I remember my first playthrough years ago. My friend was wilhelm and i was Claptrap. I got the rubber ducky and cannons so many times it drove him mad. He legit wanted me to start from scratch because claptrap was that random. Ended up clutching many fights as claptrap and laughed at him like i knew what i was even doing.

Still a shame Helios 1 got destroyed in Tales from the Borderlands. Personally i found that station full of potential for many other possible contents. And what we got? Atlas space station from New Tales... Sigh...

TPS player here. In some ways, I don't understand why I still play it. The enemies are a bigger pain, most of the bosses do way too freaking much than the bosses of 2, cryo might be the worst element in my opinion because it never procs when I need it (even if I'm using a sniper with a 40% chance against an unshielded enemies in a vacuum), Oz kits are not a suitable replacement for the relics, and legendary farming is as fun as being a child slave in a diamond mine. But I do love the interactions with the character and the story, the humor gets me, and most of the characters are actually pretty powerful. Nisha, Jack, and Aurelia are definitely top tier (Aurelia takes first for me for having several skills dedicated to gun damage, crit damage, bullet/rocket velocity, bonus damage, and giving all weapon elements additional cryo damage). Athena is a crazier version of Gaige with shock and fire elements when you invest in Aepis and Ceraunic Storm. And Wilhelm while not being quite the Axton of the game or having insane amounts of gun damage buffs as the other still pulls his weight. Claptrap however just sucks. I managed to beat RK5 several times now (albeit, any other character would have it done MUCH quicker) but I'm honestly scared to go through Tycho's Ribs because Claptrap just gives me nothing to work with.
I got a chip on my shoulder with this game. But I guess I get some entertainment value out of it at the very least. I picked up the collection for about 7 bucks so even if I just play one of the games, I guess it ain't the biggest of losses.

There's barely any replayability in the Pre-sequel. Lore is pretty much the only reason I would play again. Wilhelm was my favorite out of the bunch, i think.
