Great gig log! Mixing was spot on. And I feel you on that forced overtime sometimes it’s definitely not needed! I never thought about politely saying no tho, I might have to start doing that.
Yeah, it’s something I started doing about two years ago. Overtime is great but only if you have the right audience for it. I’ve never had a couple push back on it after I explain it.
Fantastic Gig Log!! Looks Like you all had a Great Turn out it's great that everyone enjoyed themselves. Its great that you got to work around the space that you did have in that Ballroom
CTA 2024 = How Rachel Got Her Groove Back! 😁 Appreciate your vulnerability at the end in sharing a feeling that ALL of us who do this any length of time will feel. 🙃 You "Fake It 'Til You (re)Make It"! 😉 And YEEEEESSSSSS! 💯 I coach my couples all the time that they don't need 5 hours of dancing after all of the formal activities are over. I try to impress on them the psychology of ending at that 2-hour (or so) dance mark where the energy is high, and your nearly full dance floor is BEGGING you for "One more song"!! Everyone will remember that their wedding was a "Rager" that no one wanted to end...as opposed to 2.5 hours in, everyone's exhausted (it's been a long day) and filter out. Not only do they insist on saying goodby to the B&G (which stops them from dancing), but all of a sudden there's a 1/4 of the guest list left. You have to pull everyone together for last dance and it feels like the party fizzled and was a dud. 🤷♂#MyTwoCents. Kill your wedding next weekend😃
This is very kind of you. Thanks for your time. This is 20 years of trial and error at play. Just keep trying. Record yourself. Listen to your work. Ask for feedback. Listen to other DJs. It’s all about small progress.
You are just a total rock star, you may remember a gentleman named Paul Harvey, he once said a chicken that lays the perfect egg deserves to cackle once in a while we should be allowed to enjoy the great gigs we do. Keep on doing what you do girl. P.S. thank you for sharing the mix that you play. :)
The DJ is the most important person at a party so I hate when venues treat the dj setup as an afterthought, but you made it work. your professionalism is top tier 😅👌
They honestly did the best they could. They were at max capacity and didn’t really have much choice. But yes, I have absolutely been bumped out of prime dance floor real estate for a cake or the sweet heart table. Lol. At the end of the day, we just gotta do what we gotta do.
Thanks so much for stopping by the channel! I appreciate your kindness. Yes, the lights are in MusikMode. It’s my favorite feature of @apelabs. It lets me give a DMX like look without needing to DMX. I don’t use an external mixer. I use a Roland 707M which is designed to not need an additional mixer. 🙂
@@aibebo82 I guarantee you they are not clipping. Proper terminology matters. You’re probably seeing a small flashing “limit” light that blinks on and off with certain music hits/ peaks. This is NOT the same thing as clipping. This is also not the same as a “LARGE LIMIT” light. Most people don't read the manual, and this is one of the biggest misconceptions about the EVOLVES. People say they "clip" or "limit" early when all they are really witnessing is the speaker doing what it was designed to do. A “LARGE LIMIT” light is not good, and you should back off, but a small blinking "LIMIT" light that flashes on and off periodically during certain songs or bass peaks is totally normal. It’s designed to do this and shows that the DSP is working. If you are clipping, that’s not a EV thing, that means your audio chain is incorrect. Nothing in the red EVER.
I would not be impressed if they tried to stuff me in their little corner and then put all those bags on my booth. I would flat out refuse. Moving a table around is a much smaller sacrifice to having the DJ in a bad position for the entire evening. Poor planning by the venue.
Being a difficult DJ is a great way to damage relationships, not get on a vendor's preferred list, receive bad reviews, and destroy your reputation. I will never make my clients think of me as someone who is arrogant and difficult to work with. My job as a professional is to get the job done with the tools, technology, and resources I have at my disposal. As long as what they are asking me to do is not dangerous or damaging to me or my equipment, I am happy to be accommodating. I did "refuse" to be placed where they originally wanted me. Common sense always wins, and sometimes just putting in a little effort and flexibility can go a long way. I made it work for everyone. How did those award bags affect me in any way? They didn't. How did being in the corner affect me in any way (other than having to run a slightly longer cable)? It didn't. What are you flat out refusing, and why? They were happy. The dance floor rocked. That's a win-win. Sometimes it doesn't make sense to make a fuss about stuff that we think matters more than it really does.
@@DJRachelLynch it’s the venue I would be annoyed with not the party bookers. I generally bend over backwards to accommodate. But this isn’t a wedding. And stuffing the DJ in a corner and then piling loads of bags onto their booth is belittling of what service the DJ supplies. If they had booked a stand up comedian, or even a band. Do you think they would have been stuffed in the corner. And then bags put all over their stuff… absolutely no way. Society devalues what DJs do and saying yes and ok to everything devalues the DJs worth. Yes you accommodate as you move along but there has to be a limit. You can’t just say yes to everything. I’m far from a difficult DJ. I just value my position of what we bring to an event. If everyone wanted to hang their coats from your booth would you have been ok with that. ?
@@theweddingspinner7340 If they had booked a band, they would have been in big trouble. There simply was no room for anything beyond what was shown in my gig log. If I had brought extra lighting, it would have stayed in the car; that's how little room there was. It was one of those instances where you need to work with what you've got and be the superhero. It wasn't the venue's fault that the client booked a venue too small for their guest count. They were extremely respectful and helpful in making sure I could execute my plan B. I don’t blame the venue at all. They were wonderful. The client chose to put the award table there to accommodate people walking up to grab their awards and to have a view of the room from that location without having their backs to anyone. They asked if it was okay, and I said certainly because it has zero impact on my performance. I can DJ and MC just as well with or without bags by my booth. Being flexible solidified my value because my attitude and streamlined setup got them out of a pinch and made for a great night. I'm not saying we shouldn't fight for ourselves when we are being displaced for a cake, but this wasn't one of those circumstances. 🙂
Great thinking and problem solving!! I also loved how you wrote out which songs we were transitioning! Amazing job 👏🏼👏🏼
I know it’s helpful to give track names. It’s very tedious to type out but I know people appreciate it. Thanks!
Pffft. Yes ma’am. You kick ass every transition bang on as usual! #goals WELL DONE!
🫡 appreciate this a lot!
