    Fantastic! Best demo of the FB2 out there; especially liked the piano. Around 8mins, you trigger the ADSR with the Sub37: is it the audio coming from the Sub37 directly in or is it the Sub37 sequencer sending a note on each beat to retrigger the envelope. Sorry, I'm confused how to actually trigger the restart. Thank you!

      God knows what goes on with Logics timing. It might be my 10 yr old Mac Pro... but when it was 5 years old it was doing it.... bit by bit audio goes out of sync as I build a track. Close and re-open and it’s still there. Incredibly annoying when recording vocals as I have to guess where it should be which detracts from timing nuances of a performance :(

    Awesome video! I just got an FB2 and am learning how to properly use it. Already I can get some very nice Basic Channel-esque textures going. At 34:00 you are sending a signal from a different channel within your DAW to the Trigger input on the FB2. So I would needed another designated output on my soundcard to activate that correct? I'm a super beginner with analog routing lol.

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  Рік тому +1

      Yes, but if you e only got a stereo output you can have one signal left and one right - the inputs on the filterbank are mono

    hey trine too figure out wether i should go with the original or the new compact, you were saying some of the knobs on yours needed to be replaced even though it had barely been used?? Secondly, are the compact and the original the exact same as far as sound or is there a bit of difference (if so i don't want too compromise) I've seen some demos on youtube of what this thing can do I'm looking to get some industrial madness going... thanks Starsky

      FYI the potmeters can crack a bit when long time not in use, it disappears when turned/ used more often. Best to minimize smoke and high humidity. If not helpful, cleaning with DEOXIT or PRF7-78 or similar can do wonders.

  • @Bun_P_
    @Bun_P_ 3 роки тому

    howdy,
    thanks for the enjoyable sherman tutorial; it was both incredibly informative and relaxing (i even dozed off to one of the loops with the headphones on) ...
    i'm curious to know what your experience has been like for routing signal to the filter for live/tracking use. i was setting it up on a send from my mackie (and having the two outputs return to open channels on the mixer) and using the pre-fader level button for aux 1 so that i could track & play sounds through the filter, rather than processing something recorded after the fact ... but using pre-fader level can be a little limiting (no EQ etc.) and, conversely, using the post-fader level (and having the original dry signal present on a separate channel) was causing all sorts of crazy phasing sounds (as you could probably imagine).
    it sounds like you're sending things 100% to the filter in this video (and it looks like you've got the Byp/Eff knob completely to Eff) ... and that sounds amazing. curious to know if you've any other suggestions or input on the matter.
    thanks again for the video,

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  3 роки тому +1

      It's a bit odd that you're getting phasing.. sounds like maybe the return is out of phase... there may be a phase invert button to sort that, depending on which mixer you're using. If it's analog I wouldn't expect any lag to create the phasing, but if it's digital maybe.
      My main tip which I mention a couple of times is ti use another sound to trigger the envelopes - that way you can get much finer control without heading into mental distortion.
      Thanks, and glad you liked it... they take so much time its always nice to hear its not in vain :)

    • @Bun_P_
      @Bun_P_ 3 роки тому

      Starsky Carr i'll have to keep exploring the phasing issue; thanks for the reply and suggestions. meanwhile, your demos are far from in vain (copyrighted filter-sweeps be dang'd); your trigger input suggestion is a Must with the Sherman and your videos are one of the only places i'd encountered said suggestion! keep up the good work; it's appreciated!

    Quick question about the triggering.
    What exact trigger signal comes from the Sub 37?
    I understood using the beat as a trigger, but I don't get the sub 37?

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  3 роки тому +2

      It’s just to ensure I’m getting a big enough signal to trigger the envelopes, so using a simple sawtooth with no attack. It means you have complete control over the envelop start times and can reduce the input volume to reduce distortion for more subtle effects.

      I’ve got the mutronics plugin as well but find that I can tell it sounds like a plug-in. They said they got it super close to the hardware but really, just watching your video the sound of this sounds much thicker than the plug-in I have.

      Just sending a simple sawtooth to trigger the envelopes. It’s nice and loud so giving definite start/end points so you can have fine control of the envelopes.

    Hallo Starsky! It was hard for me to understand the relation between sensitivity+/- and envelope +/-. With the manual and your clip, finally i get it. But sorry for one question more. At that point where in your clip, space was illuminated and you was modulating the input signal with fm input. Wich wave you had as input signal and wich in fm input? And was the processing with the H9 pre or post. I mean did you had the reverb other the FM signal or other Main Out and Out1.
    Regards

      I will have just used a simple sawtooth tone for the FM input.. and added the FX in post production.

      @@StarskyCarr haha! Thats' great! After hearing your amazing demo, I'm 100 percent that they used that filter on many of the intense moments on that record. I've been looking for that signature grungy warble and showed me where and how to achieve it! thanks!!

    Amazing video! I recently ordered Filterbank and RNC 1773 to limit the filters peaks. What setting would you suggest for the compressor to tame the filter? I will receive it in about a week, so I want to be prepared.

      Also, do you use line level splitter to send the same signal to adsr trigger and signal in?

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  4 роки тому

      You don’t have to, the signal in doubles as the trigger... but it’s more controllable if you send another stringer signal into the trigger like I do I think the video.

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  4 роки тому

      I can’t say, it completely depends on the signal. For safety though you could set a high ratio as a limited with a fast attack... but high threshold. You don’t want to limit everything, just the loads peaks. I don’t actually use one on it. Once you understand what it’s doing it’s much more controllable than most demos would have you believe. Just be gentle with the tweaking at first ;) and enjoy yourself

    Great demo. I'm on the fence still. What I ideally want is filter freak 2 in hardware this seems like the closest most affordable option. Do you need to send a trig from another source to get the ADSR to work? It can't cycle on its own?

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  8 місяців тому +1

      It can trigger the ADSR without a specific trigger input, there’s a trigger level to set the input trigger volume for the ADSR. I just find it’s more controllable with one…. And once it’s plugged in it’s there to use.

      Does the ADSR cycle though like an lfo?

    i've been watching this quite a few times but i don't get it with sense and gate trigger. Do i need both? Are both active in the beginning, because you say "now it is only sense trigger" but then you move the green env of the gate trigger on the right side. But latet you plug another cable in and recommend to do so. maybe my English is just to bad, but would you be so nice to explain it again? thanks a lot!

      ps the "sense" trigger is like triggering an Env with CV? But the other trigger, is it only for the LFO?

    • @ShermanFilters

      @@StarskyCarr hi for all who read this and clarity : only the single rack and double rack models have the extra LFO out jack. So not the classic and compact models. If the jack is half -plugged it delivers square wave output (tip = triangle signal, ring = square wave signal)

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  Рік тому

      The compact is exactly the same circuitry but housed in a smaller body.
