in the fluid recommendations, how did you get 805 ml FW/L? to get a summation of 954 mL FW or 950 mL? and where did the 1750 mL/day get? Sorry I can't follow through.
Good question! If the pt's PO intake increases or decreases significantly, changes may be necessary with the formula recs. This can be a good point to educate your patient (and/or any caregivers) on what calories you anticipate they get PO and what calories they will get from formula as well as ways to modify either to maintain appropriate intake. Talking with the pt and evaluating their needs and PO intake consistency will guide what education is necessary. Also, if you are inpatient only, you can consider referring them to an outpatient RD for follow up (they very well may already have one if they are long term EN pts).
