- Douglas Mills Jr. - Strange Fruit (written and composed by Abel Meeropol and recorded by Billie Holiday) - American Idol - Auditions 4 - S20-Ep04 - ABC - March 20, 2022
The control and texture of his voice at 18 is unbelievable
Billie Holiday would be so proud of this young man. Hope to hear so much more from him ❤️
Yes, she would be so proud
I was saying this too .like wow .such meaning and soul he put into it .
And Nina Simone
Amazing rendition of Strange Fruit; one of the most poignant songs of all time! This world is dying from lack of truth. Thank you for sharing.
My favorite audition EVER....on any competition show! People can be so cruel....but he pushed past all his fear and showed his gift to the world. Thank you!
He touched my soul
Sublime !
If music was still music, he'd be a star
This young man touched my soul. Listen to the words of this young.
One of the most powerful performances ever.....
This is absolutely beautiful. Rare moments when singing pierce body and soul. Bless this young man.
His voice is out of this world 😩
I cried like crazy. My... No OUR ancestors thank you ❤❤❤
OMG ! The best rendition of the song by a male singer ! EVER !
I’ve never come back to an audition soooo many times
No props for how brave it was to sing that song and WHY?
EXACTLY
and then to be eliminated off camera
Once upon a time Billie Holiday was told not to perform this song by the u s government. How much has changed and sacrificed for this man to be able to sing this song on national television. Black people in America should be proud of themselves and not oppressed by themselves
Exactly. The politically useful agenda pushing persistent victimhood does not serve them well.
Dear Mr. Douglas Mills, thank you for keeping the Honorable Ms. Billie Holiday's message alive. It's still valid and valuable till this day. Remember however, if DT unfortunately becomes President again, you may not legally perform this song again.
And why is that?
He gave me chills
He possesses the spirit of the ancestors. "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday. 1939.
Mesmerizing totally
Ohhhhhh wow, stunning.
I'm moved by him even knowing the words at such a young age!
Amazing!
It was like Billie was guiding him herself! I felt chills whew!
he sang it like nina simone’s version but yes billie would be proud
He did so well
I wish they had published the entire performance.
❤wonderful!
Voice students here is a good example of Legato, Vibrato & Falsetto. His hardwork paid off....obviously!!!
Wow❤
Such a haunting version. Absolutely perfect, but so sad
I hope he enters again. He is sooo very talented.
So wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time
Maybe it offends but the truth always hurt the wrong 🤔 doers
Bless you young man
Suppose photographic evidence will be disowned like holicaust
In 2002, the Library of Congress chose Billie Holiday’s version for the National Recording Registry.
Simply Beautiful Brother; I pray He go independent and be successful.
You’re all shocked because of the song!
It's the voice
No, why would anyone be shocked?
Wow, so good . . . and Fred was so good!
❤❤❤
Nina would be proud!! Sang it
You meant to say Billy Holliday and yes she would be proud after all these year those lyrics still hold a powerful push....
@@pezzyrolle Billy and Nina would be proud 👏
@@pezzyrolle nina simone has a version of strange fruit as well
DAMN
WOW
❤❤❤❤
Bem apelativo 🥱
Dear Lord.
That’s my choir teachers son GO DUG
Nina Simone + Jeff Buckley = This marvelous young man.
Why was he eliminated off camera????
sadly i think we know why…
@@moonlightbae6365 why?
@@moonlightbae6365What do you mean, we all know why? Are you implying racism was why. He didn’t do well because his nerves got the best of him. He was overwhelmed which is understandable being 18.
@@SM-qo6vs you said it not me!😘
Maybe because that song couldn’t get played back in the 1950’s so they didn’t want him to win off of that ancient voice and song in this era
Excellent but why did he only sing the final part of the song ?
This is Nina Simone's version.. i love it
He was tough
How did he do??? Please tell me he won
Okay Son😊
Why did he leave off the lyrics in the song Strange Fruit of black bodies swinging in poplar trees?
The song created a lot of government issues back in the day, I guess modern television wouldn't have liked it. Not a family show like this
I just read the trees by percival everett. everyone read it
Now this is the essence of the singing, black culture and black history. Strange Fruit is a song that should be impossible to do so the audience can enjoy the song, but he managed to do so, yet taking nothing away from the hard topic of the song. Amazing. The level of excellence that white people can only dream of achieving. And that's why I'm making party music :D
The meaning behind the song “Strange Fruit” only should have had Lionel Richie in tears😢 yet all he could say was utter nonsense!😡
You're mad cuz he ain't cry?
😪😪🥰
He left out the most inspirational part....the beginning. Why?
Because the fbi might have came after him to just like Billie Holiday
This song is, in my opionion, the best expression of racial oppression, gender and sexual oppression ever written. If you are part of an oppressive community this song is performed and written for us.
gender and sexual mutilation of minors
So much hate for black skin
H@ndsome🍅🌽⭕⁉️🙏
Why is she always so bitter
😮
Great job but them teeth needs to be brushed lordttt
❤❤❤
