I haven’t seen this since your original live stream, and had forgotten how beautiful it is. I think her light head voice technique is part of creating an ethereal atmosphere, together with the dancers’ style. Maggie, good reaction. You need to perform with Andre Rieu.
The original version of this song was indeed sung by a boy soprano. The song as sung in that production had an ethereal quality that only a child can really impart to the song. This lady was trying to do that. She approached the original at times but will never be able to duplicate that original production. I would go so far as to say "Don't even try".
@@mdshovel Yes, Aled Jones who hosts a programme on Classic FM in the UK now as an adult. Also it's not just the young male soprano, it's the Welsh pronunciation of the words that makes that performance for me, it just sounds flat without the way the Welsh roll their R's and everything else.
Also worth noting as people have highlighted Aled Jones performance over and over, but his vocals were not originally used for the soundtrack of the adaptation which were purely orchestral music composed by Howard Blake, a name that is sadly not nearly as well known as it should be for such a talent.
Andre Rieu performs a lot of very beautiful music. One that is both beautiful and surprising is an instrumental called “and the waltz goes on”. There is a surprise here you would never expect. It’s on UA-cam. Another one so beautiful words can’t describe is “the rose” with Andre on the violin. And of course there is Andre with Amira Willghagen.
To me, staying in head voice gives an almost spectral feel to the piece, as if the singer were a vision and not really physically there. The wings on the costume add to that. The ice skating bits also add to that impression. And of course the lyrics fit that very well. Good reaction, good analysis. PS You deserve to be in the Rieu world! PPS I am jealous that you can say Rieu much better than me.
This is supposed to be sung by a boy-soprano, which have a more piercing power and less vibrato. They are a rare breed these days and probably difficult for Andre Rieu's touring orchestra to maintain and commit to.
I agree with Abby maybe she wants sound childlike, but I don't like this. You either let a child 14 or 15 year old sing this piece like an Amira Willighagen. Anna Majchrzak is however a trained soprano at the conservatory of music in Rotterdam and vocal developement at the McCray International Studio of Vocal Arts. ( from her webpage) The only thing I can do with ice is to eat it.
I'm spoiled. I'm sure about that. This performance doesn't impress me. Its nice. But that ain't enough these days ..... Not a perfomance fitting for Andre's show (just nog that special) . As I said... spoiled.

And made most famous by Aled Jones. Was made for the film "The Snowman". It really best suits the boy soprano voice

Absolutely Lovely!
Nightwish does a great version of this tune.

I love this so much. Actually sounds ethereal. At least till the end.
In the movie the Snowman this piece is performed by a 13 - 15 yo boy.
Welsh singer Aled Jones it was, he was around 15 when he made it
My favorite version of this tune is Chloë Agnew for a Celtic Woman performance. It has a tender quality to it.
Please, please check out Amazing Grace by Dan Vasc - "Metal singer performs Amazing Grace". It is the most beautiful rendition I have ever heard!
Thanks!

Please, react to Andre Rieu and Carmen Monarcha or Carla Mafioletti. Love your videos! ❤
Learn this song for your mother, but then sing it (as a joke ;-) ) like Tarja at Nightwish ;-)
you should react to " Nightwish" do this one.

nightwish did it better
Nightwish version is better, I think.
You don't have to always react positively Renee. This is awful music by all means, so poor and clichéed... Sorry Rieu's fans...
