    Great videos. I am a retired heavy truck mechanic. That cut away at your former school is really cool. I scrap metal and junk cars now and then in Mesa Az as a hobby but to do it full time and have a crusher to run and a loader to load stuff with and rip stuff apart. Does not get any better than that except maybe getting to work with your dad. That would be awesome. My dad who was a WW-2 Army Major was severely injured during the war and eventually paralyzed from the neck down as a result. He died at age 58 when I was 19 in 1975. I miss him every day. I tell people all the time your folks won't be around forever. Appreciate them while you can. Keep up the good work.

    Very handy with the forks, enjoy watching the processing of salvage and realizing you can not save everything. Like that you save the stuff from the 60s back for other projects and the new stuff is replaceable every day un till they to become classics. Great video.

    I know it's hard sometimes crushing stuff and throwing it away back in 2008-9 old old cars old trucks Old Farm Equipment combines in like you and big trucks it was an experience we use to assault metal cutting saw and torches to cut stuff and a skid steer loader to load most of the we didn't have a big loader like you got but we did okay doing that we were able to survive good luck I enjoy watching your show don't worry about what somebody tell you you should have saved just do what you think is right continue the good work thumbs up

    Enjoyed the video. I was wondering how you might process the vehicles in your yard but you showed us what is valuable to strip off and what could be left for the shredder. I've known one or two guys who will take junk vehicles to the local scrapyard but they first started out not checking everything as to what was salvageable. They kinda laughed about the radiators and converters that they forgot to remove before scrapping a car or truck. Must have cost a pretty penny in money they could have had until they smartened up.

    Silas, a couple of questions: do you have to drain fluids from cars before crushing them; do you look under the seats, in glove boxes, in the trunks, etc. before disposing of them?

  • @Scrapping4aDart
    @Scrapping4aDart 3 роки тому

    How do you drain the fluids (gas, oil, antifreeze) out of the scrap vehicles? Do you buy them already drained? Also if cars/trucks have aluminum rims you pull them off and sell separately? Lastly how much do you buy the cars for and how much do you sell them for? I've always wondered how much a scrap yard really makes on scrap? When I sell copper for example to a scrap yard they give my around $4.00 a pound for number one. How much does a scrap yard sell that copper for per pound? I enjoy your videos.

    • @AdventuresMadeFromScratch
      @AdventuresMadeFromScratch  3 роки тому +1

      I drain them into totes. I usually pull aluminum wheels. We pay anywhere from $100 to $1,000 for cars just depending on what it is, and our profit ranges from $50 to $500 usually. I don’t deal in copper or brass, so I can’t comment on that specifically.

Welcome to the new reality. PS, Ford has stopped building cars. Hint. Henry is not rolling over, he is spinning in his grave. What ever happened to the men that wanted to make life better “for all”.
