I didn't know it was possible to play the ukulele so well. Richard Thompson said "People think I'm kidding when I say my right-hand technique is influenced by George Formby, but it's true."
I love my music particularly indy and punk but I also love George and his catchy tunes not to mention his clever, witty lyrics not unlike Morrissey really. Also George was a humanitarian as proven on his tour of South Africa when he cancelled it on account of being asked to perform in front of segregated audiences apart from one show he did in front of a an all black audience which he finished by picking up a young black girl who came on stage to present him with a bunch of flowers and hugging and kissing her on the cheek which made the audience love him even more and cemented his popularity with black audiences as well as his traditional white working class fans. You have got to love him just for that act if nothing else.
I'm with you, Stuart. Indy, punk... and George. :D I actually link all kinds of music and this is just pure entertainment. To me it has even an early Sid Barrett feel to the fun of the lyrics.
George once said that he only knew a few chords, so he'd have Ukes tuned to various keys and swap them in and out accordingly. Actually, he was probably being humble...Ukes and Banjoleles were (and are!) notoriously hard to keep in tune, and intonation could get suspect the further you ventured up the next This way, George maintained tuning stability, as well as being able to use his split strum and hammer-on techniques using his favourite shapes...which would have been impossible had he played it in another key!
Interesting thing is that Weird Al must have been a fan of this tune since he used the same rhythm for his song, "This Is The Life", which was the main theme for 1984 comedy film, "Johnny Dangerously", that was set in the 1930s.
George Formby, you (annoyingly popular) LEGEND. I literally cannot be seen with my Ukulele without someone mentioning your name, specifically requesting this song - haha! Now I must learn the ways of the window cleaner... argh! @Duncan Automatic Stop - awesome footage great share, thanks a lot!
It's his way of staying in time while playing and singing at the same time. His left leg is keeping tempo for his singing, and his right is for the ukulele.
I have a neighbour he's now 82 who used to go to clubs singing George's song wore a wig had a ukulele very antisocial nasty man well one day he accused my son of breaking into his shed he did not so one night I thought I'm not having this I put his front window through by the way I'm talking when I was in my 30s I'm now 74 my neighbour was in his 40s I thought you won't be cleaning that window again my son got arrested for theft and criminal damage he was innocent I went to the polcestation said it was me who broke the window they said go home mum lol and yrs later who's my neighbours best friend me we both still live 8n the same St I told him Terry it was me who put your window in all he said was you little bugger 😂
Rest in peace George formby 1904-1961
The Queen Mother favorite song. She asked him to perform it three times.
The royal family should be abolished
@Fredrik Larsson they all want abolishing. All of them
@Fredrik Larsson 🤣😂😅
And if he refused? Off with his head! 😂
@@Deleted11100 shhh! don't you know they're watching?! They'll send you the gallows for high treason! Careful 😂

I got a uke for xmas. It's now June and I can play this song and many more.. it's only practice... lots of practice...
Its nice being able to listen without a large orchestra behind him obscuring his great ukele chops

Stars in Their Eyes took me here
Nice to see George perform, thanks for posting!
You're welcome Paul.
Wonderful, just wonderful 👏👏👏👏👍🏴
The music teacher was Edith Stamp Taylor , was also in The Wicked Lady with Margaret Lockwood 👍
@oldgarsonn, her name was Enid Stamp Taylor, not Edith.
I was looking for this....Thanks for uploading
They showed this whole movie a couple of years ago on TCM. I happened to remember the George Formby name from a James Herriot book.
I think I remember the quote! At the greyhound race track?
@@AlejandroPRGH Yes! Shady track where the manager tried to intimidate him.

And don’t forgot the George smile and grin annoying cheeky boy he was known for
He's probably the most famous Uke player of all time.. definitely in the UK.
He is sooooo cute!
I use to sing along to this song when I use to play eye toy the window cleaning game
The Eminem of his day.
1:47 music starts
Bullock rocked the cover version
Absolutely. Wish Patrick Stewart recorded a full cover of this song
My grand parents were children’s back then
2000s kids from playing eye toy 🤝 the elderly
Does anyone know just how in the hell he was able to keep two separate beats on either leg?!
Turned out nice again? No idea hahaha

@@darthdaquan3715 Yes, I understand why he's doing it. I'm astonished at his ability to do it at all.
LOL
Well spotted, never noticed it, cant even do it myself!
love ya Sarah.
"If you've got anything in you, I shall be able to bring it out..." 😂😮😅
Odd front door - no door knob, just two locks.
Brilliant while funny
Leigh's finest!
She's a little over dressed for a music teacher!
Maybe she wanted George to ram a bar right up her stave
Loved it = ) What film is it from?
This is from the movie: Keep your seats, please. Regards. André.
Thank you!
Any notion of where can I buy it or watch online?
FWIW, "Keep Your Seats, Please" is a loose adaptation of the 1928 Russian novel "The Twelve Chairs," by Ilf and Petrov.
After the SA affair the president tried to warn them of for playing to Black audiences, his wife replied “Piss off you horrible little man”
I have a neighbour he's now 82 who used to go to clubs singing George's song wore a wig had a ukulele very antisocial nasty man well one day he accused my son of breaking into his shed he did not so one night I thought I'm not having this I put his front window through by the way I'm talking when I was in my 30s I'm now 74 my neighbour was in his 40s I thought you won't be cleaning that window again my son got arrested for theft and criminal damage he was innocent I went to the polcestation said it was me who broke the window they said go home mum lol and yrs later who's my neighbours best friend me we both still live 8n the same St I told him Terry it was me who put your window in all he said was you little bugger 😂

That was so funny
Why did the British have better cameras than us in 1936?
Finally a song to sing while I'm being creepy.
25 guineas?! That's a lot of money for music lessons.
Funny Song🥂
