I was a kid through Dana's acting career and had quite a crush on her. I kept up with her exploits through the tabloids after the show ended, and was surprised to hear of her passing. I will never understand why she couldn't find anything else to fill the turmoil in her life.

I knew about the armed robbery. I remember during that time that legendary singer and actor Wayne Newton put up the collateral for the bail money to get her out of jail. I remember he said that he did not know her, but he felt she deserved a second chance. Clearly, this young lady was beautiful, intelligent, and talented, but she lacked the maturity and the mental foundation to proceed in life.
I remember they did a broadcast on her, a television movie based on Plato, years ago, and one of the things was that she thought that her money was going to last forever.
Instead of investing it and living off of the interest and budgeting her money correctly.
She hooked up with some knucklehead loser, and the two of them squandered her fortune and 6 years later, after Different Strokes ended, she was robbing video stores at gun point.
Again, it is a shame that she didn't have a good foundation in life thanks to her mother drug issue. I guess she learned that from her, and she taught it to her son. The video indicated that he (son) committed suicide by gunshot and had a drug problem as well. It is sincerely a shame that she is no longer with us. She had such potential and was such a natural actress and a beauty. I do not believe that she committed suicide. This was clearly an accidental overdose.
RIP: Dana Michelle Plato, born Dana Michelle Strain; November 7, 1964 - May 8, 1999, age 34. ✝️

It should also be noted that her mother used a loophole in the Coogan Act and had herself listed as the executor to it and she stole almost all the money that was supposed to be secure in it

Lies, Dana's mom, Kay, had trust funds for Dana and Dana had millions of dollars, just before her mom died from a horrible rare form of cancer. But due to her mom dying, her getting divorced from her husband, a corrupt accountant stole most of her money and left her with just $250,000. He also didn't pay the IRS and Dana owned over $110,000 to the IRS. Her "Strokes" residuals was paying for that. This all from an interview she personally did in the May 8, 1990 National Enquirer, I own it.

I was never clear whether it was suicide or not. In an interview, she spoke about a movie she did called "Jack and Jill and Jill," describing a scene where she was kissing another girl. She said, "Our chests touched and suddenly it was X-rated!" like she was surprised that would give the movie an X rating. Hopefully, she is at peace now.

What you didn't mention is why she reduced to armed robbery in the first place. The people she trusted to take care of her money she made from "different strokes"stole every penny from her . People that did her taxes to people that supposedly cared for her. So in order to survive she was reduced to a petty criminal but the real criminals got away with their crime against her while she was having to face the consequences of her own crimes though no fault of her own was reduced to. You can make a lot of money in Hollywood but they find a way to get it back by surrounding you with professional thieves. Grey Coleman, attempted suicide twice because of similar issues.

This video has so much wrong. First, Dana acted alone in the video store robbery, the guy mentioned, Robert Menchaka, was the boyfriend she was with, right before she passed away, and was the guy who took photos of her, dying. So that was 1999, the Video Store was 1991. And second, Dana's adopted mom didn't squander all of Dana's money away. She was very careful with it. She had it set up in trust funds and so on. Dana's money was stolen by a corrupt accountant. And the guy Dana was married too, her son's father, Lanny, he spent a lot of her money on cars, boats and various other material items. She too spent alot on her drugs and drinking. You can go on Wikipedia and get the real facts.

@@FactsVerse maybe you can make more mysteries. A good example would be, a video about Gary Coleman. You can talk about his life. Then you can talk about his death. There is so much information and much of it is conflicting. Don’t put a conclusion at the end of the video. I mean don’t give an answer as to what you think happened. Give the facts and leave it open for discussion. People love to discuss in the comments. Todd Bridges said “ he believes Gary was unalived” I haven’t researched this in years, to see if he still stands by his statement. I just found it weird and sad , that Gary’s wife would sell his hospital photos. Who does that? If your loved one is sick, you don’t take pictures.
