I like the way he plays especially the 2nd one; it's fun to watch him! What's interesting is -- despite the choppiness of texture, he still manages to bring out a very pleasing tone and melody. Also, the way he plays it really underscores the humor found in the writing! Ah, that clever Alkan!
*Op. 41, Trois petites fantaisies (1857); Charles-Valentin Alkan (1813-1888)* No.1 Assez gravement in A minor ( 0:06 - 5:20 ) No.2 Andantino in G major ( 5:25 - 10:42 ) No.3 Presto in B-flat major ( 10:44 - 17:17 )
I have the recording of José López playing the Alkan/Mozart transcriptions, but I can't find any CD of him playing these wonderful Opus 41 fantasies. Has anyone out there seen these on a recording?
I don’t think Mr. Lopez has recorded these Fantaisies onto a CD yet. I hope he records another Alkan CD - both his Fantaisies and Symphony deserve to be put on CD. Also Nocturne Op. 22, which he also plays beautifully on YT
Great to see video of these three pieces, and played very well. I've always been a fan of them, especially the third.
3rd is my favorite too! but all of the 3 are gems.
12:21 ff What a magical decrescendo! Bravo!

Only one audience member and it’s the guy’s identical twin brother?
Er, so is this José Lopez or Stephen Wolfram (see below)? Thanks for posting anyway; Alkan is always infuriatingly and often pointlessly provocative!
