A technical explanation would probably be awesome. My initial thought is, the pre-amp is an operational amplifier. Such an amplifier can only amplify voltages up to its own power supply voltage. The knob probably encodes different voltages for the power supply and know they could raise the max voltage via software. When its pulse-width modulated simply make the pulses wider.
What the heck "Your AI-1 is running firmware version 1.3.0 - 1.3.0 is the latest version." .... 🤔🤔 UPDATE: On both Mac & Windows the old "AI-1 Audio Interface Firmware Updater" maxes out the firmware at 1.3.0..... You NEED Rode Central to get to this update (1.3.1) ANOTHER UPDATE: Rode Central would insta crash on my Windows PC when the AI-1 was connected. Had to update it on Mac (no issues there)
Hello, I have a small question for you. I'm going to buy myself a new studio headset and the brands that come to my mind are; Among AKG K-371, Beyerdynamic DT770 and Audio Technica M50X, I will prefer to buy AKG K-371 32 ohm. So, what would you recommend as a sound card? I will use these devices for Mixing-Mastering and for the Phonk/Trap music genre, including the Rode NT-1 microphone. × Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Gen 3 × Audient ID14 MKII × Steinberg UR22 MK2 × Rode Al-1 I'm currently undecided, can you help me?
Would you recommend this older single-channel interface over others like the brand new Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen 4 or even the Focusrite Vocaster One? Lmk please!
Important message about the firmware, if you have Firmware 1.3.0 you don't have to update it. it's the latests update. Here is a quote from an email I got from Rode: I can confirm that they're the same version, but for whatever reason that we're working on in the back end, it's showing 1.3.1 instead. I can confirm there is no real update, you won't need to worry, the AI-1 is working fine. Kind Regards, Gavin RØDE Service and Support
on a mac, waht's a good tool to see/measure the gain? i tried several tools .. adobe audacity, OBS, garageband, others.. but i cant find one where i can clearly see the gain like it's shown her in this video ..
Shame I can't update it. I've tried latest Rode Central and older version, same issue it closes, Central after I click update, my pc don't detect the Ai-1, so have to unplug it, plug it in. Good news is I don't brick it. I'm on Windows 11. Others have reported the same problem. But someone on Reddit said it works on Mac Os. So this is a workaround if you have a Mac too. I don't. It seems to be a Windows issue.
Update: I've tried to install latest Rode Central, it did not help with installing the new Firmware, nor did updating windows 11 to latest build, latest updates. And still get issues almost every time I reboot the PC, Ai-1 is not detected. so have to unplug it, and plug it in.I've read it works on Windows 11 & Mac OS.
@@kaizeroff I fixed the issue with reboot, I installed the Asio driver. But still can't install the firmware. Rode Central closes when I click update.

So basically the firmware installer shows correct firmware, that I have the latest firmware, but Rode Central does not. So I already have the latest firmware, but the firmware update in Central is not really an update but the same firmware. Actually there was an update to Central but it did not have a fix for this. @@kaizeroff
I'm guessing there was some form of attenuation on board that they were able to remove, or maybe add +15dB boost like a fader that goes +15dB above unity? I'm not 100% sure how it works. It would be super interesting if Rode released a video discussing it.
Damn, can’t believe the technology went so far these days. Hopefully we’ll be able do download RAM by next year!
Heck RAM. I'm looking forward to downloading a car.
@@Podcastage2 surely you wouldn't download a car :O
Holy shit!! Are you for real? That's awesome! I used to have this but that's super cool that it upgraded like this.
agreed
So glad you posted this! Thank you!
Ive always loved the size and look of this interface.....tempted to get one even though I have no need for it
Let me know if you want to borrow one . . . peace

Does this interface make more sense now if I want to buy a Røde podmic?
I wonder what they did.. How it's built so that can be done.
was wondering if m-audio mtrack solo had an update so you can record 24bit. if yes can u do a video on that?
Nice!

the "Deuce"...
Rode being absolutely based as always
How is this possible? Now I wonder if I can increase the gain I have from my Audient ID4 Mark II

Most likely they just fixed a firmware bug.
How much gain did it have before the firmware update?
45db
But... How?! This is like being able to download more RAM to your PC lol. Regardless thanks for the PSA Bandrew!
