- I thought I'd be as fair as possible with the new Tacoma. I was very disappointed when I first got it and found the issues that I discussed in the review videos. This can sway your thoughts when first driving it, so, after a couple of days, I took it out again to give it a good work out.
I headed up to a favourite spot to put it through its paces against the Range Rover. Having been so impressed by the Rangey, it seemed like the obvious choice and was clearly something that it should be keeping up with.
I'd already upgraded the wheels and tyres on the Range Rover, so I took a set of heavier wheels with General Grabber tyres to try out on it.
Overall, I have to say, I came away feeling a lot more positive about the Tacoma and, apart from the awful noise, I really enjoyed driving it. So much so that I decided to take it to the UK Scaler Nationals a few days later. Watch this space for some videos from that event.
Back to the question of whether you should buy one? Well, the RRP is looking like it will be about £410 / US$430. This leaves you with a few questions to ask yourself:
a) How much do I want a Tacoma rather than one of the other Carisma cars?
b) Do I want a RTR or a kit?
c) Do I want a trail truck or a rock crawler?
If the answers are:
a) I love Toyotas and want a great-looking Tacoma
b) I can't be bothered building a kit but don't mind greasing the gearbox
c) I want a trail truck
then this might be the car for you! (or you could buy a kit, the bodyshell and use your spare electronics)
The big selling points have to be the body and front lights, the Arc2 ESC and the great (but ugly) transmitter. So, if you want those, get one ordered!
I'm enjoying it but the classic Range Rover will always trump it.

Oh Mr. RC Pie I see your a Carisma fan. I have the Carisma Coyote 2.1 with upgraded esc with programmer from what I can tell it’s the same chassis as the Tacoma. So it appears you have secured the bed because it’s not drooping or moving around a lot. That’s been the only negative I’ve heard of. On my Coyote I put on the original wheelset with tires that came off my Sendero. Those tires are bigger & although not as scale man did it change the performance it will out climb some of my more expensive RC’s. Doesn’t seem like there’s many upgrades for the Carisma Crawlers. The Tacoma is the next RC on my list I just got the new TRX High Sierra & switched out the rims for metal beadlocks but in a straight out Crawling battle pretty sure the old Carisma would out crawl it.
The Coyote is closer to the Range Rover. A shorter wheelbase than the Tacoma but otherwise very similar.
Yeah, I sorted the bed bounce. A very simple and quick fix. I show you how in the review Part 2.
Slightly bigger tyres really help because the diff pumpkins are quite big.
I had my RR out today and it was showing up TRX4s on quite a few sections. Sometimes light and simple are the best way. I love my RR.
There are a few upgrades available from Carisma and I hope to do some videos about them soon.
@@rcpie Nice I’ll definitely have to tune in. And the light & simple comment rings a bell because you are right I’m pretty sure a lot of it strength to weight ratio. I noticed the second I picked up my Coyote it was light. And that motor in it is pretty darn good.
I bought the same truck 3 weeks ago I agree about what u said my truck same thing I'm going to check my truck out to I'm getting new wheels today or tomorrow and grease it up and fix the bed Thanku for the information

It's a decent trail truck but I have to admit it's low down in the pecking order of trucks that I choose to drive regularly. I think the body just isn't my thing and it isn't worth the compromise in performance to me. For that, I'd rather have a hard body and do scale driving.
I hope you have some good fun driving it, though.
I think it will be a good truck I like the look I'm going to the rc shop tomorrow to get the grease I have a buggy to from carisma my buggy runs nice I do like the brand
I love my Range Rover and there are some amazing bodies from Carisma. The Taco just doesn't float my boat. I think I'll stick a different Carisma body on it.
I meant to ask, what wheels and tyres are you going to go for?
I'm get bead locks for my rcs I don't know the brand off my head
