    Thnx for the video. I have the Asus RT-AX86U. I'm experiencing the same problems as you mentioned with the 5GHz 160MHz option. Somehow it almost never broadcast it. I also bought the Asus RT-AX86U PRO version to see if that was any better. But no, I tested it for hours and hours changing all settings to try and get to work. But not even once with the PRO version. I even downloaded a bunch of Firmware versions including the Merlin one but nothing helped. So i returned the PRO version. Sometimes the RT-AX86U does connect with 160MHz on my Samsung S23U and my Laptop with Intel WiFi 160MHz supported card and yes it's really fast. But unfortunately it almost never does work. I also have 2 of the RT-AX92U routers. Does 2 are giving even more problems but that's another story 🫣
    I loved Asus until i encountered these problems like no 160MHz broadcast, Mesh system not working flawlessly (yes i use wired backhaul), dropping WiFi speeds sometimes etc etc.
    I'm probably going to invest in the TP-Link Deco BE85 or so.

    • @SamBondor
      @SamBondor  8 місяців тому

      I only had trouble with some DFS channels, but I could still use the 160MHz channel bandwidth. In your case it doesn't broadcast at all?
      The BE85 is a good choice if you have some WiFi 7 client devices, just steer clear of the Intel BE200 since it's a complete mess.

    • @ErikT595
      @ErikT595 8 місяців тому

      @SamsTechnologyReviews it does broadcast it sometimes. I have the feeling that maybe my neighbours WiFi is on the same (auto selected) channel which is 100 as mine and that's probably not helping. I manually switched to 104 and immediately 160MHz broadcast. But unfortunately still not always.

    • @SamBondor
      @SamBondor  8 місяців тому +1

      @@ErikT595You can check what channels your neighbors are using with any WiFi analyzer tool on a phone (most are free). Also, understand that the 160MHz is very, very sensitive to interference and that includes simple walls, not only neighboring WiFi networks. Hopefully other hardware will work better, but it's also possible that you may get a more stable network using the 80MHz bandwidth..

    What do you mean it can't be wall mounted? The holes seem identical to the AC3200, which can be wall mounted with either top or bottom up. You have to check for a gap on the sides of the hole since that's where the screw head goes, not the top like you did. Correct me if I'm wrong!

      I just put the AX88U Pro back in its box. Yes, the holes seem similar to those of the AC3200, but there is no gap. It's straight, so you can't hook it up a screw or anything similar.

      I too have the AX88U and it has been working flawlessly in years but I'm gonna switch my home network to the new 2.5Gbit FTTH and our router is not capable of managing that speed on any lan port so I'm considering buying this "new" pro version (only if I manage to sell the old one though cuz I spend a lot of money for the non pro version several years ago). The PRO version also has WPA3, VLAN, a better CPU and a significantly faster USB port (if you use it as a NAS).

    Hi, thanks for your review. I built a new PC that features two Ethernet ports, namely 2.5 and 1 Gbps, which can be combined through Windows 11 settings. I therefore have the modem 2.5 Gbps port connected to the PC, and a TP-Link 1 Gbps port also connected to the PC. If possible, I would like to know if this router, once connected to a 2.5 Gbps WAN port from the ISP modem will pass on the signal intact to the Wi-Fi LAN as well, and not only to the 2.5 Gbps LAN Ethernet port. Thanks for any input.

    • @SamBondor
      @SamBondor  3 місяці тому

      I hope I understood what you asked correctly. If your ISP gives you 2.5Gbps, the WAN port does support it as well, so that's the total bandwidth that you get available. The actual throughput that your client devices will see varies, but it should be above 1Gbps when near the router.

    • @paulorobertoelias8425
      @paulorobertoelias8425 3 місяці тому

      @@SamBondor Thanks for your reply. Actually. the ISP gives me 1 Gbps. In my previous motherboard, I had one single 1 Gbps Ethernet port, which was connected to the ISP's modem's 2.5 Gbps output. As a result, I got speed results of about 980 Mbps. I then installed a 2.5 Gbps PCIe extension card, and hooked it up to the modem. The PC revealed around 1056 Mbps download (Speedtest measurements). I went forward by hooking up another Ethernet cable from my TP Link I Gbps port to the PC. The Internet speed, as expected, did not change, however I started to get faster website downloads, which indicates a larger data throughput. I did not have to do any further configuration, because Windows 11 combined the two 2.5 and 1 Gbps ports automatically.
      In the beginning of the year, I built a new PC, with the ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, which has two Ethernet pots, namely 2.5 and I Gbps, and thus there was no need for a 2.5 Gbps adapter any more. The speed results were the same, though.
      At some point in the last built, I still could not find a router with a dual 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, so I kept the TP-Link 1 Gbps in use. I have always thought that the ideal built would be the 2.5 WAN and LAN in separate ports in the router, so that I could hook the modem's 2.5 port to the router, and from the latter to a 2.5 connection in the PC.
      Currently, I understand that both setups would work as intended. However, the RT AX-88U Pro has features beyond those required for my work load, so a replacement could be worthy. I am still not sure about doing this. That's why I asked you if the resulting Wi-Fi LAN from the Asus would benefit from the 2.5 Gbps route, i.e., modem to router, even considering my device's Wi-Fi adapters, which, as you know, will render whatever ISP speeds lower.
      At any rate, thanks again. Unfortunately the Asus router is not cheap in this country, so I cannot experiment and return to the seller if it fails to meet my expectations.

      @@paulorobertoelias8425 So, basically, you currently use link aggregation between the PC and the TP-Link router? Can I ask what sort of model do you have? The ASUS routers do support LACP (802.3ad), although from what I could see, it's for two Gigabit ports only (will look further into it). Then again, your max link is Gigabit..

    • @paulorobertoelias8425

      @@SamBondor Hi, thanks for your help. I have been using the TP-Link Archer AX73, in order to provide the 1 Gbps port to the PC. By the way, yesterday evening I got the Asus RT-AX88 Pro router delivered to me. My initial impression is that I have A LOT to learn about some settings of this router. At this point, I am not sure if the modem provided my ISP, the Sagemcom F@ST 5670, is LACP compatible, probably not. Also, the RT guidelines are not entirely clear to me about this support. I should have to connect two Ethernet cables from the modem to the router's WAN and LAN 4 ports. Well, the ISP's modem has the 2.5 Gbps port that I connected to the PC. In this case, I connected this port to the RT instead, and from the RTs 2.5 Gbps LAN port to the PC. This setup seems fine, even though previously I was getting a bit more than 1 GB from the ISP, and now around 984 Mbps.
      The other connection is now from the modem's 1 Gbps port to the RT's 1 Gbps LAN 4 port, according to the manual. This is not working, as far as I can see, and probably due to the lack of the LACP support from the ISP's modem. I phone today to the ISP's support, and they promised me to find out if their modem supports LACP. Currently, my subscription is for 1 Gbps only.
      At any rate, as I said, I still have a lot to learn. One thing that impressed me very much so far was the RT's Wi-Fi Smart Connect signal. I had this facility on the TP-Link AX73, it simplifies everything, but now the Wi-Fi signal is incredibly stable, as seen on my TV's streaming services and UA-cam as well. While setting up cables, I disconnect the routers cable from the modem, but the streaming went on as if nothing happened. I still don't know why, but nevertheless I was pleasantly surprised!

    What's the difference between Asus AX88U Pro and TUF-AX6000? Based on specs doubled RAM and different CPU. But will it be noticeable in real use, e.g. better Wi-Fi coverage or stability? TUF-AX6000 is also about half of the price of AX88U Pro.

    • @SamBondor
      @SamBondor  6 місяців тому

      More RAM is usually better if you intend to run some specific types of applications, such as VPNs. I haven't yet tested the TUF-AX6000, so I can't really be certain if it's better in terms of coverage and stability than the AX88U Pro, but there is one advantage that both the TUF-AX6000 and the AX4200 have, and it's the developing support of OpenWRT, if you're into third-party software.

I haven't confirmed yet, but it seems like every time the router DHCP lease ends (24hrs) my devices lose Internet connection for a few seconds and then they're back again. Any idea why? Can I ask why did you set the DHCP lease to last only 24 hours? Do you have lots of client devices that connect and disconnect over the day? If not, then raising the time to something like a month could solve it. Who knows, maybe the modem doesn't like the frequent DHCP requests..
