How To Defend A 1v1 In Football | Learn With The 3 P’s!

- Defend a 1v1 by following the 3 P's rule - Pressure, Positioning and Patience. Where most players go wrong when defending a 1v1 in soccer is 'diving in' - in other words rushing into the challenge too quickly. Follow these defensive football training steps and make it difficult for any player to ever get past you!
This stuff actually worked I use it to 1v1 my friend since I sucked at 1v1 situations
Very pleased to hear the video helped you and thank you for feedback 👊

I played as a Right Back in my Academy, and it this video has improve my ability to defend well against attackers. Great video mate👍🏿
Thank you mate and delighted to hear it has helped you in some way. Keep pushing on 👊
Good effort buddy and props for trying to break down what seems like a basic enough thing, but is in a fact a highly technical and fluid action: defending a 1 v 1. However I have two points to make. 1) You say to close the distance to 'about a yard' but that should (imho) be to what we used to call 'touch tight'. You close the distance steadily and try to make contact using an outstretched arm (touch-tight). Then you can influence the opponent's movement and balance and adjust yours to match or counter it and to help make the tackle and to recover if it fails. 2) Your body position from 2:12- 2:50 would be better reversed against this opponent. They are right-footed and you are showing them the easier side for their preferred foot. Granted, you might be showing them the outside but if you reversed you are taking their right-foot away from them and forcing them too wide to hurt you or on to their weaker foot. Also your surf-board position needs to crouch lower and bend more at the hips so you are in what i'd call a lower 'start-up position' (quads and calves are more loaded to make counter movement more explosive) making your reaction time much quicker. But respect for tackling an under-researched aspect of defending.
Thanks for this mate! Honestly, the beauty is football is open to interpretation no coach would ever advocate what they say is exactly how everything should be done. Trust me I am learning new viewpoints everyday, including yours. All people need to really take from this video IMO is the 3 P's - Pressure, positioning, patience. Easy to remember and prevents inexperienced players from rushing in (which is the main thing players do wrong in 1v1 defending). Aside from that the small details you mention are exactly that - small details. Of course we want to show the player onto their weaker foot but kids watching this may well want to worry about the fundamentals firstly. Touch tight...this is an interesting one. You see it a lot in American sports like basketball etc but I'll be honest bud in England coaches are not really telling the defender to be worrying about this (touching the player in front of you). We say touch tight sure to give a good gauge of how far away you should be - 'about a yard' like I say. Ultimately, if a player is flat footed and slow they will not be a good 1v1 defender anyway. I'd also completely disagree with crouching too low. When we use terms like 'surf-board' this is literally to help novices understand to be sideways on. If i tell a kid to be sideways on he/she may be like 'yeh but sideways to what?'. But saying surfboard they understand ok he means facing forwards but being side ways to facing this way - this is coaching bud. RE crouching deeper and really low this is a no no for me. If you are too low personally I think it is actually harder to react from down there rather than in between a deep squat and being upright. Again my friend your time to write this and produce conversation is truly appreciated.
My friend told me to just rush in and make the challenge and I ignored him and followed these rules and now I'm sooo much better,so thanks
Excellent bro. This is definitely the main takeaway from the video - don't rush in! You are a good student of the game 👍
Great Video. Thanks for the 3 Ps. Now I can always remins myself of them in Game. 👍
Thanks Niklas, glad that it helps!
Thank you so much I've got tryouts in two days last year I didn't make the team but this year I'm planning on it. I've been practicing at least three times a week. Wish me luck!
Best of luck David, you will smash it. The beauty of football is you can really improve every day.

Your welcome coach 🙏 actually thank you for the good and direct lesson 😍🙏
Thanks this helped me in 1v1 with my friends
Great to hear and thanks for feedback
Just get low and your eyes on the ball always
It’s best to not just look at the ball, you should also look at their eyes to try to read where they’re going, you could tell if they’ll fake by body language.
@@simonriley1981 how do you know if its a fake?
Great videos, please keep them coming.

BRO I WANT U TO MAKE A VIDEO ON EXPLAINING EVERY DETAIL OF MESSI DRIBBLING ( AS I ARE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND A GREAT COACH FOLLOWING U A LOT OF TIME AGO AND UR EVERY VIDEO IS WORTH TO WATCH).
Also make drills for every aspect of his dribbling. 🦶
so I want u to make a video on his every ability ( change of pace and changing direction at such pace, acceleration with ball , how he cuts it, which direction does he go and how his every dribble is so successful.etc ) I hope ur reply me 💕 💕😘. Waiting for it 🙂
I can try for dribbling yes bro 👌
@@WantTheBall yes bro waiting
@@WantTheBall bro , what are the updates?
quality stuff
Thank you for feedback 👍
Cut the distance and slowly let the attacker make the mistake while your teammates fill in the gaps to the sides and behind.
If a man running from the other post if my team mates are near me could i press him while he running
Please explain this one again?
I play as a defender for years (CB). My new coach said to rush and be vaery close to them. Which i dont because they will dribble me and score. Now i am on the bench. 0 defending knowledge by the coach
For me you would only rush in if you can see the player has taken a heavy touch and the ball is there to be won. Otherwise you need to time what you are doing in the press. Often we can force mistakes and slow the attack down just by getting in and then slowing to a couple of feet from the player with ball. The second you over engage the ball carrier will know to just push it past you 👍
I think what your coach means by rushing in is to get a body on them not stab and miss
nice pitch bro
👌
May I ask you a question? Can I do like what you have told in the video in the 2v1 situation?
Hi Popkrit, thank you for your question - we will get how to defend in a 2v1 done very soon for sure.
