUSE YOU BUILT IT!!! I LOOOVEEEE THIS. I admit that I own my 2nd going on to my 3rd VW, but I love this.
Hahaha, thanks!
Dayum this Caddy is one of the coolest out there!
Maybe with your experience you can start a company that do Caddy’s in USA
This is so lunatic. It's like Lego Technik where you get all the pieces and build everything yourself but without the manual 😂.Big Respect💪.
As a fellow Scottish caddy owner, I cant wait to see the Americans reaction to the Caddy at a car show!!
Nice! And thanks, me too!
dude realy, go buy the windshield wiper in EU from that Era of caddy and ur problem is solved! if u cannot find it send me a PM with all the car info and dimensions of the mounting position and ill find it out(im a mechanic in the netherlands!)
im sure theres a possibility !!
PS awesome caddy :)
greets,
From what he said in the video I believe you can’t do this.
But I still haven’t found the time :-)
@@JamieOrr the arduino way was a good solution too:) u can even make it whit a rain sensor if u program it right but u still need a switch for the legit right? here in the netherlands it is
This was such an interesting video, good luck getting it registered in the US Jamie!
Amazing, this is the only word that I can say to this project, congratulations
This is insane. Subscribed to follow this build. So impressive.
Well done Jamie. I can believe you when you say it was a pain to build. I am sure if you had the manufacturer back up it would have gone way smooth. It's a pity that VW did not see potential in sponsoring your journey. Well done for taking on the Challange. Can't wait for your future video. Keep it up!
Awsome work, keep it up ! Cheers from a German VDub worker from Wolfsburg. Btw got a Caddy too :D
Imagine building an entire van by yourself lmao this is so great! Incredible job man
This is one of the coolest caddy's i've seen! That color, omg! Here in Holland they are pretty common, even in the modified carscene.
Im on my second caddy here in the uk and theyre awesome.many mk5 gti engine conversions happening here too.
Very cool! The UK Caddy scene does seem to be awesome!
Most excellent job so far, best of luck to complete this project.
Thank you very much!
Great story & project. SUBSCRIBED!
My head hurts just watching this lol but that is awesome! I would love a caddy van
Thank you!
You and me both, haha!
Here in the UK the gas company drive around in them, you find loads of people buy them and customise them as they are cheap.
Definitely, the bright blue British Gas ones, haha! They're cool (or at least I think they are, haha).
@@JamieOrr when you lower , repaint and remove the speed limiter.
Then a quick trip to "Darkside Development" for a few extra horse's.
I'm sure some one has done an R32 swap on one or a 4motion .
Pure madness this project, luv it!
Your citi golf and this caddy , my favorite of your collection 🔥🔥
Thank you!! Nice choices :-)
This is an amazing project being built by an incredible VW nerd.
Thank you!!
Love this thing !!!!
This would make a super cool camper
Indeed!
Thank you so much!
What an awesome project. Sehr schönes Auto
Love the color, in the Netherlands we got it on a mk3 polo g40
Correct!! Violet Touch Pearl Effect :-)
From the Polo, the Corrado, and Golf GTI mk7 and Golf R m7 (maybe others too?).
