This was one of the first times Saiki did an introduction to a song. Her speech is guaranteed to bring a tear.
A love letter to the fans...one of their most beautiful songs. Heartbroken, yet still hopeful, after their having to cancel their Budokan debut. Saiki's statement to the fans before the song moves people to tears, but hopeful tears.
The Maids kicked off their US tour at Aftershock a rock festival. Fancams of their show are being reacted to because of their live performances. They also met The Warning for the first time another female rockband.
The day they played this song was the day they were supposed to have performed at Budokon Tokyo, which is probably one of the biggest goals for any Japanese artist. Unfortunately, a certain pandemic spoiled this event for the ladies. Watch the song again with lyrics, and you will understand that this song is a kind of 'love letter' to all their fans out there, which will multiply the feeling the song already carries many times over. Even today, 1 1/2 years later, I still have a lump in my throat when I see this video or hear this song. 🤍✨

Oh how I wish they could have played at Budokan...
"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Their beautiful DVD/BD/CD set with 100 page picture book of this incredible concert is unbelievable! Thanks TiTD, for bringing "About Us" to your viewers!
Knowing that the ladies are about to start their US tour makes this song just a bit less sad and a whole lot more hopeful. Viva la MAIDs🌹

Maybe one of the best love songs made..
And it was dedicated to the fans.
Supposed to be revealed at their Budokan concert, but instead of a new wave of COVID, it sadly was cancelled. So an online concert was done. Pretty sure it went hard on the girls since it was supposed to be the highlight of their career. A sign that they had made it.
When i saw the "unleash" video, i kind of get the vibe that it tells that, Miku who always had been pushing them, for the first time lost faith. Probably went into a little depression.
Kanami had always come to her for support, and they all stand kind of apathetic in a dark room. Not too unlike these online concerts. Then Saiki deicides to sing, and all follow.
You see: at the online concert we kind of got the feeling that Miku had little to say.
She probably wanted to say something before "About us", but struggled to find the words.
So her and Saiki had a little talk, before ms Atsumi showed her softer side. telling the fans about not giving up, and that things would change and we would meet again.

A Super Fan (t-shinji) translated Saiki’s pre-song speech just before it was performed:
"We were supposed to meet you today. For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault.
We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. In the beginning, we were very surprised because we hadn’t experienced it before, and we had no experience of not being able to meet others in person. We were sad, but we found we shouldn’t be sad in this situation. When I saw you masters and princesses on social media, you were more depressed than us, and we thought that’s terrible.
We Band-Maid have been thinking about how to cheer up all of you in the last one year. We truly wanted to meet you at Nippon Budokan, but it’s impossible because of COVID, so let’s wait for the day when we can meet.
And in the last one year… or in the COVID pandemic, we have become more eager to cheer you up, and we Band-Maid realized again it’s important to give our songs to you.
That’s why we wrote this song for Budokan.
We made the album also in the pandemic, so it might have a little similar feel, but this song is planned for Nippon Budokan, and we really want to give it to you masters and princesses now.
Budokan is not our goal but just a stepping stone. We will perform at bigger venues, and we promise we will bring you there and give you even better songs, so let’s keep it up a little more.
This is our present for you masters and princesses. Please listen to it."
This song is a love letter to their Masters & Princesses (fans) who were suppose to perform in front of a crowd, but due to COVID, could not do so.
EVERYTIME I see "This MV".... my eyes get itchy.....every time.
There are ballads, there are power ballads (like daydreaming) then there is this. An emotional uplifting ballad
The Band at the time said that the fans seemed to be more upset than even they were that they couldn't make the concert at the Budokan because of Covid. So they wrote this. As others have said the moving little speech that Saiki gave before the online concert of this song was brilliant. They really are a very special bunch of musicians.

This is the second Band Maid song that made this old man weep openly. The first was 'Page' from the live Line Cube during the World Domination tour.
All of their music is wonderful, but some do touch the heart more than others.

This was my response, as well, when I heard this song for the first time. It is still my response when I hear this song. . . and possibly a tear or two. 😭
Miku’s back up vocals and harmonies are outstanding. Some of Kanami’s guitar lines are almost like a 3rd vocal part. And not much more needs to be said about Saiki, Misa and Akane. They are all brilliant!
I heard at least 10 wows, so it must be a pretty good song.
This is a love song to their fans.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 Band-Maid fans have been claiming that this beautiful song is an amazing messages for Maidiacs who have supported B-M for a long time. That is true. However I believe this song is also addressing people who were not Maidiacs yet. As you can hear, Saiki is sinking "accept someone for who they are" at 01:56 in your video. I am a newbie fan of Band-Maid, but this song gets to my heart. FYI, I witnessed this song played live on Sep.7 at the venue. Zepp DiverCity Tokyo. ヽ(^o^)丿

Always happy to see your videos pop up on my timeline, but one thing: Could you take a look at your mixing? Your voice is like 10 times as loud as the music. So if I don't want my eardrums to rupture everytime you talk I have to lower the volume of the video to a point where I hear literally nothing of the music. Besides that, keep it up :)
