The original movie was a fantastic example of what can be accomplished on a limited budget with practical effects and how it can look so much better and natural than even the best CGI. It was also well structured narratively and the actors were all very dedicated to their performances. A movie done right in my eyes.
The graboids scared me when I was a kid, I was afraid just stepping on bare dirt for at least a month. But this movie holds a special spot on my heart.
One nice thing about the Graboids is that they aren't treated as a ham-handed metaphor for whatever issue the writers thought was wrong with the world and are instead treated as living creatures with identifiable habits and hunting patterns. They aren't evil; they are just animals that are hungry and looking for food.
I personally loved the first Tremors movie. It was well written & acted, and while basic, does it extremely well. And the casting was just perfect. Also, this is one of the relative few movies that still holds up well, even today.
Agreed, It applies the rarely seen but ever present horror style quite well. Too few a film does it as well and I will forever be aware of any nearby rocks for obvious reason lol
Its a movie from 1990. Its incredibly well made and has better effects than a lot of movies today. Theres only a single CGI or green screen scene in the entire movie, when Burt is shooting a rifle at a Graboid in his basement. Other than that one scene, everything else is perfect. Tremors 1, 2, 3 were great movies. Tremors The Series was okay. After that it went down fast, in fact I'm glad they put the last nail in the coffin with the most recent movie.
Love this movie! I grew up watching it on the Navajo Nation! The idea of the movie came from Brent Maddock and SS Wilson whom were in the Navy. They were in a Nevada Test Site, taking notes on a large Boulder and one of them said, "What if there was something under the ground that would never let us off this rock?" And thus Tremors was born!
I love the entire series. Michael Gross keeping up with it has been the best. I know the later films aren't the best, but they never pretend to be anything but good fun.
I grew up on Tremors. Even got a tattoo on a large part of my right arm of a Graboid. Granted it was to cover up an embarrassing tattoo but I probably would’ve gotten a Tremors inspired tattoo regardless.
@@andybrooks7228 idk why I included you in my rant.. Totally sorry for that 😄✌ There is just so many horrendous "tattoo shops" out there. I actually gag at some results/ prices.
Thanks for covering this series I'm proud to say I have the complete movie collection and count them amongst my most favourite films of all time. I would honestly recommend them to anybody. Excellent content as always thankyou.
I freaking love this movie. I was just old enough to be scared by the concept of underground monsters, but they looked just cheesy enough. This is just one of those movies that made my childhood great. Heck I've seen a lot of my favorites covered on this channel.
Went to see Tremors with Mom and Dad. Good stuff. Dad loved it. Dad said it reminded him of 50’s and 60’s monster movies. Proud to say Dad and I own the dvd.
I love Tremors! It's one of those movies that if it's on TV, no matter how far into it is, I have to watch it! I found the sequels entertaining as well.
This was one of the first more “mature” films growing up, I had 4 movie collection and watched them countless times. Tremors holds a dear place in my memory
I absolutely love this movie it's one of my all time favorites. I remember being a little kid watching this in the early 90s with my mom. We probably rented it. That graboid was terrifying to 5 year old me.
I haven't watched the rest of the tremors movies but the fact the Michael gross has stayed with the series for every movie is respectable as hell, he definitely loves what he does and loves the role no matter what. We all need to buy this man beer.
"Tremors" is such a great film. Just the right balance of fun and scary, with a dash of visceral disgust thrown in. And having seen more tiny, isolated Nevada towns than I care to recall, I can also vouch for the relative verisimilitude of the characters. Sure, they're a theatrical version of real people (the most notable example being survivalist Reba McIntyre and her husband), but they're pretty spot on. I always figured Reba and her husband were former California entrepreneurs who got rich, became ultra-conservative, retired early, and moved to Nevada partly for the survivalist lifestyle, but also for the low taxes. Because that seems to be the background of a lot of the rich survivalist people who live out in the Nevada hinterlands.
The fact that the graboid species as a whole shares a common ancestor with Devonian cephalopods and reproduce via a caste base system involving sibling parasitism scares the hell out of me. You ever think about how the only reason the grub like stage of life for graboids exists only to protect the rest of it's siblings before dying and feeding the second caste in the life cycle. Then the shriekers (second caste) carry the rest of their siblings in their mouth tissue until they are developed enough to drop out and continue the cycle until no more shriekers can be produced. Then metamorphosis occours in some of the shriekers (from the canon sources the assblasters are either the female varient or just a new breeding caste) which gives rise to the assblasters that in turn give rise to more graboids, it's like a termite nest but with sex. Truly horrifying how the scyfy channel put this much thought into these weird things.
I remember watching this as a kid and since my bedroom was in the basement I would sit in bed and stare at the wall hoping nothing came through lol. Burt had a big impact on me as well, working on building my own collection.
This might sound completely crazy and a bad idea/suggestion, but does anyone think that the graboids would be perfect for existing in the monster-verse ? Mainly in the hollow earth. Since they’re “pre cambium life forms” and “predate the fossil record” similar to Godzilla and the other titans.
I grew up watching these. I love these movies regardless what people think about them. Always have a special place in my heart for these movies. The 1st one will always be my favorite
What thanks? He did nothing but read the back of a DVD and showed some clips...quit paying to play and actually do some work....no one gets paid for free work
Burt Gummer: "Guess you broke into the wrong God damn rec room, didn't ya!" I have some good memories of watching this while doing a big sleepover with my cousins, Burt was quickly my favourite character but it was a small margin :-)
Tremors has always been a movie that I enjoy from when it was first released to now. It always came across as fun enjoyable movie and the cast even though they were filming in the scorching sun all looked like they had fun starring in it.
My daughter loves all the movies. She's 13 and can even draw the different Graboids. She thought those were creepy until I showed her the Dune sandworms lol.
Tremors is so much fun to watch. It was the first horror movie I watched as a kid growing and since then I've watched all the movies that came out after the first one. As a kid, I always thought that Tremors 2, 3, and 4 got a theatrical release. But I was surprised to find out that they didn't. Very underrated franchise that deserves the fanbase it has today.
My introduction to Tremors wasn't the movie, but rather the Television Series, which more people should check out. It's a same it never got a second season.

Ah yes, tremors, this was my go to movie when i was bored, the original movie was a masterpiece, but they can really improve for the newer movies. But however they did a good job on the prequel where there is a smaller graboid devolution

It was also well structured narratively and the actors were all very dedicated to their performances. A movie done right in my eyes.
A certified Classic!
Practical effects was more harder to make than the cgi though
The graboids scared me when I was a kid, I was afraid just stepping on bare dirt for at least a month. But this movie holds a special spot on my heart.
I had a very similar experience but with the movie Shaun of the Dead. Traumatised me as a 6 year old but I grew to love the movie!
Scared me to. I would rather be lit on fire than to be suffocated in the mouth (you can imagine enough) of a subterranean worm.
Y’all was some bitches if u got scared of this movie 😂talkin about u was afraid for a month. No hate but bruh
One nice thing about the Graboids is that they aren't treated as a ham-handed metaphor for whatever issue the writers thought was wrong with the world and are instead treated as living creatures with identifiable habits and hunting patterns.
They aren't evil; they are just animals that are hungry and looking for food.
I think the one graboid was set out for revenge after losing its tongue
The practical effects and perfectly written characters make it timeless.
I’m glad this series is getting more attention as of late
Yeah me too.
One of the few known examples that prove without question that a story for a movie can be done well enough without huge budgets.
