Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us via the weblink below.
This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k. For more information visit www.PeriscopeFi...

I'm sure that most of your work is as boring as watching paint dry, then something like this comes along. But every day is a treasure hunt of sorts. Keep up this amazing work and thanks for preserving history.
That's true and not true -- this past week we were looking through dozens of endangered home movies and roughly 50% of them had something amazing to see! We found rare footage of Ebbets Field, footage of the Great Lakes Exposition (a world's fair that we'd never seen footage of before!) and shots of a streamliner steam locomotive that were really amazing. But yes this one does kind of take the cake! Thanks for being a sub and please share the video with friends.
These are all windows into what has been. Pics and film are all portals into the past and may help explain how we got to where we are now. Looking at peoples activities, dress and mannerisms all come out in these celluloid vehicles. It amazes me at their progress without today's amenities. One must remember that they had new amenities that previous generations did not,and the cycle continues. Go Periscope!
Thank you for actually putting passion into what you do, I'm certain it's why your company has been around for so long. If you don't put immediate profit first, usually you will end up making more in the long run from loyal customers. ❤ @PeriscopeFilm

@@PeriscopeFilm Did the film show not only Adolf Hitler. But, Hitler in white it most have been cold out winter time
That's an impressive find. It really makes you wonder how much historically significant film is scattered around waiting to be rediscovered.
Yes 100% and these particular films (in this foot locker) could easily have been thrown away! Hey thanks for being a sub, please share the vid.
Well one thing is for sure, if someone needs historical images (moving or otherwise) from the 21st century they’ll have plenty to study. My iPhone alone has something like 7,000 photos and hours of video!
Sadly a lot of these types of films were destroyed during the war, making finds like this a truly rare gem.
@Chad_Thundernuts that's especially true on the Japanese side as their film archive burned during the war.
Or sadly lost forever 😓
That's crazy, but what an incredible find! Hitler touring a tank factory in WW2. All I can say is wow! I'm glad Periscope has this footage and is preserving it!

Be aware: There’s a saying that Hitler would use a double to go around places to avoid any attempt of assassination. Actually it is a common practice for a lot of countries in order to protect their leaders.
@@humptydumpty-m8u But that is Hitler in this film and filmed really up close. The Nazi's weren't stupid enough to attempt to use a doppelganger on their public information propaganda films of this type on a news reel about a visit to a factory.
@@humptydumpty-m8u...hat hiding the eyes.
I bet it is better than any of the recent Star Wars movies.
Those are Panzer IV Ausf. F2. Produced from March 1942. The film should be from that time. As You would visit factory to see new or improved vehicle.
Very interesting! That certainly adds a data point. Thanks so much. Please share the video (and any further thoughts too!)
Correct. They could almost be early G's until the video gets to the shot of the gun baffle and you can see it has the earlier style. Production ended in July so the video takes place between March and July 42.
Yup, that’s the tank and provides a narrow date range.
Their is a simple way to tell PzKpfW III and IV apart. If you can divide the number of road wheels by 3 it is a III (6 wheels). If you can divide it by 4 it is a IV (8 wheels)

Wonderful that you found this. We need more films like this restored with NO alterations.
Glad you enjoyed it and understand its significance.
Nothing cooler than learning that someone has found a lost video and then getting to watch others watch the lost video.
Thank you for saving this piece of history.
As has already been written, the tank factory is the “Nibelungenwerk” (Nibelungen works) in St. Valentin, Lower Austria. St. Valentin is located about 30 km southeast of Linz. According to one source, Hitler visited the Nibelungen works twice. The first visit was on June 20, 1942, when he was presented with the Panzer IV tank. The second visit was on April 4, 1943, this time accompanied by Albert Speer and Colonel General Guderian. Since Speer and Guderian are not seen in the film, the footage probably shows the first visit. The date is therefore June 20, 1942.
Thanks for what you do.

Great job retrieving this footage. LInz, Austria was also Hitler's true hometown. In his mind, and with the help of Albert Speer, his Chief Architect, Hitler planned to build a huge Art Museum in Linz. The outcome of World War II prevented that from happening.

My Father was a Sgt. in a US rmy Combat Engineer Battalion in WW2. He brought back a silver panzer soldiers badge that I still have. You have great content for this channel.
The Combat Engineer Battalion didn't happen to be the 1263? My father was a medic in that battalion during 1944-1945. I have hanging above my basement fireplace the Nazi Luftwaffe parade sword he brought back along with a slip from a battalion officer authorizing him to bring it back. A physical reminder to my kids that the nightmare of WW2 actually happened.
Was sagt uns das? Eure Väter sind allesamt Besatzer und Plünderer.
Always like a story with a happy ending.
It is sad to think about how many historical (and valuable) films and relics have been thrown out by careless people as "just old junk".
Yes ... we have been rescuing films from dumpsters for almost 20 years!
One time I was visiting San Francisco with a friend that needed to go to the Russian embassy. I waited outside and noticed in a large open dumpster on the street right in front there were tons of films in canisters. I was interested in them because I used to work for a movie theater, but had no vehicle so didn't take anything. My friend thought some were old Russian movies
Wow, that is very stunning!
I’ve seen old Nazi movies like “Triumph of the Will”, “Olympia” and various WW2 German newsreels/documentaries.
This is truly a gem you found! Thank you for sharing!

Wow... You guys struck gold with this film! And to think that this is the only copy in existence is shocking! It goes to show that history can change at any moment because we continue, even in the year 2024, to unlock new perspectives that have never been seen before even 80 years after the war ended! Even if this particular film shows nothing remarkable in terms of new information, the fact that a lost film could potentially change what we know about history gives me goose bumps!
@MaximusandHistory you just never know what's out there ... waiting to be found in a vault, garage, or footlocker! We've had it happen many times.
Love how random Germans greets him with the roman salute. Haven't seen that before.
Austrians, to be specific ;-)
The "German salute".
At 3:30 you see the barrel of an early high velocity 75 mm Panzer 4. This is probably sometime in 1942.
Ive been in the Eagles nest ( kehlsteinhaus ) in 2016. This place wasn't bombed so its all preserved.
You guys do know that Hitler was from Linz originally? He supposedly at one time wanted to retire there (had things gone better for him ). You seemingly did not know that as viewed in this film. May not be significant to the tank factory film , but the factory was possibly the Eisenwerke Oberdonau in Linz where tank hulls were made. Still, interesting to view.
AH came from Braunau an Inn….
@@hermanvonsprudelwasser I think we're talking apples and oranges here. Yes, where you say, he was born, but he lived near Linz (Leonding) until he moved to Vienna. He always had some affection for Linz since it was his turf as a young person. But I was referring to where he actually grew up. Born in 1889 in Braunau am Inn, moved to Passau at age 3, returned to Austria (Leonding) at age five and was sent to school in Linz though he hated it and eventually moved to Vienna to study fine arts. He always identified with German Nationalism at an early age, but still had memories from childhood of his growing up around Linz.
Er kam aus Braunau. Ursprünglich war es niederbayrisch. Erst durch Napoleon kam es zu Österreich. Heute ist dort die Polizei untergebracht.😉
Hitler was born and raised in Braunau, which is a village in the "Waldviertel" in Austria close to Southern Germany. Linz was the closest bigger city. Hitler wanted to retire to Linz after the war, that is something he mentioned various times.
True, Hitler was from Linz.
These films need to be in a serious film vault built to keep films intact-not a storage locker.

Glad you enjoyed it and -- keep doing what you are doing with film!
This is an incredible find, the footage you’ve found is very rare, most of this stuff, especially connected to Hitler, was destroyed at the end of the war. I wonder what other films are in that footlocker?
Most of the other films in the footlocker have been assessed. Most are UFA newsreels from the WWII era.
3:00 That’s a Pz IV…
Great stuff & needs to be put into a documentary show piece with facts to back it up. A super find for sure. We can NEVER forget these guys that brought about such terror in that time frame in history because it should never be repeated. Thanks for posting & to that guy who saved this.
Thanks for the comment!
cr: It was the allies that brought the terror including Poles and Soviets.
I wonder how many other films like this are laying around in places, hidden, and waiting to see the light of day.
MANY! We have almost 10,000 motion picture films waiting to be scanned -- who knows what is in there?!
Thank you for assuring the conviction
Having not likely been stored in the best of conditions, it's amazing it's in that good of condition ! Lots that is out there isn't as good sadly, especially if taken on cellulose film, lots of history has been lost with that, luckily some is still being found and preserved .
Great point. Film is an amazing medium. Compared to videotape (which has a lifespan of maybe 20 years but a lot less on certain formats) and digital (where standards and hard drive connectors are constantly changing) and DVD (which also goes bad after a few decades) - film can last hundreds of years. We are often dealing with films that are in the 90+ year old range -- in perfect shape. And yes, there are films that are a lot "younger" that are in terrible shape. As you say, a lot has to do with how they were stored. It's a race against time in most cases with all media (digital/tape/DVD/CD/etc.) to archive it. Thanks for your comment and for being a sub.
Great find! Where the other films this soldier brought back of a similar nature, or was it a randomn assortment of films of a wider variety?
Good question! Most are German newsreels made by UFA

@@PeriscopeFilm Neat. I've always been fascinated by the history of Moviola, Steenbeck and KEM. There is very little information about each company except for Steenbeck online. The only reason I know Moviola makes a flatbed editor is because my school had one. (Although the Steenbeck was far superior.) Otherwise the internet just tells you about the original upright editors.
The "library viewer" is a bit obscure because it was developed late in the game, and primarily for use by news organizations and the military. You can see an LVR in action in one of our films! ua-cam.com/video/iZiduQboyow/v-deo.html
