  • Volvo has commenced production of its fully electric flagship SUV, the Volvo EX90, at their factory near Charleston, South Carolina. The Volvo EX90 marks a significant milestone as it is the first Volvo vehicle powered by core computing technology, ushering in a new era of safety. The initial customer deliveries are scheduled for the latter half of this year, with the first Volvo EX90 off the line being a Denim Blue model headed for a customer in the United States. Jim Rowan, Volvo’s chief executive, emphasized that the Volvo EX90 represents a new era for safety, sustainability, and human-centric technology, proudly manufactured in the USA.
The Charleston plant, Volvo Cars’ first manufacturing facility in the United States, now produces both the Volvo EX90 and the S60 sedan. Extensive investments have enhanced the body shop, paint shop, and added a state-of-the-art battery pack production line. The Volvo EX90, based on next-generation born-electric EV technology, boasts a range of up to 600 km and is designed to be the safest Volvo car to date, featuring advanced passive and active safety technologies. With its Scandinavian design principles, the EX90 offers modern proportions, a seven-seater configuration, and the ability to improve over time through AI-enabled software updates. This new model reaffirms Volvo’s commitment to innovation and their long-term dedication to the US market.

I like my XC90 more than the EX90. I was able to see it in a showroom some months ago, and it sure was very nice looking. My concerns, though, are that the range seems very limited and the delays make me concerned about the quality build of the vehicle. I have a 2023 XC90 that I was wanting to trade for this, but I may be doing the B6 Ultimate with Bowers and Wilkins since the design is pretty timeless to me.

Look at the factory it's immediately apparent there would be significant delay in delivery of EX90. No doubt.

A Volvo must be built in Sweden. Everything is going to hell with your globalization.

Great car from Volvo, but the combo of chineese ownership and poor american build finish is not appealing to me.

But did they improve on reliability? It's planetary known that they break a lot.

I think they'll do a lot better with EV's than ICE when it comes to reliability.

@@markbartoszek8585 The question is why do you think that? Besides someone somewhere hallucinating that "ev's have less moving parts and will have better reliability" there is nothing in the real world data that confirms that. It's actually the opposite. And Volvo is very known for low reliability why would this change now? Not to mention that suspension was a big part of the problem and this car will have the same suspension but will be even heavier.
