Thank you for your review which is very helpful. I am thinking between the Asus Asus RT-BE96U or the Archer BE800. I like the Archer more even though the Asus is faster. I was considering the AiProtection as something worth considering but your test says it all: All malware is downloaded via HTTPS therefore the router has no way to know that it is a bad site (unless the site IP is blacklisted but I think Chrome checks this and its DNS does this too). Also it makes sense that it cannot intercept the ransomware sending the encrypted info/communicating wih the botnet as I imagine it being not only encrypted but very convoluted/distributed network. Thank you and have a good day.
Most people will just install devices these days and never even read T&Cs or the manufacturers hide away what they do with your data. The AiProtection would help people with no knowledge of security as is better than nothing, but I personally have other software install on my PCs so don't need to use AiProtection.
I am currently checking your you tube channel. Current looking for a review of parental control s in AI protection. For example controlling internet time usage on a daily basis.
Have you seen the beta firmware for rog rapture GT-ax11000 router? Still haven’t updated to the 41700 version, and wondering if that is safe. Also, if I update firmware, will it grab the BETA, as don’t want that, want a stable version. Lastly, is there any issues with the 41700 version you have experienced, should I update? Thx for your vids and help, love em👍🏻
Yes I have seen the beta firmware: 386.41994. I use my router for work and daily use so don’t like using beta software. If you download the firmware straight from the router then it will download the final version. The only issue I had was the slowdown on my WiFi speeds, but after a manual restart it was fine. I did complete a factory resetting as this is just something I do after every update.
@@EclipseReviews thx for info. Don’t know anything about factory resets, but wouldn’t that reset all your settings and SSIDs? Then you’d have to manually config again?
Yes sadly it does reset everything, but I save my settings temporarily then just copy all the settings back so does not take long. I don’t think you have to do this just something I do :)
Turn off AiProtection rm -rf /jffs/.sys/WBL/* rm -rf /jffs/.sys/AiProtectionMonitor/* Turn on AiProtection I did this fix then now it looks working again.
Hi, I believe I go on to explain what it offers (AiProtection) network protection. But will try to make it clearer for next time. Pi-hole I believe blocks ads which AiProtector does not but AiProtector has Trend Micro antivirus engine, IPS etc.. for more security but with the limitations I mentioned in the video.
@@EclipseReviews I tuned out before the end. That is something one expects to be gone over first not last. But its your video. So its another antivirus blanket but it does come with a performance hit and cpu usage increase. I had read it does send private info to trend micro as well. Maybe its good, not tried it before.
I welcome you’re feedback as you can my videos can be better 😀 Yes there was issues raised around the privacy as some of your private information could be sent to trend micro (ip address, websites visited) but they updated there privacy policy to give customers a bit more confidence.
@@EclipseReviews Did they update it only to explain they are taking the info? Usually if they are making money off the data they won't change. Its cheap to change the message for more transparency without actually changing anything they are doing.
That is a big difference in Ping, it may be with a lot of traffic the router is having to check using the AiProtection engine. If you have antivirus on you computer and use safe practices on the web then you should be ok if you want to switch off this feature is it affects you.

Did they improve the weak points in recent updates ?
I have this turned on unintentionally and was trying to find out why, I think its good to have additional security even if its a bit flimsy.
Yes it's not a replacement for good security software on the devices, but has stopped a lot of scam websites loading on my partners phone/tablet.
so take home message is that the loss of privacy isn't worth it?

The loss of privacy is trivial. Your ISP knows where you browse as well.
@@Capt-Intrepid Not if you use a private DNS. Quad9 is a great one if privacy is a concern.
So do trend Micro detect somting when you use open vpn on the router?

I will add this to my list to make a video review on the parental controls as would be useful.

@@EclipseReviews ok, that’s great; cuz haven’t got a clue as to how to do that, lol.
Thx again for the help🙏🏼
Cheers✌🏻
Just doing a video now to explain the beta version.
Going to do an update for this?
Hi, not much has changed within the Asus AiProtection features. But can do a refresh video to see if real time protect has improved.
@@EclipseReviews please do
I’m lost, as it seems it doesn’t really do anything.
I have RT-AC66U B1
with latest 3.0.0.4.386_43129 firmware and AiProtection always show 0.
Can you help me to fix this?
Turn off AiProtection
rm -rf /jffs/.sys/WBL/*
rm -rf /jffs/.sys/AiProtectionMonitor/*
Turn on AiProtection
I did this fix then now it looks working again.
why does it look like you have the protection turned off during the tests? the tests seem to be working, so what am i missing?
Why would you say "since we all know" You don't even tell what it is. Is this like Pihole blocker?
