- ANother free video from New York acting-coach John WIndsor-Cunningham, this time taking a break from serious subjects and telling a funny story about his early career in the UK, in the hope that his next video which is expected to annoy some other acting-coaches, will at least have ahd a few moments of laughetr before it.
I always appreciate these little mistakes because it really keeps me in the moment. I love to hear stories like these because it shows that everyone has those moments, even the great
Great story, and so nice to see you back on! Thanks from Norway.
Great story- beautifully told
Hello John. Haven't seen a post from you in a while. Great to see another video out by you!👍👍👍 Greatings from Orpington, Greater London, England 😎
Because I've been coaching people from London to Hollywood to Tokyo to Sydney! And working as an actor! But when I next have a few hours I promise something more worthwhile. JOhn
@@NewYorkActingCoach Thanks John. I have found your video's on: "How to do an English accent convincingly " extremely helpful and enjoy hearing about your experiences as an actor, as in the video you have just released. I am actually originally from Cape Town, South Africa but have relocated to the United Kingdom.
I'm really glad I've found your channel, I'm 18 and I just started going to college a few months ago and I'm studying film making/acting/theater, and I'm really really nervous.
it's hard to find someone who actually gives advice sincerely these days.
Thank you so much for uploading.
My life is hanging in anticipation for the next video ^_^
😂😂 Love this story!!!
Oh John. Getting blamed by the culprit for things going wrong ... That's my whole life. Lol
Thanks for this story
Sorry to hear that from you. And it sounds trite, - and perhaps silly of me to say, - but finding a way to laugh at it all is the secret to things changing. And it was funny as well ! So hang in there my friend. John Windsor-Cunningham
I'm supposed to be doing a presentation assignment for my college performing arts course, but John's videos are just so much more interesting :')
Great story
Hi, I'm 16 now and what happend to me was that I nearly vomited on the stage cause my character had to drink a lot of white wine (sparkling water) in a short amount of time. I than had to improvise and kind of just blamed the alcohol for everything. That was an awful experience and pretty humiliating.
Its like spring there, always gorgious and influencing
Love the music
Always good to see one of your videos pop up John :)
Great story John, sounds like you threw them a real curve ball. Some of the best things you can get in film are when it goes wrong, makes you think . "I never thought of that" Maybe not the best in stage productions, as you can't just replay it like it happened. But I'm sure the audience got more bang for their buck than they expected that night.
I really enjoy this! made me smile
love this video!
Hi John! Thanks for your videos! I am a 16 year old boy, and my biggest dream is to become an actor and graduate from acting school. I have been in an amateur theatre for like 4-5 years now and i love it. I have watched many documents and films about professional theatre and i just want to be part of that someday! Every time i think of it i feel like my heart is burning. Both, in good and bad ways, i hope you understand what i mean. Yeah i just wanted to tell you how i feel! I appreciate you very much! Thanks!
Thanks for kind remarks. Be careful who you listen to about an acting career as there are sharks about! As and when - and if - you want help or advice about drama courses or auditions or whether to try a career in acting tell your parents they could try a session with me on skype with you, as the business is full of pit-falls. I miss most messages here and am best found through the 'contact ' page on my website (www.Windsor-Cunningham.com) Best wishes anyway, JOhn
You're back!
Lovely and terrifying story. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks very much. Fear I didn't tell the story clearly at all. So God knows what my Lear is going to be like! Ah well. Thanks for kind words. At least my Lear will have comedy in it (My current plan anyway). Best wishes, JOhn (www.Windsor-Cunningham)
@@NewYorkActingCoach It came across clearly for even theatre amateurs such as myself.
Nice to see you!
Loved the video as per usual! Quick question as an actor with a talent for accents how best to get an opportunity to use them? I think a lot of the time they'll just type cast someone with the natural accent of the character.
Your question says so much about you, and I can't reply in a few words. If you want help with this or any aspect of acting I coach on skype and am best contacted not here (as I miss messages here) but on the 'Contact' page on my website www.Windsor-Cunningham.com but the whole subject of accents and casting is much more complicated than that, and I think the best thing is to concentrate on how good your actual acting is . Obviously. Best wishes anyway, John
John Windsor-Cunningham thanks for the reply John! Trying to get better everyday while I'm still studying, hopefully once I can get some work I'll be able to have more formal correspondence with you! Couldn't imagine a better person to learn from.
Welcome back!
Love your videos, John! I Really enjoyed this one. Just a thought -- did this inspire Michael Frayn to write Noises off? Thanks for making me smile and laugh. (But - I AM a bit apprehensive about your next video which you stated won't be so cheerful.)
Thanks for watching. It's true that when I hear of stories like Frayn's my first thought is that I've actually been through this in real life - ! - but thanks for encouragement to get the next harsher video done soon. John (www.Windsor-Cunningham.com and, if you want more madness www.MadEngishman.com but start with video number "7".)
Going to force my entire class to watch all of John's videos
In this video what is the name of the play you are talking about? You mentioned your character wakes up at the start of act 2 and a detective comes to the door which play is it just out of curiousity
I think it was Murder At Quay Cottage, it may have been a terrible play, or quite good and was too young to realize. And I tell the story far too slowly, but thanks for your interest. John.
@@NewYorkActingCoach I just googled it and it doesn't seem to be a very popular play which maybe suggests it was bad, unless it was popular in theatres for a while a long long time ago. I'm surprised the theatre you worked out chose such an unpopular play and not a more known one
Sorry if I'm not clear in the story. I was 16, knew nothing about acting, lied about my age and got a job in a company that performed a different play every WEEK, so audiences didn't expect depth. 25 plays in 6 months to a fully packed theatre! This was a long time ago! I was sixteen, man. I didn't choose the plays, I just learned lines.
You are my favorite
I'm quite sad because I've quit drama, (i'm only 16 right now), and I don't really have any opportunites. I am doing the school play though :) these videos really do help.
I am not sure what you mean. If you want to do drama there are always opportunities. Colleges need young actors for their student film department, amateur theatres need actors, and you can always find a reading-group meeting up every week to read plays. If you want it you can make it happen, but you have to make sure you are good at it because there are so many other people wanting every acting-job. John Windsor-Cunningham
Sir what according to you is the best method or anything like that to evoke emotions?
Pls ans
Experience. Look at the wikipedia notes on every actor you admire, then you will see that they all went to a drama course for years, and studied during those years, day after day, hour after hour, one script after another, until they found a kind of part which SUITS them which they found easy to do, in which the emotions came NATURALLY . If there was a simple answer then even more people would want to be actors. You have to work at it, work hard, give up everything for it, doing plays and student films every week with any little company that will use you,, probably being dull and unreal until you find your SELF in a part. WORK my friend, that's the answer. John Windsor-Cunningham
@@NewYorkActingCoach thank you sir
Good to see you thank you for teaching English
please don't stop making videos
Great video on my UA-cam channel I play characters from movies and I love the advice you give to up incoming actor’s such as my self keep up the great work
Oh my God!!!'
Hey,could you please make a video about improv. (improvise) and about how to think fastly in situations where we need to improv.? Also,i really like your videos:)
Too busy with voice-overs to make a video on that at the moment, but send me an email if you want a summary of the 'rules' as I see them. John
John Windsor-Cunningham thank you,i sent you an email:)
Lovely story.
So, did you like the cursed child?
😂 I saw the book in the background too.
I have a question, can I practice acting when I'm 17? I might go to drama class or maybe during college do I still have time to act and practice? Does age matters about becoming actor? How do i get an agent? Last question if i get the part and I have to places what happens if I don't have enough money to travel do I have to cancel my part?
This is not a good place to ask serious questions, as I miss many here. Best to use the 'Contact' page on my website (www.WindsorCunningham.com) or my direct email (jwcactor@yahoo.com) but I can tell you your age is a huge advantage because directors will not expect you to have done anything yet and may 'cast' you in jobs without your needing to have experience. But how to get agents ad how to be any good is more complicated. And you need to ask your parents about contacting me on my website, in fact ask them to ask questions if you like, as there are bad people around! John
Do you still coach in the New York Film Academy?
I often work with students there privately, when they feel they need extra help with a project, but I do not work for them at all. I also often send people to the Academy for training. But that's my only connection there. John Windsor-Cunningham (not sure were you got the idea I worked for them).
@@NewYorkActingCoach Well some of your videos have "(Acting Coach NYC)" in the title so I just guessed that you worked there
NYC = New York City ( ! )
@@NewYorkActingCoach I just realized it was New York Film Academy not Ney York CITY Film Academy,my bad
good
make more videos please
I want to know how to not laugh or smile when others in the audience laugh or smile
Some questions cannot be answered in a few lines, because they involve working on the truth of whatever you're lines are, and that needs coaching. I'm not saying you have to come to me, but if you want to then don't write here as I often miss messages here, but use the 'Contact Page' on my website (www.Windsor-Cunningham.com) or my direct email (jwcactor@yahoo.com) but only if you are serious about performing. Otherwise you'll be wasting your money as I'll be too detailed for you. JOhn
@@NewYorkActingCoach I already majoring in acting but I would love to learn more I've very much enjoyed your videos
I will check out your websight
Do note that I miss most messages let here, so if you actually need to get in touch please use the 'Contact Page' on the website. Thanks, Best wishes, John
