- Ben Hogan, one of the best golf players in the history of golf. You will improve your game learning from him, This video is a modest tribute to Mr. Hogan and to my father, He filmed Mr. Hogan in Mexico 1953. I hope it will inspire your golf swing. Please rate the video.
My goal is to play golf like Ben Hogan; so far, after five years, I've got the hat and I've got the cigarette.
Rhythm, effortlessness, power. In total: pure elegance. No one can top Ben Hogan. Thanks for uploading!!
The greatest swinger of a golf club,probably... If only belly putters had been around then? It's a joy to watch, best example of his fluidity I've seen, great job
God bless you for sharing this. Great footage. I brought my golf teacher, who knew and played with Hogan, to the PC to watch this, and the beauty of it brought tears to his eyes. He said this was shot during the time when Hogan's swing was at its prime, and that he was not altering his swing for the camera to mislead as he often did.
very interesting...how do you know he would alter his swing to mislead others when on camera..........
How did he know that he wasn't altering his swing to mislead? Did Hogan tell him that he wasn't?
I will never EVER get tired of seeing this film (and the longer version you first posted to YT). Just outstanding--uno de los mas mejor que ha visto en toda mi vida. Muchisimas gracias, amigo!
The clarity is the best i've seen... priceless :) Thank-You!!
I've seen some very fluid swings, but this....... this is absolute perfection executed with ease.
I love the jazz or perhaps "the swing" in Hogan's swing and of course the cig. is a must. Good on ya, old son!
My boy was in stellar shape!!!
Thanks for posting a great video.
Thank you a lot for this video. The resolution is fantastic and that allowed me to confirm many of my studies.
I noticed that Hogan sometimes had an open club face at the top. Watch the angles at about 1:40 or at 1:56. If you stop you'll see the toe pointing down, but the left arm is pretty flat! Inpossible, only Hogan could maintain such a position and hit so easily!!
holy crap, how good it that swing, what like 60 years ago! WAY ahead of his time, imagine this guy with modern equipment etc, forget 18 majors were talking 30 plus majors, if he putts well ofcourse.
NOT ahead of his time. His time was SUPERIOR to ours. We're behind his time. Reject the myth of progress.
Ben Hogan is my new fav golfer!
Enjoyed that very much. Probably improved my HC by a stroke or two just from watching it once.
Thanks for the upload. Great video of a great legend. Admire his swing, his rhythm and tempo. Word of advise, don't try to imitate his swing. Hogan was a natural lefty. He had to learn to swing as a right handed golfer and had a terrible hook. This is the swing that he came up with to fix that hook. It is fading swing for him. Most of us right-handed golfer are already slicing it. If you copy him. you'll probably exacerbate your slice even more.
John Erickson and Bradley Hughes disagree.
@@DavidNums As do Tom Saguto and Rob Cheney.
that's the funniest thing i've read on the internet for a long long time....cheers :)
Awesome ..... What a swing ...
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing.
Poetry in motion!
I've hear that song so many times now I love it lol
This man had more CLASS and talent in his right pinkie, than the anger/spoiled/tantrum/babied/punks that fill the PGA tour of today. Go read and learn about this Legend. a REAL Man, a success in many fields and a work ethic like no other,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and he did it without all the crap todays PGA punks seem to need to just get on the tee ever week.
Yes indeed. Well said.
I love reading the comments for this video. The phrase paralysis by analysis comes to mind. And yes, I suffer from that affliction.
The best counter-intuitive swing in the history of golf. No wonder he kept it a secret :)
Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. DT
beautiful swing
Thanks to Pepe Cano we have this to look at. Super Great Film of The Best Player of his time. 20 years 1940 to 1960 " U S Open " Hogan never finished out of the top 10 ! Thank You. I think he won this tournament " Pan American " 1953 Mexico City. I know he won the Masters, U S Open and British Open the year this film was taken. Carl Welty
Hogan mastered the perfect grip. This was the secret. Right hand over on top, with V pointing directly at his chin.....not the right shoulder.
Very nice video, Thank you
Great job
Wonderful.
Is that cigarette a golf aid? Keep it pointed at the ball and rotate your shoulder under it type thing? Seriously, Ben Hogan's swing is truly inspirational.
Jefferson Smith I think the cigarette is his personal style for relaxation, calmness and confidence.
At that time Mr. Hogan used to smoke when whas practising.
Great idea + ensuring your left shoulder goes under your chin. How the left arm avoids the ciggy. Plus im certain it helps reduce tension otherwise he'd snap it.
Im going to seriously do this but with a long tee.
excellent observation.
This video shows better that any other video just what Hogan's secret was and you don't need to look any further than his grip to see this. When he reached his best he was cupped at the top, but he was also in a shallower position. If a player actively hinges their wrists, though the wrists will be cupped at the top, they will be in steeper position. I don't think he had discovered his secret in the first video but he clearly had in this video.
Great music!
In the slow mo you can clearly see how Hogan only slightly straightens his right leg in the take-away and then seems to suddenly straighten the leg. And this is caused by the way he applies pressure on the ground when the right arm flexes back, after he has fully extended his arms in the take-away
Bet this guy was a good dancer. 🕺
Visual poetry.
Great choice of music.
Perfection.
Cool
wow! thanks a lot.
Probably the best Slo-Mo of Mr. Hogan in his Banner Year, 1953. ...I've thanked you before for this great footage, but not nearly enough! ...DrDom, Golf Nucleus. com, founder of Hogan's Cube.
I'm not seeing the arms squeezed together, as taught in Five Lessons. Explain.
The down swing looks like a two step movement - first driving the legs then turning the hips
Mr Ben Hogan knew perfectly a muscular point of view this is why he was able to reproduce his swing under pressure a
What you see here is a classic swing, taught best by Mike Austin, with a weak looking grip and a setup adjustment (that was Hogan's "little trick"). Pure magic to watch.
@thatwilldonicely
Definitely, absolutely, positively. Depends on what problems and what situations you bring to the swing--your build, your inclinations, where your natural plane is, what your relative strengths are, what your trained-in tendencies are, on and on.
yeah you're right...
Que ca semble facile quand c'est aussi parfait...
@Dreama40 Yes. Even in his time he could win more than 20. Tommy Bolt said that if Hogan had been able to putt 25% as Palmer did he would have won 50 more tournaments.
The artist: is Robert Pregadio.,Country Piano.
Pepe, I spoke with you must have 6 or 7 years ago about using your film. You said it was ok if I give you Dad credit. Here is my project. I would love to send it to you. You can contact me billyedmartin@gmail.com. ua-cam.com/video/Lyd6bFhC-T0/v-deo.html
aha, another piece of the puzzle found! The left arm and shoulder stay just under the cigarette holder.
I would like to see at least a couple of those swings at full speed.
The cigarette is a training aid. Get that shoulder under the cigarette.
Nice video showing Ben Hogan's swing, but the music is incongruous to the video.
@KnockOut22 Artist:Robert Pregadio,Country Piano
Slice the cheese, over the top....perfect!
He practised 8 hours a day! Everyone does that now!
Looks pretty effortless on his part.
@TatarInExile
That's the funniest thing I've read in about a year, and I'm funnier than ANYbody, dammit.
So much praise for a dead man is normal but Ben was not all that great as a person to people outside his inner circle. For one he "cursed like a truck driver" according to Jody Vasquez who shagged balls for him for many years and wrote "Afternoons with Mr. Hogan".
There also is the story Johnny Miller tells where JM , playing in his first US Open as an amateur, spotted Hogan eating lunch and walked up to him and introduced himself and told Hogan how he admired him and what a pleasure it was to meet him. To which Hogan , after taking a sip of his soup , replied snobbishly " kid can't you see I'm eating my soup".
I won't get into the story about what he did to Gary Player because it's too long but there is a video of Gary explaining it here on YT somewhere. It was vintage Hogan.
Great respect for Mr. Hogan as a legend of golf but much disappointment in his character outside the ropes.
He did not suffer fools easily. He grew up hard, very poor, watched his dad kill himself, and he was a man of discipline. While what you say is fact, also note he had some very good, loyal friends in life.
As for Hogans swing ! That is a dance move not a swing . Poetry in motion !!!
By 'step by step' you just mean, a 'slowed down video'.
Great music!
