Irish Darkness Vs American Optimism | TOMMY TIERNAN

- American's are a lovely bunch, but by god are they far too positive for Irish people to deal with. We're a more melancholy sort when it comes to things, so let me tell you any kind of American optimism will be met with a swift smack in the face and a pint in the other hand.

My dad had Irish Alzheimer's; he forgot everything but the grudges.
😂
😂😂
We have a saying here in Ireland, “ the two things an Irish man can hold, is his drink and a grudge! 🤣🤣🤣
Yes!!
Racist
"You have a fundamental darkness". No greater compliment could be paid to an Irishman. It has produced from within us the most impactful literature, music and diplomacy of any nation. Darkness cuts to the heart of any matter quickly and with devastating clarity. You should try it sometime.
The kind of diplomacy that saw you sit aside and watch the rest of the world fight the nazis?
@@tonymorph3672 No, the kind of darkness that led to us sending our condolences to Germany on their loss 😅
@@KJ_2020 🤣🤣🤣🤣✌🇮🇪
@@KJ_2020 Now thats funny!!!
@@tonymorph3672 "oh no theyre bombing London..." 🙃
"that's right Joe you have a nice day, just get on the bus" 😂😂😂😂
Americans, am I right?
Being Irish is dragging Americans into the "Real World" ... The Darkness is great, its where the humour is.
Irish like to stand in the shade even if it’s dark
My brother in law and I love this whole set, we'd watch it often when he'd get back from deployment. American btw.
Couldn't be righter! Loved it!
you have similar customs to the Scots, I have been there for over 7 years, dark humour indeed x
He's absolutely right. We think we're supposed to feel great all the time, so we think we're failures when we don't, which is inevitable.
Tommy Tiernan is brilliant in every single thing I've ever seen him in, whether it's comedies or stand-up or whatnot. Absolute genius. Fantastic entertainer.
"have a nice day" 🤣🤣🤣🤣"good luck" 😂😂😂😂 I'll use that one
"Good luck" I always giggle when I say that now 😂
"Have a nice day!" - I'm definitely with the Irish there
This is interesting as someone who is from neither of these countries, because I think the Irish are a quite jolly and happy folk as well (but on a more real side than Americans). But when you’re from Austria almost every other country seems to be „more friendly“ I guess.😅
Agreed! I am Norwegian and just about every other country is more extroverted and open than mine, so this comparison is gold!
Ahh but the Irish cheer is just a blend of alcohol and madness 😜, with a smidge of “ach sure what’s the worst that can happen” and we’re proud of it. 😉
@@JenniD1990 I love it!
Ah you guys are right to be more laid back, Irish insecurity means we need to feel liked I think, so we can be a bit over bearing and loud compared to other Europeans, thankfully some of you don’t mind that.
Ha watching this in chicago and from Ireland. It's so true.i fell asleep last night in the wrong bed in the hostel, woke up to the dude screaming about calling the cops. .because I fell Asleep in the wrong bed on my first night. 2 air hostesses the rudest I've ever met and travelled 1000s of times on Ryanair. Left saying "have a nice day" I'd rather they said fuck off and been real, this country is already annoying me,even though my wife and kids are american, this country is very different. E.u is better. Free hospital and less angry hospitality
Lol that Joel Olsteen part 😂
Something wrong with those people who are always happy Tommy, it’s not natural 😉
forreal us many of us Americans are losing our minds and our culture basically prohibits discussing anything negative 🤣
He's seen Joel Osteen live? Ugh, poor thing .I've only seen him on TV, and the smarm could blind a man at ten thousand paces.
Joel Osteen would definitely have been on George Carlin's kill list.
Disinfected from this toxic optimism 🤣🤣🤣
Elegantly put
Used to go to the clubs in Manhattan, 16 years old, the Sixties, saw some of the best- Four sides Irish, you hit the mark, Tommy, brilliant and many thanks!
Love the Irish humour 🙂 Hello from Australia Tommy. Love you xo
My favourite comedian of all time!!!!
Howling. My Dad was Irish. He is spot on.lol
Been unwell for a few days. Tommy and spike Milligan have got me through it. Ta
Good company in bad times
My dad was born in Manchester but his parents and a lot of his family Fermanagh in Ireland. As we drove to his granny and our great grannies birthday every year. He would say don’t worry kids she’ll be dead next year. But my mums mum was from Liverpool her dad Welsh. As my maternal granny was getting older my mum would say we are going to have to drag her into the woods and shoot her as she’s not going to die. I grew up with this being the norm. I have met and made friends with people from the States. Had some good times with them.
My grandmother regular says "If I was a dog they would've shot me by now." 😆
Come to think of it, so does me mam... 🤔
Seems we like to pass it down.
@@fightinandirish Yeah I'm surprised and shocked often when I sound or find myself thinking like my Dad.
@@Oooo-bi7bi Well it's like they say "He didn't lick it off the stones." 😁
'Just get on the bus...!' 😂😂😂
As an ameircan with irish roots, speak for yourself when speaking about americans! Lmao! So accurate about osteen😂
Love this
That was hysterical.. thanks!
Your helmet has your name on it
😆🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Me being drunk = sitting in the one spot for several hours 🤣🤣🤣
It's so much fun being Irish 😂
@The mysterious Miss X No
You are hilarious!
"Your helmet has your name on it."
Tea all over the laptop 😂. Plus developing a bit of a crush now 🤭😍
You went to JOEL OSTEEN? Dude, you're Irish. You'd be much more at home, incidentally, at my synagogue.
He saw him on Tv..I thought he said. Irish American Catholics do not go to Joel Osteen. Just sayin'.
If you can have sex while drunk you're still sober and need to drink more in order to count as drunk
Disinfectant for this toxic optimism - I think I have just acquired my new mantra.
We don’t think much of Joel Osteen either
This works for most of 🇬🇧 and you can substitute US for AUS… same differences re outlooks
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You know you love us! 😍
Do we by FUCK!
Hilarious!
God I love Tommy's fucking humour. Come to Newcastle.
Honest to God, no word of a lie there...
So imagine how mixed up I am being an American of Irish descent. LOL
....oh. youre one a them then?
Ah dead on, you know yourself
@@hmtqnikitashakur3399 Yep proud to be one of them. 😄
@@m_d1905 ok. all the best sure
Did the darkness become too dark so they came to America for optimism therapy?
He had an America Chavez shirt early.
if he thinks Americans are cheery, wait till he visits Australia and New Zealand, if he hasn't already...
Nah, Kiwis are way more deadpan than Americans.
And like, we're actually pretty happy and content, but Americans often have to perform a kind of *manic* cheeriness, especially in the service industry. You aren't required to put on a fake smile all the time just because you work at a checkout here?
So yeah, even to Kiwis Americans seem a bit much at times? And eh, Australians can be real loud, but still more comfortable with darker humour than Americans, in general.
No way, Kiwis and Aussies are definitely more like us than Americans are

on da ball tom yUPP...
Woohoo! 🤠
GOOD LUCK !!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tommy your gas
I don't know what part of America he visited but here in California workers throw down and are rarely nice.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I bet it was shit 😂😂😂
"Just get on the bus...your helmet has your name on it."😄
That 'Fundamental Darkness' didn't serve that great Comedic Genius Robin Williams to well..May he R.i.P
The Irish are right about Osteen.
Tommy - do you know your Dad? Like is your Dad in your life and all?
DNA proven?
I knew a man from County Meath and I swear to God !!!
You are the feckin double of him.. 🌿
This guy is very dark. 😉
Does anyone else think the roles have reversed? Americans seem grumpier today and Irish more optimistic. Definietly though 20 yrs ago this was spot on
Americans Happy?? 😂😂😂
🙏🏻❤️☘️💐
The title should be "Irish Pessimism Vs. American Optimism" that would make more sense. Darkness means just being unhappy not having a negative outlook on life.
We are NOT pessimistic.
We are a wee bit cynical, and realistic above all...
this American tour was so weak and lazy :/ I remember hoping for great things when it aired on RTE and being mortified - you're better than this Tommy
Hey Tommy, be careful Whom you mock.
Oh I didnt find him funny at all
The most outgoing and cheerful people I've met are Aussies and Kiwis. In America, it's Minnesotans, maybe upper Wisconsinites, Californians, folks from Colorado. Everybody else has their problems, believe me.
We bottle up our emotions in NZ. I find the English so funny
A lot of these Americans most certainly have forgotten their history, it’s American. Not Irish.
