This breaks my heart. I’m a U.S. citizen with very strong roots in England and Scotland. To me, Trump is in the same category as Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin. If I were younger, I would emigrate and apply for British citizenship. Like many Americans, I feel shamed by this madman and his fellow maniacs.

As an American, I am pissed off that enough people voted for Trump to win. He does not represent a majority of the American people. The excuse for the vote was the price of gasoline and eggs. This show was outstanding. Michael Weiss knows his subject so well that he can make it understandable to non-experts. Tim + it shows another side of your expertise. You ask good questions that only happens when you know about the topic. We need to learn about the world. I live in Toronto, the most diverse city in the world. Our main networks cover international affairs. I have neighbors and friends from Iran, the Phillipines, S. Korea, Syria, etc. As a dual citizen I am frustrated by America's limited scope. A lot of Americans are completely ignorant or downright delusional about it. While I was a campaign volunteer, one “independent” voter revealed his warped perspective on Putin; this distortion is seemingly common with Trumpers and people who are Trumper-curious.
After I finished explaining why Donald’s unpredictability was so dangerous for our country on an international level, that voter asked me, “Yeah, but at the end of the day, don’t you think that Putin at least _respects_ Trump? Isn’t that a good thing?”
I cannot believe that I had to explain that Putin doesn’t respect Trump. In fact, Putin doesn’t respect *any* American. He wants the US to be completely destroyed. Russia is our adversary and MAGA is helping them destroy the US. Unbelievable.

Tim - Our vet once told us that male cats are friendlier than female cats, while it's the opposite with dogs. We adopted a neighborhood "stray" cat about 10 years ago and named him "Larry". In August, Larry was diagnosed with terminal lymphoma. Along with our amazing vet, we've been fighting for Larry to feel as well as possible for as long as possible, but a week ago he got to the point where they had to stop treatment. As we wait for Larry to let us know when the time is right, I want to tell you how happy it makes me to hear that you've taken Aretha into your heart. But please consider keeping your cat indoors. Indoor cats live so much longer - and there are horrific dangers in the world for outdoor cats. We let Larry out when we're outside, and he pretty much stays nearby. I hope you and your family get to enjoy a long, happy life with Aretha!

    Another Aussie here.
I went to college in America on a sports scholarship (late 80s) and fell in love with America and its people.
Its pain full to watch this debacle happen and my warning to Australia is be careful because ANY COUNTRY can do this to itself.
Look what Britain did with Brexit.
Look what France is doing to itself right now.
Look what South Korea just did to itself.
ANY COUNTRY no matter how well advanced its institutions are can rapidly devolve if it gets lax.
In college I did engineering but a bunch of my friends we pre-law and they used to dreg me into their discussions. So I had an unusual education into how America is SUPPOSED to function. Because I had studied Orwell ()1984 & Animal farm) in High School I used to argue that ANY country could devolve into a totalitarian dictatorship because that was Orwell's message.
They used to argue back that America could NOT devolve because of the way the American system of "Checks & Balances" worked. I am now convinced that the Founding Fathers were amazing and created one of humanities greatest achievements the US Constitution. But as an engineer I liken it to a magnificent car designed by great engineers *AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE PROPERLY MAINTAINED.*
And this (I think) is going to be America's great lesson. Its not enough to have a great constitution, surrounded by great institutions with a well thought out maintenance program (regular elections, checks & balances,....) IF YOU THEN CHEAPEN OUT ON THE MAINTENANCE.
In engineering you'd think we'd have learnt that lesson, but sadly "NO, we have not!" There's always somebody who thinks that maintenance is for clowns and it costs too much UNTIL something breaks and it ends in tears.
Sadly America right now is a badly maintained system and *BOTH SIDES ARE TOO BLAME.*
The only question is will somebody step up before it crashes like a Boeing Max-8 or sinks like the Titanic.

What concerns me is the lack of cohesion that can happen in an organization that requires the ability to share information regardless of one's political persuasions. Instead, such organizations rely on shared values, loyalty to the Constitiution, committment to defending and protecting our democracy. These are large organizations, not small businesses. Information must be shared in the interest of protecting the nation. A leader whose loyalty is elsewhere cannot be trusted.
