SiR, ScHoolboy, and Doechii have all dropped great projects this year. TDE is in a great place, talent and quality wise. It's just a matter of consistency of releases. We need Jay Rock next.
Y'all are not aware that she finished this mixtape in a month. She said in her Rolling Stones interview that it was in July that she decided one day after she woke up that she wanted to drop a mixtape on August 30. She's a very spiritual person and she's super into numerology and stuff like that, so she tunes into her dreams a lot. She said she just went up to the CEO and told him what she wanted to do, and that was it. Also, Doechii has this habit of doing a "One Song A Day". She will let the clock run for an hour and just start writing, and whatever came out of it she would do her best to make it into a song. So a lot of these are the result of her just freestyling and pouring her feelings down on paper. For a project like this to be so amazing when it was concluded in A MONTH is wild. People need to give her the RESPECT that she is owed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@norwoodsstokes3883 it's true. She said it on her listening party stream. She did the mixtape in 3 weeks. Her swamp session songs she made in 1 hour each. She's been doing this for years.
@@willthomas2310who tf said that… all the comment was applying was that it was finished in a quick manner therefore she deserves respect for that because it’s not a easy thing to do..
You can def hear influence from Busta, Missy, Kim, Kendrick and even Tyler... the list could go on, but she fully made it her own. The Swamp Princess has a fan in me.
Feefo... I get it, I have been running this mixtape since it dropped and just ordered my Vinyl. She has a chokehold on us, I hate that lots of people rate it lower cause "she can do better". ITS ALREADY AMAZING! She is just gonna get better, but that doesnt mean that this isnt beautiful already
Y’all was doing a lot with Feefo grades but I stand by it. In 5-10 years y’all will agree with Weefo. He’s seeing the potential and is just excited as a new fan.
completely w you here. This album has taken over my rotation. Caught me by complete surprise and in the first week it's been a different song on the mind every single day. It's actually crazy. The only female artist seeing her rn is doja, and there's just something more hiphop/raw ab doechii for me. But imo, she's the first in the long time that we have to stop comparing male/female rappers while being able to deliver the pop hits. On top of all the rap/hip hop moments, she delivers 100% sza-coded moments. Who's doing it like that rn??
@@yamoms0919 I don't think they're laughing at Feefo because they think his opinion is bad but because this is like when he's done this with IDK. He'll gas them up and make it sound like they were perfect only to never talk about them again. He said IDK dropped the best album ever and when it came down to best album of the year he ain't even bring it up. Here he said a+ on everything but b+ for replayability 😂😂. Its like if this artist is perfect everywhere why wouldn't you come back to it. His grading scale is a little weird is all.
@@yamoms0919 Little Simz, and Doechii is still firmly behind her. But my feelings on the album mirrors yours fairly well. 3-4 songs that I'm just not into, but the rest of the tape is really fucking good.
Good review fellas! Feefo you were on point. We need to support this Sista. I would hate for her to fall through the cracks. She gets an A across the board!
I agree with Feeefo. Doechii's mixtape (not album) feels like what Nicki Minaj could've matured into if she could actually sing. If you have to compare her to anyone, I'd say she's more of a Missy Elliot. Top compared the feel of her album to section 80, not the contents. I feel like the other guys heard that (incorrectly) and ran with it. Doechii deserves better. 🐊
Good review. I was pleasantly surprised that Ken liked "Denial is a River". 😅 The song gave me Slick Rick vibes in a contemporary way. She is a real talent.
This is an album of the year contender. I started deep diving her discog last spring, but this is the first one that truly blew me away. She is a bonifide star, and TDE needs to put the machine in hyper drive behind her.
Doechii been supremely dope, since before getting signed, and I'm so glad more ppl are starting to recognize her superstar potential. Edit: Anybody who's new to her, please please please check out her back catalog. She has 4 other short projects that are all quality works 💯
I came here to say the same thing. TDE didn't need to develop her, she was it way before them. From Coven Music Sessions, Bra-Less, She/Her Black Bitch. I've loved all her projects.
Very dope intro for a lot of people. People need to chill with the comparison and just enjoy the music. I’m glad people are hyped tho . Doechii has immense potential!
I think people ran with it but if they more so mean what Top meant when he made that tweet which was he got the same feeling of “this artist is special and has something different about them” I can agree. Kudos to Feefs for sticking to his guns. His perspective is representative of some if not most of the feedback out there on this, even if they were jumping out the window with how amazing this project is. It still feels thin to me, as good as it is. It shows what she is capable of, but not quite there yet.
Ken was the first to highlight that Douche pays homage to various aspects of hip hop, from beatboxing to certain historical styles. One of the album's greatest strengths is her demonstration of being a true child of hip hop culture while showcasing her unique contribution. She deserved the love Feefo gave her. Y’all were trying to clown, but will eat your words in the coming years. This project was phenomenal. Stop being such old heads.
of all the women that's out here rapping man it's like doechii is on top and then there's a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG stretch and then you got the rest of them
She totally bucketed the vibes on this album. If you are feeling one vibe there's a continuous string of 3 or 4 songs you can play in a row, but if you play the whole album it still feels like a coherent progression beginning to end starting in one place and ending in a completely different one
She borrowed so much stuff frok section 80 to pay homage. I gotta drop a list of it all. The casual Kendrick fans dont know them i see sorry ROD and etc.
