Thank You. Took me a second and a swear word or two but I changed my tube and thanks to your video was able to get my disc rotator/through axel wheel up and mounted properly. Thanks.
Excellent video, best ever seen on wheel removal and replacement with Disc brakes. I have had a puncture for about 2 weeks now pondering on how to remove the wheel. Thank you.
Also a good idea to spin your wheel & make sure it isn't rubbing the brake disk rotor, if it is just loosen the two bolt holding the caliper in place, squeeze your brake lever (which will automatically align in correct, then tighten up whilst still squeezing the lever (I sometimes recruit someone to do that part for me). This has always realigned it perfectly for me.
Cheers for this video. Now I can go buy my bike which has thru axles rather than quick release as I was a little worried that they would be a little slow.
I have a SLe. It has a thru axle bold with two nuts. It doesn’t look like that. How does that go together and what is the torque settings for this type of thru axle?
Really useful video just to see the process! Seems like a much better design than the dropout type axles, it's just like a dinky version of what motorbikes have!
I have a specialized fatboy and it has a through axel and is exactly like this I seen another guy withva through axel but his had like a quick release looking nut on the end .I wish mine had that so much easier then having to carry Allen keys
question: I have a Ribble eBike and thought I'd better familiarise myself before being roadside with a puncture. I can't turn the 6mm Allen key at all on the thru axle. I don't want to over force it. I am going anticlockwise and I am applying a decent amount of pressure. Can I do damage by really upping the force to my max strength? thank you!
Do you carry that big 6MM T-shaoed Allen wrench and your torque wrench with you when you go out for a long ride? I dont think so. Now what multi-tool do you use. I miss Quick Release (QR) spindles.
is it better if the wheel is off the ground on a stand when reinstalling the front wheel? or can the wheel be placed between the forks with the wheel in the ground?
My bike was brand new and this is probably the wrong way to do it but I just tightened the front axle until the disc stopped scrubbing against the pads when I rotated the wheel
And without a torque wrench...? Not everyone has this tool (even if they should). Is it dangerous if you under or over tighten? Can the wheel fall out?
Just got finally a mountain bike. It come with a thru axle. My quiestion is ( the rear axle treed doest go all the way in to the treed itself in the gear side of the frame before i cant tighten up the axle? It seems that i goes in only half the way... Is it normal?
i'm a noob with disk brakes. If the thru axle is aligned and fits in between the forks and secures the wheel, and the rotor is aligned between the brake pads inside the caliper, does that mean the wheel should be installed and positioned properly? guy at the bike shoppe made it look easy. I put the front wheel on when I got home... rotor is rubbing when the wheel spins, i can hear it. wtf.
If you do squeeze the breaks with the wheel off, and you can't get the wheel in, and you're fixing a flat on a ride, then what do you do? Just want to plan for worst case....because you just never know.
Most people that I see riding these types of bikes don't carry these tools on the road.Wait until you get a flat and you were not prepped for this ordeal to remove and put back in your wheels to frame.Great demonstration though to show how to get back on the road.
I have such a multi tool and I found it impossible to loosen the rear axis! Am I missing something? I love my R872 and was about to buy the Endurance SL R but now I’m thinking it over. Can it be that there’s no easier way to remove the tyres?
If you have a puncture kit you should also have a multitool with some Allen keys. There are so many things on your bike that could come loose and a simple multitool will get you home.
I don't care about how to remove and replace a wheel equipped with thru axle, I want to see how to remove the stock rotor and axle and how to replace them with a rotor for the thru axle!
This bike was really easy to assemble ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
I for one don't know if that is 10 N•m or inch•lbs. I would guess N•m, but I'll have to look it up. I have settings for both units on the automotive micro-torque wrench I use.
i doesnt see road bikers with torque wrench when biking.. sooooooo there is the question.. if i go for a ride and get a flat in the middle of the forest, for this cases i have to bring with me a heavy torque wrench or what?
This video is telling you the wrong information ! The front wheel and rear wheel have different Hex or Allen key sizes. This is not pointed out in the video and should be corrected.
@Cloud You seem to be quite a sad person and I feel sorry for you if that is the only way to express yourself ! You don’t seem to have the intelligence to say anything but what you have said. You offer no explanation as to the comments I made about this video. You should take a long hard look at yourself. I hope you can change and I wish you a good day.
Excellently explained. Couldn’t be clearer. Finally, some one who posted this on youtube with a straight full and simple explanation.
Hi Peter, there are loads of great videos on our UA-cam channel. Definitely worth a look. KP @ Ribble
Agree, spent ages trying to find this, thanks
⁰⁹.
These types of videos are useful for people like myself who might be a little less mechanically minded with bikes. Keep em coming please. :-)
Very clear - always had quick release so wasn't quite sure what to do with the Thru Axle. Really useful and helpful for those not naturally handy!
Glad to see this has been able to help you out David. J@Ribble.
Thank You. Took me a second and a swear word or two but I changed my tube and thanks to your video was able to get my disc rotator/through axel wheel up and mounted properly. Thanks.
You're welcome Erik! Happy riding. E@Ribble
Excellent explanation of what I needed to know Murray.
The best out there.

Easy method to hold the brakes while adjusting the alignment is to use a rubber band.
Thank you, I've never removed one of these axles before so this was helpful!
Best instruction. Clear concise. Thank you.
This video is bloody brilliant, thank you
Glad it helped! JB@Ribble
Great video. Extremely useful and clear. Thank you very much.
Thanks man! This was the video I was looking for
Cheers for that Murray. A very clear and concise video.
Exceeds expectations!
You need to give the units for the torque, it's 10 Nm (Newton meters) not just 10. People might get confused with Lb ft etc,
Really useful video just to see the process! Seems like a much better design than the dropout type axles, it's just like a dinky version of what motorbikes have!

Most multi-tools have a 6mm hex bit. The torque wrench is not necessary for a get you home fix - just do it up tightly.
Thank you! Nice video! Keep it simple!
is it better if the wheel is off the ground on a stand when reinstalling the front wheel? or can the wheel be placed between the forks with the wheel in the ground?
That's great if you have that fancy stand.
Brake protector inserts helpful if transporting. Little plastic piece fits in between.
very detail and nice explanation, thanks
Would a typical 100mm front and 120mm rear wheel fit with ribbles thru axels?
Hi, on my Merida Scultura 400 I have to turn the thru axle clockwise to loosen the axle. Is this normal for Merida??
My bike was brand new and this is probably the wrong way to do it but I just tightened the front axle until the disc stopped scrubbing against the pads when I rotated the wheel
I'd have mentioned to put some grease on the axle if it's gone
Thanks that's what I was here for. Mine has zero from new and it seemed like a thing that should have some.
Hmm!.. don’t forget to bring your 6ml wrench and torque wrench when you are out riding!
no need for torque when riding, just tighten to a similar torque you would when at home
Just the job. V. useful.
top marks, well presented 🚲👏☘️
Thanks Tony, Murray is now a team mechanic with Team DSM the lucky so and so! 😁A@ribble

Hi, if you over tighten it can damage the carbon so would always recommend a torque wrench. J @ Ribble
@@RibbleCyclesChannel Thanks. I actually just bought a torque wrench after getting a puncture and watching your videos!

What do you if you can't remove the axle after unscrewing it as much as possible? Mine just clicks and isn't coming out.
What happens if you get a puncture on the road? Nobody will carry a torque wrench
You use human torgue
@@popitn2nd common sense isn't so common anymore
@@sethmichael8188 nope
Tighten til you hear a crack then back a quarter turn. Easy
There are small torque wrenches small enough with 10Nm rating to tighten the thru axle
Mine, (Vitus) I sheared the bolt. Turns out it screws out backwards. 🤷♀️
What torque wrench do you use
It's an M-Part torque wrench. You can pick them up for about £50. I use a Lifeline torque wrench and its been brilliant. A@ribble
Clear

how do you 'set it to 10' on the torque? is it just hand tight?
Your torque wrench will be able to alter to 10nm. J @ Ribble
@@RibbleCyclesChannel What if your Torque Wrench only goes to 11? (Spinal Tap reference)

You can force them open with anything that is thin enough to slide between them.
Pain though if you get a puncture but more secure and rigid than a QR skewer.
Most bikes come with a thruaxle quick release so there’s no difficulty in getting it out.

Arthur McNeal most people carry a multi tool that'll fit the axles to get them on and off

My Bike has a SOLID through-axle rod (no Allen Key option). In other words, this video is of no use to me. How do I remove the original solid axle???
cool
Without stand please
I have this bike... only now I realise its a through axle on it!
I don't care about how to remove and replace a wheel equipped with thru axle, I want to see how to remove the stock rotor and axle and how to replace them with a rotor for the thru axle!
It's a lot easier with the bike in a service stand. Let's see you do that without the stand.

The size used will vary from bike to bike, just check the specs of your own bike before removing the wheels? Just common sense really.
