Millions of first-generation college students arrive on college campuses across the nation every day. With them, they bring their pasts, their cultures, their hopes, their fears, and their dreams. This inspirational documentary delves into the lives of eight first-generation college students, five preservice teachers and three successful educators, who chose a profession dedicated to a concept they are all committed to: changing lives.

It’s nice to know Kansas takes pride in their first generation students. I was one myself and might consider them for graduate school.
Im a 1st generation College Student. Help was HARD to get, but HOURS In the Library just got me through basics it took 2yr : 2 semester. And had to work part-time.
This is awesome. We just did a video with first generation college hopefuls, and it is truly moving to witness the ambition and pioneering mentality of such incredible youths.

It's even worse to start undergrad if you never had a high school experience and you go when you're older. Many scholarships don't accommodate nontraditional students. Also, in general, scholarships completely neglect the people who need them most. I truly hope educational reform in the U.S. happens relatively soon (next 100 years, maybe?) Man, why couldn't I have been born somewhere in Scandinavia or preferably Finland. At least they actually value education.

lol. the nerve of someone attempting to teach you something valuable, huh.
So there I was many years ago as a "first generation" college student and here is my white privilege: worked full time 2nd shift in a factory, went to school full time at the community college, then to state school to finish my B.S. I slept in my car in between school and work, ate out of vending machines, flunked and repeated a number of challenging classes til I passed, paid everything on my own from my full-time and weekend jobs, no loans, grants or parental encouragement or help. My parents never inquired about what I majored in or my work. Some of my classmates were in the same boat and they had sleeping bags and camped in the State Park next to our campus because they had little money. They graduated too!!
