Thanks for the driving videos. Between the Suburu driver and the empty garbage container, now I know why they call it W. Dodge Street. At least the driver signaled before they tried to hit you.

Michael, thanks for the comment and I did not notice he signaled first. That is kind of funny.

Definitely not the Crossroads (Mall) I remember.
Can't believe the old Commercial Federal Savings & Loans are still standing. I saw at least two of their buildings.
I grew up in the Sunny Slope neighborhood.

Wow... a lot of traffic near the UNO... I remember it being just two lanes though. Looks like they expanded the route 6 is a multi lane Highway all the way out to Kearny where before it was just a small Road from what I remember...didn't see 24hr dinner at 24th or 42 nd is that still there...a lot of new buildings ...and no bad drivers back then...

    • @DavidMatney

Dana, UNO has seen tremendous growth in the past decade. The old Ak-Sar-Ben track and stadium area has been torn down and now has some UNO buildings, condos and shopping. The area south of Center Street now has the UNO baseball stadium and the Baxter Area which is for UNO basketball. UNO also now has dorms as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

      @@DavidMatney i got two questions...
Where did all the extra people in Omaha come from??
      And where are they working??

    • @DavidMatney

@@danamiller9080 Great question. The Med Center which is now Nebraska Medicine has seen expansion. We continue to see growth out west Omaha especially the 1.2 billon dollar development in the Boys Town area. We have seen tech job growth and some now call the Omaha area the "Silicon Prairie." The Bellevue/Papillion area has seen growth in the Highway 370 corridor. Our unemployment rate as of May 2021 is only 2.7%. Seems like people are drawn to Omaha for the cost of living, job availability, schools and the people.

They certainly don't move to Omaha for the windy cold winters....lol
      Wow...silicone prairie...what companies started that seed ?
I was in the military so my job was on base but from what I could tell Omaha didn't have a lot of jobs...nebraska is predominantly Farmers farmland... and there's nothing wrong with farming farming is real hard work not a lot of people like to do hard physical work... my ancestors are farmers real big potato Farmers up in Maine...so hard work is no stranger to my dad and he passed that on to me...that certainly helps the football guys...go big red...it also helped with my football days.
I remember when the Nebraska Medical Center was new I'm glad to see they expanded that instead of tearing it down. I can't believe they tore down the SportsCenter. You said they tore down the building that had the indoor track in it.

@@DavidMatney Speaking of schools, could you do a video about them? Explain the districts, the quality of education, graduation rates. Any info. on kid/teacher ratio. School bus system. Snow/winter days. Private/charter schools. Conditions of school infrastructure. Do parents like the schools & teachers? Are kids taught traditionally or are they incorporating new ways/forms of learning? What do the schools excel at and leave to be desired?
Is there a community college in Omaha? How is that school? Do most kids out of high school go to UNO?
      Thanks again kind Sir.

      Hi David.
I’d like to see this drive both East & West during winter. It would be interesting to see the road conditions and how much it effects traffic.
Also, a drive North & South to/from downtown on HWY 75 from Hidden Valley Dr.
Obviously time and gas are precious commodities so take my requests with a grain of salt. Thank you.

Thank you David for making this video. Another nice "snapshot" of the core of Omaha.
    A few observations/questions please.
-I don't see a lot of foot traffic. Especially downtown. Do folks not wander around after work to grab dinner and enjoy a night out-on-the-town?
-At 1:25 video time, you pass a construction sight on your right. Do you know what's being built?
-At 5:25 video time, I notice the lane to your left is broken double yellow lines with vehicles traveling. It does not appear to be a center divide/left turn lane. What is the function/purpose of that lane? Commuter lane? Why broken yellow?

    • @DavidMatney
      @DavidMatney  3 роки тому +2

Great questions! Yes, we do have walking traffic it is mainly in the Old Market area. The Old Market area has trendy shops, restaurants, bars, etc. On the weekends they host farmers market. I will post a video of that area soon.
The construction site at 1:25 - not sure on that. We have seen alot of development in this area over the past several years.
The double line at 5:25. I believe it is open for traffic (westbound rush hour) and it is open for traffic (east bound) for morning traffic.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
